We're going to be covering everything in the Hooser State, high school, college, pro, in the sports capital of the universe in the greatest state on planet Earth.
Thanks so much for coming on this journey with us. Let's get into it. Hey everybody, how you doing? Don Miranda here. Get in sports, the Get Indiana podcast network. Joined as always every single Tuesday by Mr.
Nate Spangle. How you doing buddy? Dude, so good. It was a phenomenal Oh, weekend. My goodness. It was so good.
I knew I thought we knew it would be good, but it was really good. Uh, I had like 10 windows open with Yeah, you're wild for that. I love that. All every video I had a radio a radio broadcast. What were what were your games though? Do you remember?
But you you had Southput Cascade. I had Southput Cascade and it was it was runaway train, get off the tracks cuz somebody was coming through and his name was Ty Bettton. That game uh I quickly then was swiping uh I had like 10 tabs between that and then Heritage Hills and Jasper. Great game. Came down to the wire. I had on the radio stream I believe it was the Tecumpsa game.
That was a good one, too. But I think I only could have that one on radio. Had Memorial. Uh, I had Oh, I tuned in for Northridge Mishawaka. Good one. I mean, I was like all over the state and I had literally 10 to IHSA TV was going crazy.
Okay, here's a great question. Since you saw different parts of the state, who had the best like production quality? Not Not shaming any others. I just want to know cuz there it really does differ different ones. I mean, I thought that the the was but was ISC who did Cascade South Putt? Yes, that one was pretty good.
They were really good. Um, that didn't seem like a student news production. No. No, but some of them are student news. Yes. I was just like I uh honestly the best game I felt like I was tuning into was Heritage Hills and uh Jasper.
Who carried that one? Do you know? It was on HSA Champions Network. Okay. Well, I didn't know if they like sourced it out. They just like or the it I think it was just like someone in the press box with a camera and I like it.
I had no sound. Uh we were in the middle of a ravenous game of uh I was on a vacation with um my significant other's family, her family, and we were playing Monopoly and I was in Vermont in Vermont. We were all over the place watching Indiana High School football. I mean, I just said, "Hey, no, you guys can put whatever you want on the big TV. I'll just have this up in the background for the love of the game." Dude, could not miss it.
Dom, I'm really excited to get into all things Indian High School football. It was an unbelievable slate spangle, dude. You talked about all the games you were watching. I mean, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Okay, there was overtime. There's all this stuff.
We got Bud Wright getting a dub. Okay, we had all things you could ever ask for. Just one 6A matchup, just one 5A matchup. 1A through 4A absolutely delivered. Mr. Spangle, I would like you to talk to me about some headlines.
Uh, dam. So, two, you mentioned it, two overtime games. Uh, I believe that was Ritter and Covenant Christian. Y and Bud Wright, Southwood over Blackhawk. Uh, 3428 and OT. That's awesome.
Budright getting it done. The widest margin of victory. Nightstown over Union City. 84 nothing. How about 84 points to get your sectional play underway? Hello.
There are still Dom still 22 unbeaten teams. That's insane. That's wild. Holy there. There's only a maximum of four now. Actually, three.
Uh Dom, I do want to say uh people need to get their IHSA pickums in. You can redo your brackets. Yeah, you can go back and do them. Dom and I actually have our full brackets here and I can't wait to go through them. So much fun. But if you go to IHSA pickum pic.
live live. You can make brackets. There's a leaderboard. The whole thing. It's really cool. It's fun.
It's like March Madness. Shout out to uh the crew that put it together. It's awesome. Linked in the show notes, but it's all for fun. Um they're hoping to like do this every year. They should.
I think I'm I think Dom I'm like third in the thing. You did very I actually went and handmarked both Spangle and Ice brackets and I was very impressed with Mr. Spangle's first round. All right. It's like getting through the first weekend of March Madness unscathed. Like if you're feeling like you you you might be a sharp or something.
I mean, everyone's bracket is busted. There are no perfect brackets left. But like uh I think by leaderboard somebody has 208 points. Two guys. So Daniel and Derek both have uh 208 points and I'm in third place currently with 206 points. And I mean I think there are 73 entrance.
So hey, that's awesome. That's really That's really cool. Spang, I did want to mention we talked about Bud Wright. That was win number career win number 467. I think my dude's going for 500. Got to be.
He's got to be, dude. He's a legend. Absolutely. How about that win over Fort Wayne Blackhawk? That's good stuff. Mhm.
All right, Dom, we got to talk off the jump. I need to know about the scores that stuck out to you, buddy. I thought you would never ask. Bang. Scores that stuck out to me. There are a lot.
Buckle up. We need to start with WTHR's game of the week. The game that had the sound on for Mr. Spangle on ISC Sports Network. 2A second ranked unbeaten South Putham. Rolling past seventh ranked Cascade 56-33.
I finally got eyes on South Putt. Finally got eyes on them. They exceeded my wildest expectations. Before the game, guess who walked up to me? Ken Marary Shields. Ty Benton's grandmother.
Oh yes. and she said, "I am just so pumped that you guys on the pod are giving Tai's love." And like it's just cuz they are in such a bad spot geographically. They are right in the middle of Teroot's coverage area and Indianapolis coverage area. So they don't get the shine. They deserve South Putt, but they walked into Cascade.
3,000 plus on hand. There were people lined up at 3:45 for this game. No way. And they were lining up the the fence. The entrance for Cascade was awesome. They were pumped up.
And Cascade kept it within a stones throw for a bit of this game. They got punched in the mouth early, but then South Putinham was just too big, too fast, too strong, too good. Ty Benton had seven total touchdowns, six on the ground, one through the air. Hopefully we can patch in uh my highlights from Friday cuz I got three of his touchdowns. The first was the first offensive play of the game. 65 yards.
See you later. Pylon dive touchdown. I saw that, dude. He's pretty. And I saw Kean Mauy Shields, dude. He's the He's a dude, dude.
