Sectional semifinal night gave Indiana high school football 96 final scores, a 48-45 thriller between Carmel and Westfield, nine top-10 teams knocked out and 20 teams still perfect. Sectional championships are this Friday, Nov. 6, and on the newest Get IN. Sports episode, Dom Miranda and Nate Spangle went back through their brackets class by class and circled the title games they want to see.

It runs an hour and 44 minutes, so this page is the short version: every score checked against our scoreboard, every title game with its kickoff and bracket, and where Dom and Nate's picks stand.
Rankings on this page are from the IFCA coaches poll released after Week 9, the same poll on our rankings page. Dom and Nate sometimes quote other polls on air, so a number you hear on the show can differ. Records run through Oct. 30. Kickoffs and sites come from IHSAA's bracket pages, so check with the host school before you drive. Missed the start of the tournament? Go back to our sectional preview.

Carmel 48, Westfield 45
Nate watched from the Westfield side and called it one of the best high school football games he has ever seen. No. 10 Carmel went to No. 3 Westfield with four losses this season: by 4 to Westfield, 2 to Center Grove, 7 to Lawrence North and 14 to Warren Central.
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | Final | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carmel | 14 | 0 | 15 | 19 | 48 |
| Westfield | 7 | 16 | 0 | 22 | 45 |
Westfield led 23-14 at halftime after a field goal at the horn. Carmel then scored 34 in the second half, and a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter made it 35-23. Westfield got back to 35-30 on a long touchdown pass, Chris Harris answered with an 80-yard catch for Carmel, and Carmel led 48-37 after recovering an onside kick and scoring again. Its students left the stands and lined up along the fence.
Westfield went the length of the field in about 40 seconds, scored, converted the two-point try to make it 48-45 with 1:02 left, then recovered a perfect onside kick. It drove into field goal range for a kick in the low 30s to force overtime. Carmel coach Kevin Wright called timeout before the kick, and Carmel blocked the kick up the middle.
Nate also flagged a call from earlier in the game: a Carmel quarterback kept on a read option and was gone up the sideline, but the officials had followed the fake and blew the play dead with the running back tackled. Carmel kept the ball at the whistle and went three-and-out.
These two keep trading. Westfield won this season's first meeting 38-34, and last year Carmel won 34-10 in the regular season before Westfield took the sectional game 23-20. Carmel hosts Hamilton Southeastern on Friday in Sectional 3. Both hosts picked Carmel in this game.
The other results that mattered
Castle 30, Floyd Central 29. No. 10 Castle beat No. 5 Floyd Central with a junior quarterback's two-point run with 14.1 seconds left, after Floyd Central had gone up 29-22. One host's bracket had Floyd Central reaching semi-state.
Northridge 28, South Bend St. Joseph 27. St. Joseph scored with 1:19 left and went for two and the lead. The runner was ruled short at the goal line, and the hosts watched the replay and thought it looked like he got in. Northridge stays 11-0, with wins this season of one, three, seven and one point.
Muncie Central 28, Yorktown 27. Yorktown lined up a field goal with seven seconds left and hit the upright. Yorktown won their regular-season game 24-7, and Muncie Central had lost 10 straight in the series.
Evansville Memorial 63, Gibson Southern 28. It was 28-28 at halftime. Memorial won the second half 35-0, and the hosts counted four interceptions and a scoop and score after the break. They now call coach John Hurley the halftime wizard, and they think this may be the team to beat in Class 3A.
West Lafayette 54, Maconaquah 26. West Lafayette came in 3-7 and handed No. 10 Maconaquah its first loss. West Lafayette's early losses came by 3, 3, 1 and 1 points, and Maconaquah's closest game before this was a 44-42 win over Lewis Cass. The hosts have made schedule strength their theme of the postseason, and this game is their best evidence.
Heritage Hills 42, Evansville Reitz 26. Heritage Hills (9-2) has won five straight and knocked out No. 8 Reitz. As read on the show, its two losses came by a combined eight points: one to Owensboro Apollo in Kentucky, one to Gibson Southern. The hosts want to know how the coaches left the Patriots out of their top 10.
Knightstown 22, Wes-Del 14. Wes-Del came in 8-0 and ranked No. 9 in Class 1A. Knightstown has now won six in a row under Trent Taylor, and it beat Friday's opponent, Tri, 49-0 on Oct. 2.
Heritage 20, Adams Central 17, OT. Heritage had lost 12 straight to Adams Central, including 14-7 earlier this season.
Bluffton 54, Norwell 14. Bluffton had lost 20 straight to Norwell. The last meeting before this was a 75-0 Norwell win in 2006. Bluffton is 11-0 and ranked No. 6 in Class 3A.
Franklin Central 41, Decatur Central 23. Decatur Central had won eight straight. Both hosts had it advancing, and Franklin Central gets No. 2 Warren Central next.
New Palestine 53, Pendleton Heights 35. No. 2 New Palestine led by 28 before Pendleton Heights cut it to 10 and tried an onside kick. As read on the show, New Palestine's quarterback threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns, and its lead back ran for 216 yards and four touchdowns.
Hammond Morton 27, Lowell 7. Nate called this one three weeks ago. Hammond Morton now gets Hobart, which it beat 41-0 on Oct. 9.
Also worth knowing: Linton came in 2-8 and beat Tell City 54-37. Fremont beat Northfield 32-26 on a touchdown catch with three seconds left. Evansville Harrison beat Bedford North Lawrence 58-26.
Regular-season results keep flipping
Dom and Nate keep coming back to one idea: how many points in a regular-season result are small enough to flip in the tournament. They call it the margin of flip, and the numbers back them up. Through two rounds, our database has 72 tournament games that were rematches from the regular season, and 12 of them changed winners.
The biggest swing belongs to Lewis Cass, which lost 19-0 to Peru on Sept. 4 and won the rematch 64-42. Muncie Central lost to Yorktown by 17 and won by one. Ben Davis lost to Avon by 10 and won by 22. Homestead lost to Fort Wayne Northrop by 12 and won by 12. Eighteen of Friday's 48 title games are rematches too, and the last column of each table below shows how the first one went.
Title games Dom and Nate circled
- New Palestine vs. Cathedral (5A Sectional 13): No. 2 against No. 1, both 7-3, and their game of the week. IHSAA lists it at Arsenal Tech. One host thinks the winner is all but certain to reach the state final.
- Fort Wayne Dwenger at East Noble (4A Sectional 19): No. 1 at unbeaten No. 3. Dwenger's only loss was 49-29 to Carroll (Fort Wayne), and it beat DeKalb 43-13 on Oct. 30. East Noble beat Columbia City 53-17.
- Danville at Chatard (4A Sectional 21): unbeaten No. 6 at No. 2. Both hosts have Chatard winning Class 4A in their brackets, and one of them took Danville on air anyway. Chatard beat Northview 38-31 on Oct. 30; South Putnam beat Northview 45-7.
- Indianapolis Lutheran at Eastern Hancock (2A Sectional 37): No. 3 against No. 5, and the only title game between two unbeaten teams. IHSAA lists it at Eastern Hancock.
- Hagerstown at Lapel (2A Sectional 36): 11-0 against 10-1, and it splits the hosts. One has Lapel going to the state finals and predicted 35-17. The other has Hagerstown and predicted 26-22. Hagerstown beat Knightstown 34-14; Lapel's only loss was 39-27 to Eastern Hancock, which beat Knightstown 48-12.
- Heritage at Bluffton (3A Sectional 27): Bluffton won 16-0 on Oct. 2. Both teams just ended long losing streaks in their series.
- Hamilton Heights at West Lafayette (3A Sectional 28): Hamilton Heights has won eight straight after an 0-3 start and won the first meeting 38-0 on Oct. 16.
- Lawrenceburg at Batesville (3A Sectional 30): Dom's first circled game of the season. Lawrenceburg won 35-20 at Batesville on Sept. 25, and Batesville hasn't lost since.
- Evansville Memorial at Evansville Mater Dei (3A Sectional 32): No. 1 at No. 7. Memorial won the first one 52-21.
- Fort Wayne Snider at Warsaw (5A Sectional 11): Warsaw won 33-30 in Week 1.
- Evansville North at Castle (5A Sectional 16): Castle won 29-26 in Week 1.
- Caston at Pioneer (1A Sectional 43): Pioneer won 35-7 on Sept. 11. Caston has won six of seven since.

