Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum

Tucked away in the wooded hills of Solsberry, Indiana, the Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum is a hidden gem where art and nature exist in perfect harmony.

Art in the Wild

Spanning nearly 50 acres of rolling terrain, this unique museum features over 180 large-scale sculptures installed along approximately three miles of hiking trails. It's a one-of-a-kind destination for art lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone craving a peaceful, creative escape. The museum was founded in 2002 with a vision to create a space where contemporary sculpture could thrive in a natural setting. Today, it hosts artists from around the world who come to create and exhibit their work in this open-air gallery. Sculptures range from abstract and industrial to whimsical and contemplative, each one thoughtfully placed to complement the surrounding landscape. As you wander the trails, you'll find art emerging from the forest, nestled into clearings, or standing proudly along ridgelines.

An Interactive Experience

One of the most engaging aspects of the Sculpture Trails experience is its interactivity. Throughout the year, the museum hosts a variety of workshops and events, including the popular Aluminum Pour in the fall. During this hands-on event, visitors can create their own relief sculptures from scratch and watch them cast in molten metal—a rare and unforgettable opportunity. The trail is a different experience with the changing seasons. Enjoy each sculpture with a beautiful snowy backdrop or surrounded by the striking colors of fall.

Plan a Visit

The museum is open daily, with summer hours from 9 AM to 8 PM and winter hours from 9 AM to 5 PM. Admission is free, though donations are encouraged to support the nonprofit's mission. The trails are well-marked and benches are available throughout, making it an accessible outing for most visitors. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water—it’s a real hike. For those wanting to make a day of it, nearby attractions include the historic Tulip Trestle—one of the longest railroad viaducts in the country—and the Yoho General Store, a local favorite for snacks and small-town charm.

Whether you're seeking inspiration, solitude, or just something different, the Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum delivers a refreshing fusion of creativity and the great outdoors. It’s a place where every visit feels like a new discovery, and every sculpture tells a story shaped by nature itself.