He's a big big boy. He's scary. Yeah, he's everywhere on the field, too. So, South putt, I mean, we've been talking you up the whole year. You are for real. That was a battle of defending 3A and 1A state champs in the same sectional.
First game of sectional. Had to give that game its love. South putt rolls 56 to 33. This one I found. Oh, go ahead. I I just I need to just like put an exclamation point on that.
That is the returning state champion getting beat by how much? 23 points. That's a returning state champion beating returning state champion by 20 plus points. That was a two class separation versus a three. Like unbelievable. Incredible.
Cascade had a great season as well. Yeah, absolutely. Not like No, that's no shame. No, that's just like an unfortunate part of like that should have been sectional finals, maybe a regional finals. Like what happens if South putts in 3A? Maybe we ask that question later.
We'll ask that question later. But I'm just saying South Putts for real. This one stuck out to me because I I didn't expect it to be this close to be honest with you because uh Chitaard beat Garen Central or excuse me, Chitaard beat Garen Catholic pretty handily in the regular season. Spang. In fact, as it loads here, it was um 42 to7. Chitaard beat Garen Catholic in the regular season.
They get by him 21-2 here in the sectional opener. So Garren Catholic I thought showed some metal here. No doubt about it. 212 Shitaard gets it done. They've been battling injuries. Awesome to see Danny Adams back on the field making plays.
So big win for Jacks City athlete of the year I believe. Is that right? Yeah. The Gry Brothers studs like they've been battling so many injuries. So keep an eye on Chitaard but like they adversity has struck the uh the old Yeah. Jack was named 2026 City Athlete of the Year.
That's awesome. Uh so so welld deserved. I mean, he absolutely balled out. Then there was another rematch in class 4A. 4A is a class we're both very excited about in this state tournament. Northridge, the sixth ranked greatest in class 4A.
They only beat Michigan by three in the regular season. They win 5726 in the opening round of sectional setting up for what is going to be a monster matchup next week or this week I guess with Southbend St. Joe. We knew it was coming and it has come. I cannot believe that. I mean I can believe it but like to turn a three-point victory into an absolute smackdown.
Incredible. 31 by 31 point like they they back-to-back weeks Northridge has beaten Warsaw and Mishawaka they're riding a highridge at the right time or are they peing too early Dom I think they're peeking at the exact right time Northridge is the truth okay class 3A we were excited about this one too in the region second ranked Andrean up from 2A remember defending 2A state champs beats 3A six ranked and previously unbeaten Griffith 38-20 That's Andrean's ninth straight win. And Chris Skinner, head coach, a 100th win at the school in his 11th year. Dylan Gore had 309 yards in that win. Um, not sure if that was throwing or running, but someone messaged me, said he had 309 yards. Oh, well, hey, we love that.
I don't care what it is. That's impressive. I got to talk about a big one. Talk to me. Number 10, Casten gets it done 23-22 over the Argyles of Madison Grant. I've been following the Casten Athletics page.
Holy smokes, dude. Okay, so 18yd touchdown by Madison Grant. They took the lead with a two-point conversion. They were up 2217 with 9 minutes and 27 seconds. Then Tucker Woliver, Tucker Wolver takes it in to give the Comets the lead. It was an awesome, awesome final touchdown.
I got a message from uh Chris Olic. Thank you, sir, for uh reaching out. Tucker Woliver with the go-ahead touchdown last Friday against Madison Grant. And it's got the sideline going nuts. Yeah, buddy. I had that one in there.
This is a special I got tagged awesome in uh in uh the student section, casting student sections uh post. They like tagged Nate Spangle and it was sick. I was pumped up for the casting comments, baby. We love Casten. That's a big win over Madison Brown. Yeah, dude.
A little 10 verse N in the first round of sectionals. I know. That's what I'm talking about. I do believe that this is a team of destiny for Casten this year. It is. I mean, potentially the best team in school history.
And they've their two losses. Oh, Chris Oler's the head coach. I didn't know he was the head coach. Chris Olrich's the head coach. He's messaging us, dude. Chris, thank you, sir.
Coach, congrats to you, coach. Thank you very much. That was very kind of you. Uh, I did not know. He's got to show his head coach. What a guy, dude.
He's got to show his boys some love. I'm I'm over here like just a fan. Oh, this is the HC right here. Their only two losses are to Pioneer and North Judson. Arguably the best two teams in class 1A. Okay.
Okay. And the North Judson loss was only by seven. Casting team of destiny. Dude, what we've learned, you can flip these results. 2322. It is not always the bigger dog that wins it.
What do they say, Dom? It's not about the size of the dog in the fight. It's about the size of the fight in the dog. Casting has some fight. I'm happy you mentioned casting. They were on my list, but too far down the list, some might say.
Uh, so good stuff right there for the casting comments. What else do you got, Dom? Okay, the one you mentioned, Heritage Hills, dude. 4A 11th ranked Heritage Hills beating Jasper. You might be like, "Oh, ranked unranked shouldn't be close." No, it was a very good game.
214 Heritage Hills gets it done. Okay, listen to this. I I want to talk about Heritage Hills a little bit. Their only losses this year are to Owensboro Apollo out of Kentucky and Gibson Southern. We know how good Gibson Southern is. Both teams both loses by a combined eight points.
It's their fourth straight win. They're 8-2. first year head coach Kevin Temple setting up for a massive matchup against Evansville writes on Friday. Dude, that's a big game. Her again 4A is ridiculous, folks. Here's the thing, man.
I was watching I was locked in on the Jasper Heritage Hills game. What do you think? What do you think? Uh, one I kind of thought Heritage Hills was going to put it away early and they just they couldn't quite close the door. Jasper just kept hanging around and at the end it's I believe was the final score 2114. Yes, dude.
Just no knockout punch, but still got it done, dude. But Jasper, I felt my heart my heart goes out to to Coach Hart. My heart goes out to Coach Hart and his boys. They were driving, man. They looked so good. They had an offensive drive going.
They got inside the 20 and they coughed it up. And it was it like that was the equalizer. That would have been the uh and maybe they go for two and just try to end it there. I don't know. But they put the ball on the carpet and Heritage Hills recovers. And it it's such a it's such a conundrum when you see it at the end when you see there's like no time left.
