Indiana sports run on four levels at once. The Colts, Pacers, and Fever carry the pro side out of Indianapolis. The colleges supply the rivalries: Indiana in Bloomington, Purdue in West Lafayette, Notre Dame in South Bend, plus Butler and Ball State. Motorsports takes a month of its own every May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. And Indiana high school football and IHSAA basketball still fill bleachers and gyms on a Friday night.

How does the IHSAA state tournament work?

Most IHSAA team sports run the same ladder: sectional, then regional, then semi-state, then the state finals. Sectional week is the round fans travel for, and the finals move between host venues. IHSAA volleyball moved its finals to Gainbridge Fieldhouse in 2025.
