The Colts made it official Thursday. Jonathan Taylor signed a two-year, $44 million extension that keeps him in Indianapolis through the 2028 season.
The deal includes $39 million fully guaranteed and maxes out at $47 million, per The Athletic and CBS Sports. That $39 million edges Robinson for the most ever fully guaranteed in a running back deal, according to Over the Cap, setting aside rookie-scale contracts. Robinson’s extension still carries more in total guarantees, at $51 million.
At $22 million per year, Taylor is now the second-highest-paid back in football. Only Atlanta’s Bijan Robinson makes more, at $22.25 million, on the extension he agreed to two days earlier.

But he deserves this for what he means to the Colts and this offense in what is a consequential season for the franchise. Editor’s note: Robinson’s extension averages $22.25 million per year on its $66.75 million base and can reach $25 million per year if he hits every escalator.
Taylor is 27 and coming off his best season since 2021. He appeared in every game last year, ran for 1,585 yards, and led the league with 20 total touchdowns, 18 on the ground and two through the air. That ties Lenny Moore’s single-season Colts record, and Taylor is the only player in franchise history to reach 20 twice.
He already owns the Colts record for rushing touchdowns with 69. The rushing yards record is the one still open. Taylor sits at 7,598 for his career. James finished with 9,226.
His career average of 90.5 rushing yards per game leads all active players and ranks fifth all time, behind Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis and Eric Dickerson.