I mean there's like maybe a couple minutes like two minutes left. They were able to get a first down and you know whatever and you see one side so elated and so happy and the other side so dejected. It was just like it just takes you right back to you know you're learning life lessons out there. Win, lose, draws and soccer the whole thing. Like it was uh it was a wild game that had me locked in. I love that.
That's a great recap. And you know what? There's going to be adversity in life. Spang. And what happens when you have adversity? You got to do like what the Cardinal Ritter Raiders did as they won in overtime versus Covenant Christian 221.
Cardinal Cardinal Ritter five and five. How about that? Covenant Christian 7 and three. On paper. See, this is David vers Goliath. Doesn't matter the records, folks.
Exhibit A, 3A, sectional 28. Who are we talking about in our big episode? Do you remember the one team that were like sleeper team? Could be a sleeper team. You picked them. I'm almost positive.
Class 3A. I know we talked about Hold on, hold on, hold on. Let me Who's our sleeper team? My sleeper team. Dude, this team, they're hot. They're hot right now.
Started the season slow, but they're hot. Took down a team that on paper should have won. M Kyle Nenrip said they he was they were his sleeper team as well to help you out. Uh in 3A y aqua. No, they're not sleeper. Come on.
Uh how about the Huskies? Hamilton Heights. Hamilton Heights takes down Mississippi 4740. Mississippi was previously 7-1. Hamilton Heights has now won seven in a row. Yes.
After starting 0 and3 in Caleb Small's first season at the helm. Now, this game, this game goes strictly down to strength of schedule. Well, I mean, it was a great game, 4740. You know what I mean? Dude, we knew it was going to be, but I'm saying the records did not tell the full tale there. Uh, Hamilton Heights had some tough losses, but I feel like they had tough losses to great teams.
Yes, we have mentioned this, Spang. They lost to Lapel, who's one of the better teams in 2A. They lost to London out of Ohio 37 nothing and they lost to Loganport. We know how good the berries are. Since then, seven straight including a win over Mrs. Sinawa 4740.
I had Mrs. Cinoa in the sectional final. I won't lie to you. I absolutely did. Oh wow. You did.
I had Mccanqua and Mrs. Sinawa because it was awesome name match up. Yeah, great name matchup. But hey, Hamilton Heights, you know who had you know who had the Huskys? You That's what I said. You had the Huskies, baby.
This is Caleb Small's third team in three years. He was at Northwestern in 2024. They went 9-2. He was at Cooko last year. They went 4-7. Now he's at Hamilton Heights.
7 and3 sectional semi-final. They have Western this week. So, I got to give a huge shout out to Hamilton Heights. Fantastic work. Awesome win. Okay, Spang's going to like this one.
3A sectional 26. Another Spang special. He picked this one as well. Gymtown takes down previously 8-1 Tippy Valley 15-4. Tippy Valley won the first matchup 17-5. And now Jimtown's going to take on 9 and1 West Noble this week.
But the Jimmies, we even we we gave this matchup some shine. I remember. And we're like, ah, but the Jimmies the Jimmies could get it done, dude. And they get it done. They get it done. That was a two-point loss they avenged from earlier in the season.
They know how to play football up there in Northern Indiana, man. Oh, absolutely. Great matchup. I actually I did not. I did. I did have Tippy Valley.
Oh, you did? I did have Tippy Valley. I was giving you credit. I'll be truthful. Iude about it, though. We did talk about it and said it's a coin toss for us.
A two-point regular season victory. But honestly, dude, I won't lie. I was pretty nails in the bracket. I was very impre the Hamilton. It was the Hamilton Heights and Columbus East two that I impressed me the most. Uh we had one huge win that we also need to mention on here that both of us had wrong and honestly it was a sectional champion for me that that got bounced.
Okay, this is uh the Blue Devils of Tipton take down Eastern Green Town. That was a huge win. No doubt about it, Spang. You're absolutely right. Tipton takes down Eastern Green Town 35-28. Eastern Green Town was ranked seventh in class 2A.
And I'm not going to lie to you, Spang. I think they were unbeaten. They were unbeaten, buddy. That's their first loss of the season. Huge win for Typton. Again, the tail of the tape is in the strength of schedule.
Typton's six and four with that win. So again, dude, their four losses. I think one was to LCC. The other three, no, they beat LCC. Well, they beat LCC. They lost to Hamilton Heights, lost to Loganport, lost to Twin Lakes, lost to West Lafayette.
All bigger. Yes. All bigger schools. all having pretty good seasons there. Uh that is a heck of a win for the Typton Blue Devils and I I feel like they might just happen to find themselves out into a uh into a regional matchup. They got Lewis Cass.
Now under who? Coach Clayton Manoring. How have we not mentioned Clayton Manoring all season? This is this is a travesty. No, we have to say Coach Manoring out of Louis. He might be the reason that Dom and I are currently sitting on this podcast.
Oh, he 1,000% recruited me. He also came to try. He brought us both to uh to Depal back in the day. He took over for his dad 7 years ago, I believe. So, yes. Or was there someone in between or There might have been someone in between.
You check it. Check it out. I don't know. Oh, you see? Oh, recent seasons. Recent recent seasons.
Check it out. See, that's a great tab. Clayton. Yes. Okay. So, there was an inbetweener.
His name was Jeff Phillips. How long was he there for? He was there for just one, two, three, four years. And then what was the coach before? Oh, that was his dad. Uh Scott Mannering.
Scott Manoring. Who was there for He was there for a long I mean 20 I go back to 1994 is the longest back it goes. Yeah. And he was there. And he was there. So Clayton Mannering, Lewis Cat.
I am so I don't know why I'm calling him Clayton by the way. Coach Manner, baby. Uh the Kings of Lewis Cass. They might be frisky D. You got three straight wins, all having scored over 60 points in those three games. I mean, what kind of offense are we running there, guys?
