On the latest edition of the Sideline Sports Show with Brice & DC, the guys broke down the best matchup of the week, the most surprising results and the players who stood out across the region.
And when it came to the weekly picks, DC had himself a perfect week.
The marquee matchup in the SAC featured Carroll and Bishop Dwenger, and it looked like the Saints might pull off an early-season statement. Dwenger jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, but Carroll eventually found its rhythm and pulled away for a 49-29 victory. Gabe Frisinger turned in one of the most impressive performances of the week, accounting for six total touchdowns — four rushing and two passing — while piling up 357 total yards.
Northrop also picked up a big win over Homestead, beating the Spartans 28-16 in a game that featured plenty of chaos. The two teams combined for 23 penalties for 224 yards and seven turnovers. Jaydin Haller came up with two interceptions for Northrop.
East Noble rallied past DeKalb 14-10 in one of the more dramatic finishes of the week. DeKalb led 10-0 at halftime, but the Knights battled back after DeKalb quarterback Bracen Staley exited the game with an injury in the second quarter. With DeKalb driving late, Alex Scott came up with a massive play, intercepting a pass on fourth-and-six with two minutes remaining to seal the East Noble victory. Xavier Vice carried the ball 27 times for 74 yards and a touchdown for DeKalb.
Elsewhere in the NE8, Columbia City edged Huntington North 34-31.
South Adams defeated Heritage 21-13, with quarterback Zaden Baumer putting together an impressive passing performance, completing 29 of 50 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns. Jax Wanner was his favorite target, hauling in 15 catches for 179 yards.
Eastside put together one of the most dominant halves of football in the region, scoring touchdowns on all six of its offensive possessions in the first half against Fremont. Job Richman carried the ball 10 times for 173 yards and two touchdowns, while Noah Dove added 81 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries. Fremont's Jaret Laughlin broke loose for a 60-yard touchdown run.
In college football, Notre Dame and Indiana both continued to roll, while Purdue suffered a heartbreaking loss to Wake Forest in double overtime. DC was also at Ball State to watch the Cardinals pick up a win over Stony Brook.
Locally, Saint Francis dropped its home opener to Marian 30-6, while Trine fell to Illinois Wesleyan.
The NFL season is officially underway, and the Colts opened the season as 3.5-point home underdogs against Baltimore. The guys break down what to expect from Indianapolis heading into Week 1 and whether the Colts can turn the opening-week odds in their favor.
