Growing up in Middlebury, one thing I always looked forward to was a summer stop at Mooey's for a scoop of ice cream. It is a hometown favorite, an Amish-owned shop that keeps things simple and does them well.

Mooey's is the kind of place locals hit after a ballgame and cyclists roll up to mid-ride. You will find hand-dipped ice cream, soft serve, and specialty sundaes, plus the classics: milkshakes, banana splits, and floats.

A Sweet Stop Along the Pumpkinvine Trail
The best part might be the location, right along the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail around mile marker 6. It sits a little off the road, set back down a driveway, so keep an eye out as you ride. Cyclists, walkers, and families use it as a place to rest and refuel, and there is outdoor seating for a scoop after a ride through the countryside. You will find it at 14408 County Road 20.

When to Go
Like many small-town ice cream shops, Mooey's runs seasonally, open in the warmer months and closed for winter. Typical hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., closed Sunday, but a seasonal shop's hours move around, so follow Mooey's on Facebook for the latest.