I don't know. But how about Okay, this is interesting. So, Tipton and Cass, man, that's that's going to be one to watch. That's going to be one to watch. Okay, that I can't believe that. Just Sarend.
Shout out to Coach Johnson who actually commented on uh my poach or my coach. So, Coach Johnson. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I'm familiar. Yeah.
Yeah. Colin Johnson, legendary coach. He comments something saying, "You better not have forgot Lewis Cash and your boy uh Coach Manory." I did until today. So, how about that? That's awesome.
That's going to be a fun matchup. Tip. Okay, I want to talk about a couple more 1A games and then we can move on. North Davies takes down Tecumpsa. That was a top 10 matchup in class 1A 3528. Jason Jones had five rushing TDs for North Davies.
Clinton Prairie beats Carol. This might have been one of maybe the biggest upset. Oh, okay. Sorry. I thought you were going to say another unbeaten. They weren't unbeaten, but this might have been my biggest one of my biggest upsets.
This or Eastern. Uh, that was a huge huge win for Clinton Prairie. The uh Can you name that mascot? Similar to where they row the boat. Gophers. The Gophers of Clinton Prairie.
They uh they get the job done 28-2. And that was doubt. That was a if I believe for me. Did you pick that? No shot. No, no, no.
I think I might have picked them. Oh, I had them win sectional. I had a sectional runner up. I had a se them a sectional runner up and you hate to see that. Uh we are going to go through our brackets here in a second, but that was a that was a great great win for and just like a great slate of interesting scores in my opinion. So that try getting that to three and a half minutes.
Brandon, did you get uh did you talk about Evansville Harrison? I did not. The Warriors of Evansville Harrison. They take down Booneville. So Harrison had been four and six on the season. Boonville was six and four on the season.
That was a big win. I think that a lot of people would have circled uh not Harrison. I I would have I think I did pick Booneville. I think a lot of people would have picked Booneville. They were the conference runner up. They played Gibson Southern tight until maybe like the middle of the third, late fourth or middle of the third somewhere in the fourth quarter.
Evansville Harrison did. No. Uh Booneville did. Uh Gibson ended up running away with that game, but like they were in it. It was competitive. So I kind of like had I was riding high on Booneville.
Sure. And Harrison gets it done. Big win for them. Okay, nice call, Spang. That's awesome. Okay, that rounds out the scores that stuck out to us.
Uh great segment, Spang. Do you want to just roll through the brackets? Uh, Dom, I think it's time for a quick pause in the action to tell you about our friends at Ascend Football. They're going to take good care of you.
I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Randy Fischer and Dewan Daniels. And I got to tell you, those guys are so freaking smart. They are so intelligent at what they do. And trust is a big deal for both of them. Yeah. And uh Dwan is so humble.
I mean, I didn't even know about his Super Bowl background until Randy got it out of him because he kept saying he had an interesting story. I'm like, "Oh, that's interesting." And then yeah, he was roommates with Brian Flores at Boston College, who is going to be one of the hottest head coaching names in this next cycle. No doubt. Possibly for the Colts. How fun would that be?
We got to get them both on in that case. College roommates. But anyway, college rubies. We're going to release that probably the week after probably next week. So, uh, give that a listen. That was It was You'll learn a lot about what all it takes to be an agent.
Yeah. About the business of it. I mean, they are I think Randy I mean he's a certified NFL like agent. like he's like legit. Yeah. He reps some huge names.
You can find out about it at ascend_b. They have some huge names and even bigger names that are coming out like Yeah. Uh it's crazy cool. It's it's And now with the high school stuff. Yeah. It's just it's pretty neat.
Anyway, uh do you want to run through brackets or do you want to do a player of the week? Let's run through brackets. Okay. So, there was only one 6A matchup and that was Franklin Central and Southport. Franklin Central got it done in a big way. I think it was like 43 nothing but Franklin Central's going to play Decar Central.
Did you have Franklin Central? I did. I had Franklin Central. Did Now in 5A did you have Greenfield Central or Mount Vernon? I had Mount Vernon. I had Mount Vernon.
So we're both one and0 and0. So former state champion at multiple stops. Mike Kersner uh back at his home home turf there. Mount Vernon Fortville gets it done. They play Cathedral though next week. That's a sectional to keep your eye on.
We'll mention it later in the show. But Mount Vernon Place Cathedral and then a rematch, New Pal and Pendleton Heights. Now Dom, I got to know when we get into the 4A, how many red marks do you have on your paper? Okay, so in the first round, two. I in the first round I have one. I know.
Isn't that crazy? Give me some on that. Yeah, come on now. Now, is your second one over Central? I had Charles Town beating Columbus East. Oh.
And then I had Booneville beating Evansville Harrison. I had Booneville also in my bracket. He was this close to a perfect first round. My sleeper. My sleeper coming out of uh the region is Hammond Morton. Yeah.
He texted me the other night and he's like, I had an epiphany. Looked at the sketch. Dude, Hammond Morton is really good at football. So, I think that Hammond Morton LOL game is going to be really solid this Friday. Dude, hold on. Hold the phone.
I don't think they're in the rankings at all. H Morton. No. But you know what? Under the radar, dude. They're six and four.
Yes. So the governors of Hammond Morton are six and four and you're like h four losses I don't know their four losses came to one 5A Chesterton by a touchdown who Chesterton has as good a shot as anybody with their path to get to a regional or a semi state right then they lose to Unity Christian out of Michigan they lose to Byron Center out of Michigan and they lose to Sterling out of Illinois. Okay, other than that, besides the Chesterton game, they are unbeaten in the state of Indiana and they have been putting it on teams, especially the last four games. I mean, Hammond Central 62 to8, Hobart 41 nothing, East Chicago Central 33 nothing, and they won their first round of sectionals against Hanover Central 55-28. It was it was the game against Hobert that they won 41 nothing where I said, "Hold on, let's get a look at these guys. they can play football in Hammond.
Hello, Governor. So, I have them Dom on my bracket. I have them winning a sectional cuz they're going to have LOL this week, which is going to be a test. That's going to be a huge game for sure. That's a test. Okay.