| 8 | Columbus North (5-5) at No. 5 Center Grove (8-2) | 7 p.m. ET | None this season |
Dom and Nate called 6A mostly chalk, with Franklin Central and Homestead the misses. Crown Point beat Merrillville for the second time this season, 43-33, and the hosts see it on a collision course with Penn. One host still has Carmel in the state final. The other moved Penn there when sectionals opened. Dom was at Brownsburg's 48-10 win over Zionsville and says it still looks unbelievable, then crossed town for Lawrence North's 17-13 win over Lawrence Central, decided by a 62-yard touchdown pass. Full bracket: Class 6A bracket.

| 23 | No. 5 East Central (9-2) at Columbus East (7-4) | 7 p.m. ET | None this season |
| 24 | Evansville Harrison (5-6) at Heritage Hills (9-2) | 7 p.m. CT | None this season |
The show's take: this is separation week for a loaded class. Reitz and St. Joseph are already out. Dom gave a rare score prediction for Mooresville at Roncalli, 31-17 Roncalli. One host sees Mooresville as sneaky, since all of its losses came to bigger schools: Plainfield 27-14, Bloomington North 37-18, Decatur Central 37-21 and Whiteland 24-21. Full bracket: Class 4A bracket.

| 32 | No. 1 Evansville Memorial (11-0) at No. 7 Evansville Mater Dei (9-2) | 6:30 p.m. CT | Evansville Memorial 52-21, Sept. 11 |
The red pen came out here. Griffith lost its first-round game to Andrean, and West Lafayette's run wrecked more brackets. Andrean, last year's 2A champion, gets Twin Lakes. West Noble beat Angola 14-7 on Oct. 9, and Indian Creek shut out Vincennes Lincoln 29-0. Full bracket: Class 3A bracket.

| 40 | Linton (3-8) at No. 9 North Posey (10-1) | Time TBA (IHSAA lists 7:30 p.m. CT, so check with North Posey) | None this season |
Nate quizzed Dom on the top 10 of the Sagarin ratings across all classes, and South Putnam is the only team in it outside 6A, at No. 8. South Putnam is 11-0 and has outscored opponents by nearly 50 a game. Monrovia beat North Putnam and gets South Putnam next, which had Dom asking whether Monrovia can sweep Putnam County. One host took Lewis Cass and coach Clayton Mannering over Oak Hill, and noted Mannering has not won a sectional title in his seven seasons. North Posey's only loss was to Heritage Hills. Full bracket: Class 2A bracket.

| 48 | Forest Park (6-5) at No. 3 North Daviess (11-0) | 7 p.m. ET | None this season |
West Central lost its opener at Winamac 34-20 and has won 10 straight. North Judson beat Winamac twice, 35-0 and 48-20, and hosts Friday. Riverton Parke and Cloverdale share an opponent in North Central (Farmersburg): Riverton Parke won 42-7, Cloverdale 40-27. One host expects Riverton Parke by 7 to 14. Full bracket: Class 1A bracket.