Here's a here's a similar comp. Okay. Okay. I'm following LOL lost to Andrean. Yes. 21 to7.
Lol loses to Andrean 21 to7. Andrean beat Hanover Central 36-6 and Hammond Morton beat Hanover Central 55-28. Okay, so that means that Hover Central is probably comparableish to Andrean that was the two touchdown victor over LOL. Okay, by the transitive property if you're rolling with me there. It's going to be a close game. It's going to be a close game, dude.
I think so. I have LOL. I think you're going to see this. Okay, I have LOL. You have Ham and Morton. I have Ham and Morton.
And then I have them winning again against Hobert. Yeah. Same. And then I have them seeing Northridge in the regional. And you have LOL in the regional against Northridge, correct? Yes.
Yeah. So this is going to be an interesting game. Circle this one, Dominic. I'm circling it. I'm literally circling it on my bracket. Hammond.
That's a game where we go different. What do you have in Hobert and East Chicago Central? Hbert. Okay. Um I also have Hobbit there. Northridge.
Yeah. We're pretty similar then. Do you have Northwood winning again? Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. Of course you do.
So, it's going to be interesting. That was a big game for me on this bracket. Um, as I continue down through 4A, uh, I don't think I really had It was kind of chalky. Yeah. Well, I mean, in a in a way like East Noble, Columbia City going to be a good game. DAB, Fort Wayne, Bishop, Dwinger, I think is going to be an okay game.
Yeah. I'm talking about games that we just happened. Oh, okay. Games that just happened. Yeah. The first we had to get out of the first round to get the better matches through the first round.
But I felt like it was pretty chalky in 4A really. Other than Columbus East, which I don't think Yeah, I think that if I would have looked closer, that could have been a schedule. Dude, you had to look at the schedules on that. But we did both expect Booneville to win and they did not. Just a quick check here. I do want to say that the Cal for Wayne Danger game I think is going to be really interesting.
So Burbuff gets past Short Ridge 42-21. They're going to have a matchup against Danville uh this Friday night. I'm telling you, collision course spang for Danville and Chitaard sectional championship. I'm I'm I'm excited because I think Danville's like we're for real and we want to prove we're for real and I think Chitaard's a little beat up and I just I don't know. I think the 2112 against Garren that was a weird game. Maybe we chalk it up to whatever but they got to get past North View first.
Um also we got East Central Jennings County. We got Bedford North Lawrence and Boone or excuse me Evansville Harrison and then Rights and Heritage Hills. Obviously, we got that one as well. I'm like looking through the bracket with the live scores like uh a good a pretty decent game. Uh what did you have in Shelbyville or Silver Creek? Shelbyville.
But that was a 3525 game. I thought that one was kind of a coin toss for me. Um all in all, really good round at the 4A. Yeah. Pretty chalky, I'm going to say. But this week, we're going to get into matchups in a little bit.
Uh Dom, talk to me. How many red lines did you have in the 3A? Okay. 3A got not good. It got uh the red red pen was out. Okay, so let's go first round because I marked them if I had them going.
I kept marking them. You know what I mean? Okay. Yeah, for sure. But okay, so one, two, three, four, five. Oh, how about this?
My whole left side was green, though. So, five. All excuse me, the whole right side was green. The whole left side, uh, we have five. Yeah. Okay.
So, what about you? Uh, I had one, two, three and three A. Three and three out had a boy. Okay, nice. I only had them winning one more game. So, I'm still sitting kind of pretty because you Yes, you the Hamilton Heights call A+ out of you.
Now, I had Marian getting past Angola. That was bad, boo. But like that was a that was a pretty close game. I think it came down and then I had uh Calumett beating Hammond Bishop Blank. Who? Null.
Oh. Oh, Bishop Null. Probably Bishop Null. I think you're correct. So, um, Calumet did not win that game, but, uh, other than that, solid looking for 3A Spang, we prognosticated this one, and it's finally come true. And if I, this would be among the three contenders.
There are probably three games I would consider going to this Friday if I was just a full-time get in sports employee. But, Evansville, Memorial, and Gibson Southern, that's going to be it. Finally. Heck of a matchup. Finally, we get it and I can't wait for it. That is going to be the winner of that one has my vote for state.
Yeah. Uh Dom, that's going to be a heck of a matchup. I'm excited. I think we're going to talk matchups here in a little bit. Uh for me, what do you like? Uh I So I got wrong.
Yeah, Bishop Null wins that game. I had that one wrong. Uh Tippy Valley. I had I had Tippy Valley. Uh Jimtown wins that really 154 upper left quadrant here. You didn't have Andrean.
And I did have Andre. Oh, okay. Yeah, I got to go hand up on that. I I I I was feeling frisky about Griffith. How far did you have Griffith going? I had Griffith going to regional.
I have Andre and the Fighting 59ers in the state. I had Griffith go into the semi-state. Goodness gracious. Dude, but here's the thing. Like Andrean is going to do it now. It just was tough for your bracket that it was in the first round.
It was that game because I have Andrean going to Andrean. I'm a huge fan. I I was really feeling Griffith though and they won 38-20. They left no doubt. So Andrean, you got my vote for the rest of the way. Yeah.
Then I got uh I I disrespected the Golden Arrows of Sullivan Sullivan. I had Owen Valley winning that game. Oh man. Other than that, dude, I was spot on. Yeah. Solid, man.
You got to give some love to Batesville getting it done over South Dearborn 6314. I think Batesville is one of those teams that can make something happen, man. They're going to have to they're going to run into Lawrenceburg. Yep. They've got Franklin County. This is a little like cross like Ripley verse Franklin County cross county rivalry there.
That's going to be a good one. Um again, Weebo, do not count out Western Boone. I do want to say Purdue Polytenic. Yeah, that game was 14 to6. Like this is for like in 3A, dude. Purdue Polytech, that's a great season for them.
They should be really really proud. They weren't even like an IHSAA football team a decade ago. Yeah, I totally agree, Spang. That's a great call. A little bit of me. I know we both we both circled Weibo.
I thought that that Webo might run the table and that's a really really good season and a lot to build off of. I think they even had like players like city players of the year. Let me look through it. I think I saw Yeah, Anthony Green, the quarterback for Purdue Poly was one of the city quarterbacks of the year. Just really, really cool. co- coach of the year, Tony Henderson of Purdue Poly and Brent Ash of Crystal House.
Like just an awesome awesome season and I hope they build off that momentum. I totally agree. That's a great call that it's just really cool to see a team just sprout and then become in the IHSA and it's not like 1A. They're in 3A. They're in 3A and that's competitive. 100% 14.
What are we talking about here? Like touchdown. Weebo's a good program. All right. All right. You think we're good on 3A here?
I do want to say the Sorggy report gets it done over Crawford'sville 4221. Yeah, Tri West is clicking. Um I was at the Speedway game in the regular season. They handled them pretty easily. I do expect them to get past. I do think a Tri West Western Boon sectional championship would be a lot of fun.
I think an Indian Creek Bluffton sectional championship would be a ton of or excuse me that says Sullivan. Sorry, my bad. I do think an Indian Creek Memorial Regional, however, would be incredible. Uh Bluton's over here taking care of business. They would have Adam Central in a sectional championship rematch. They got they got to get past Norwell first.
Okay, that's not going to be easy. I sent that in. You like the Norwell? No, I sent in uh Bluffton versus Norwell. Yes. Hold on.
Wait, what about it? Hold the phone. Hold the phone. Is that this week? It is this week. Bluffton verse Norwell.
What about it? Okay. Norwell beat Mrs. Sinoa. They were Mrs. Cino's previously only loss.
Bluffton vers Norwell in the 3A sectional 27 semis is this Friday. The last time these two crossount rivals faced each other was in 2006 where Norwell won 75 to zero. Whoa. Yeah, they haven't played since. Hold on. Just in the state.
They have not played. They have not scheduled. They are across the county. Holy smokes, Dominic. The last time they played was 20 years ago, and Norwell won 75 zip. Now they're going to have a first faceoff in two decades, and Bluffton's having an absolutely unreal season.
Norwell is good. That's going to be a game to watch, man. Totally agree. You can't count your chickens before your eggs hatch. If you're Bluffton, you got to keep the main thing the main thing. You got to beat four and five Norwell to then have to worry about potentially Adam Central.
Okay, Norwell, don't get caught looking ahead. Don't get caught looking at records either. Okay, Norwell's losses are to Calb, who's really good, East Central, who's really good. New Haven only by two. Leo, who's solid. Every single one of those city every single maybe not Columbia City, but all those first teams are way bigger.
Columbia City's 4A as well. 4A, 5A, East. We got 4A, 4A, 4A, 4 A, 4 A. So, yeah, but still all losses to 4 A schools. Yeah. Oh, I thought that Decal was bigger than 4A.
I I'm telling you, look, I'm not calling a Decal upset over Fort Wayne Dwinger, but I'm just telling you it's going to be it's going to be a close game. Decal's only three losses on the season are by a combined eight points. Who' they lose to? East Noble by four, Columbia City by one, and Huntington North by three in double overtime. They're eight points away from being 10 and right now. Dwinger is good.
Dwinger's really good. I'm This is no shame to Dwinger. No shade whatsoever. But all right, I'm just saying. Anyway, that's in 4 A. Talk two or talk 2A to me.
All right, let's talk 2A. How many red markers? Oh, this was a tough one, too. Uh 1, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. It was a tough one for 1, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Okay.
2A was tough, man. Okay, so my I my first one I got wrong was Whiting. Yep. Knox beat Whiting. How far did you have Whiting going? uh to the sectional championship.
I also had them going to the sectional championship. Wheeler. Yep. I also had that. So, that's going to be a tough one for both of us. Oh, I think this was an upset also.
Spangle, if I'm not mistaken, Central Noble over Manchester, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Central Noble came into that game with just one win. Mr. Spangle, uh I believe Dominic, you are correct. They are now 2-8. Manchester finished the season at three and seven, but Central Noble, good win for them, buddy. 100%.
I I did not have them winning that game. Same. I I uh I missed Seagar. I had Seager beating Oakill. Oill got it done over Seager. Seager was seven and two, dude.
See, again, sometimes you got to get into the the regular season there. So, Oakill, you know, they were they're now four and five. Uh but they beat Seagar 4921. Um, who's Ogill's losses to? I don't know. I don't know, Jim.
Um, I'm going to tell you this though. We talked about Typton over Eastern Greentown. I think that for me kind of takes the cake in class 2A. Um, but you're absolutely right, Spang. You can't you can't rely on records. All right.
We here on this show, we we like to think we go deeper than the records, but you know, we get caught. Sometimes you get caught. Okay. So, Oakill, they have five losses on the season. Okay. Yeah.
Yeah. Okay. Oh boy. Eastern Green Town. What? Wait, what sectional are they in?
Can you talk about uh this is sectional 35? Okay. Thank you. Okay. Eastern Greentown, Norwell, Madison Grant, Eastbrook, who is really good at football, and Miss Cino. Okay.
Other than that, dude, they beat Frankton. They beat Alexandria, which is a good win. They beat Blackford. They beat Northwestern. Then they beat Seager 4921. So, this sectional is interesting.
Okay, because this takes us back to the old Tipton situation and Lewis Cass situation. So, we got Typton and Lewis Cass going at it and then Oak Hill taking down Seager playing Deli this week. So, I you're absolutely right, Spang. They lost the Eastern by just one. Okay, wait. Here's what I'm thinking.
And then they played Norwell and Madison Grant who's really good and Eastbrook and Mississippi who's really good. I think you just said all that, but I'm going to tell you that. Dude, here's what I'm thinking. Doming. I am now staring down my Is that at the 1A? This sectional 35.
Riverton Park. Okay. It's better that they're at the 1A cuz I have Riverton Park making it to the state finals. Okay. No, I have actually I have I have them in the semi-state. I'm worried.
So, Seager loses to Riverton Park 4314. Yes, that is a handling. But Seager just got beat by Oakill 4921. 4921. Like that's the same game. And Oakill's five and five.
That makes me a little bit like I'm now starting to wonder about that little pocket of the state. So, so by record, I think that's a fair I think that's a totally fair um so like realization. Do you know what I'm saying? Like I start to then like because there's not a lot of crossover where you take it's West Central Indiana. Yeah. And there's not a lot of crossover of like common opponents that are like outside across the state.
I'm now thinking that little block from let's say Fort Wayne south is good football. Oh 100 talked about that all year. Yeah, but I mean I'm I was like oh yeah, West Central is really good too. I'm starting to think that I like my teams uh south of Fort Wayne a lot just in that area. Yeah, in that area that south of Fort Wayne area and then I would say like Evansville area but in that west central like let's call it what like south of Lafayette to north of Evansville that pocket and I'm I'm also still hot on like the Pioneer North Judson. I want to see some crossover between Pioneer North Judson Knox that area with the Fort Wayne area.
I think we're identifying some good football parts of the state and it's it changes every year obviously. We don't know. The records the records don't tell you at all when a team like Seagar is 7-2 playing the Carol Flores where they lost 3716 and then Benton Central Attekica Riverson Park Heritage Fountain Central Coington South Vermillion North Vermillion and then lose 2149 at Oakill. Like that is interesting because Oill's 5 and five. Anyway, that whole sectional is fascinating to me. Deli, Oakill, Tipton, and Cass.
I'm I'm I'm switching allegiances. Clay Manoring's got my vote% uh we go in obviously we talked about the Eastern uh I had I had Winchester winning and Shannondoa got it done. Yep. And that was only Shannonoa's second win of the year. Yeah. Good for them.
How about this? 4214. What are we missing? What are we missing? Dude, sometimes the guys just show up to play. Uh on the right side I had I did have Covenant Christian getting it done in that game.
So that was an OT, right? OT 221. Shout out to Cardinal Ritter. Get it done. I had Southmont. Same over Monrovia.
Uh that was a close game. 13-10 Monrovia. Oh, and I had South Vermillion over Green Castle, but Green Castle gets it done. We Yeah, we got to talk about Cole Stevens. Here's the Here's the numbers, Dom. Okay, so the previous record for completions was 833.
Cole Stevens now has 850. Passing yards, he's second all time. He has, I believe, less than 100. I think Kyle tweeted me back and said he has 80 or 90 yards. All time bassing leader is Jake Schiff. Okay.
Of Evansville Modern Day. He threw for 12,195 yards. Okay. Cole Stevens of Green Castle is 12,133. So he's got about 82 yards. Okay.
He's got to get it against South Putham, though. They're going to make him earn every completion, every You know, that's a little like cross town rivalry, too. Oh, absolutely. You know, like a little crossount rivalry. Uh, and then most passing TDs in Indian high school football history. Oh, that's a name that's close.
Near and dear, Skyler Titus. No, way more nearer and dearer to us. Jake Para. Oh, really? He still holds the career record with 142. So he So Steven's not touching that one.
Cole Stevens is at 132. Yeah, you would have to have a 10 to But here's the thing. Well, if they win, here's the thing. If they could win the game, one, but here's the other piece. These two teams already played South Putnham won 60 to zero. But here's the thing, Dom, passing in a single game.
Guess who holds the record for most touchdown passes in one game? Have I already guessed this person? Uh, you know, we're talking about this person, Matt Hunt. No, we're talking about this person currently. Oh, Cole Stevens. He holds the record for most touchdown passes in a single game.
Guess how many touchdown passes it was? 12. 10? No. So, he's just got to match his career high. He just has to match his career high.
Back in 2023, he threw for 10 touchdowns in a game. He's currently 10 touchdowns short of tying the alltime Indiana career record. So, we think or we know he has broken the completions record. He's less than 100 yards away from the yards record. He's 10 touchdowns away from the touchdowns record for a career. Was Cole Stevens playing somewhere?
Is Cole get Deetsz on the line? I believe he is. No, I think he's a Lehi commit going to Lehi. Okay, that's a really solid. He's a quarterback. Duh.
That that tells me Cole Stevens is a smart kid, by the way. Yeah, he's 6'3. Prep star says he's a fourstar. He's a 2025 Indiana pass leader. He's got a 3. 52 GPA.
Hand 10 in. VO 56 miles per hour. I mean, he's got all this stuff in here. 40 479 vert 35 in broad jump 106. Would you believe me if I told you I was a 471 back in the day? Hand timer on the laser.
Are you kidding me? That's not very You don't believe me, dude. 47? I was faster than Cole Stevens. Not much. Not much.
Look, I was I was I was in the weight room. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Cole Stevens. Hey, seriously.
Cole Stevens, hell of a career, man. Hey, that's the face of a guy who is going to be Indiana's passing leader, future All-American right there. That guy, Cole Stevens. What a career he's had thus far. And I think I think Todd Buttonham is good, but I think he's going to break this record. I think he's going to break this record.
The uh yards the yards record. I do not I I would say 10 touchdowns is a stretch, but I think he's going to break this record. Yeah, they got to get on the board. I mean, against South Putham's defense, nothing is given. Everything is earned. I mean, and you know, that's like a because, you know, his buddies were probably in his ear like, "Hey, come down and play for South.
Come play for South. Like, be our quarterback." I know. What are the lines there? They're so close. Yeah.
You know what I mean? Well, now you can choose any school. I know. That's so true. So, something to keep your eyes on. Okay, that's really interesting.
That's talking 2A. Glad we talked about Cole Stevens. I'll make a note. Absolutely, Dominic. Um, I also though that was the rest of my bracket. Everything else was right.
Quickly, I want to talk about Brownstown Central in class 2A. Okay, we have talked about Reed May and the Braves a lot on this podcast and rightfully so. I just want to say this again. It doesn't get old saying it. Reed May is 336 and 66 in 34 years at Brownstown Central. But there's one thing eluding him.
One thing. What is it? A state championship. A state championship. But look, Browntown Central's 10-0. They're outscoring opponents 45-3 on the season.
I had I heard you in my comments. Brownstown Central, they're by Louisville. They're not getting the love. I'm giving you all the love. Brownstown Central. I mean, I'm seeing sectionals, regionals, semates galore.
Went to state last year, lost 7 nothing to Andrean. Andrean back up to excuse me, Andrean bumps up to 3A. Brownstown Central as good a shot as anyone to get it done in class 2A. They get it done over Providence 51-7 in the sectional opener. They have Salem this weekend or excuse me on Friday. They beat Salem 347 in the regular season.
Reed May Hall of Fame career needs a state championship. Brownstown Central, this is your year. We're giving you love on the Get In Sports podcast. We love you guys down in Southern Indiana. Tell them we love Southern Indiana. I love Jackson County.
I had a spectacular time at Rock the Rine. I was an honorary Brave for a night. I I hung out. It's great. Brownstown, really interesting in Jackson County. Brownstown, pretty small, under 5,000 people, but is the county seat even though Seymour is also in the county.
Oh, really? Yeah, that's very interesting. The second biggest high school gym in the country. Seymour. Yes, that's true. Number two, we did know that.
This is their year. Okay. Eli Hutchinson, stud quarterback, 500 rushing yards as well. Lyndon Laneir, 685 rushing yards as well, 13 touchdowns. How about Eric Justice, 10 sacks? Keep your eyes peeled for Browntown Central.
I see you. I love you. I see you. Let's see what you can do in class 2A. Let's turn the page and talk about 1A. Uh, how many red lines in 1A?
Okay. Ready? Actually, 1A was a solid bounce back for your boy. Yeah. All right. I'm seeing one, two, three, four, five.
Okay. Maybe not that good about you had five. I had three. Okay. What were your Okay. On the left side, Carol.
Carol. We had Carol. Yeah. I had Carol going all the way out to a sectional finals appearance and then guess what? I was wrong to doubt Budr Wright. I was wrong.
I was on the wrong side. I was right. I roll with the rights. In fact, I roll with the rights so much that I had Bud Wright last week and I've got Kevin right this week. Yeah, same. Wait, actually I am.
I'm not going to be on the wrong side of the rights twice. You can't be wrong twice. It's not happening. You've got to be right. Matt's right or wrong. We didn't talk about Matt when we talk about matchups we like.
Let's scan 6A and five because we kind of breeze past one. We will absolutely do that. I had I had Carol winning that game. Uh congrats to I believe that's Clinton Prairie. We talked about them earlier in the show. Um another one that I didn't have.
I had no love for West Washington, man. No love for West Wash. They get it done over Springs Valley 2927 and Springs Valley was having a heck of a season. How you can't blame us for wanting Spring Valley to do well. Congrats to West Washington. That's a huge huge win for the team.
That's a big time win. I want to see that might have been Hold on. Hold the phone. One, I want to say two. Say it. They avenged a loss from earlier this season.
This happens, guys. This 30 to 15 on September 11th. Okay, I'm telling you, Batesville, going back to that, Batesville's one of their losses is Lawrenceburg. We said have to get past Lawrenceburg. They lost to Lawrenceburg by 15. It just is it a team of destiny.
I have to say, congrats to the Senators of West Washington. They're uh I mean, they have a couple losses. One point to Tel City, 15 points earlier in the season to Springs Valley, an overtime win over Poli. They Now, here's the thing, Doc. They've been kind of They've been kind of this. Hear me out.
They they overturned a 15-point loss in week one. They've got a higher road this time. Can they overturn a 26point loss to North Davies from earlier in the season? Hey, we know all about North Davies. All right. Trent fines group.
Fine group. 10 10 and0. Okay. One of the best I mean I don't think this is a stretch. One of the best seasons North Davies has ever had. I think that's a very real sentiment.
Yeah. Uh, West Washington is hosting the home game. I I don't know, man. What can happen? This is just sectional time. This is small school football, baby.
Dom, fun fact. Can you name the city that West Washington is in? No, I cannot. Campbellburg, Campbellburg, Indiana. Okay. Can you name what county this is in?
Think about it. Do a name. Washington County. There you go. West West Washington. in Campbellburg, Indiana.
Uh, what's the population of Campbellburg? I'm going to go a solid 507. Is that way too light? Campbellburg. Campbellburg. It is not 507.
529 as of the 2020 census. Okay, pretty good guess. Campbellburg, baby. West Washington, congrats on your victory. That was amazing. And then I had uh I had Park Heritage beat North Central Farmersburg.
So, how about the uh I also had that. How about the Thunderbirds? The Thunderbirds get it done. Do not count the Dom. Talk to me. Talk to me.
With I would say robust fashion. North Central gets it done 42 to6. Whoa. 42 to6. For their efforts, they have drawn Riverton Park. Okay.
But Dom, where's Riverton Park playing? Talk to me about Riverton Park. Riverton Park is going to be playing at North Central this week. Yes. Hold on. They're they're so they're near each other.
So North Central Farmersburg's a bit south of Teroot. Riverton Park is quite a bit north of Teroot. Yes. Now, Riverton Park is 9 and0. We were just singing their praises. Yeah.
Just had a clip about them. It's about over 30,000 views at this point. Okay, Dom, here's the thing, though. Riverton Park is in They're in that geographic region. I know. What are you saying?
So, Riverton Park beats Linton 21-0. There's got to be a They beat Tri 4712. They beat Fountain Central 4120. They beat Seagar 4314. North Vermillion, South Vermillion, big wins. Park Heritage, they beat Park Heritage 56- nothing.
Okay, I have a common opponent and it is that Park Heritage. Riverton Park beats Park Heritage 56 nothing. S North Central beats Park Heritage 426. Why can't it be a close game though? It I I think it will be a close game. I'm now re-evaluating everything that I know.
And they're they're coached by Nancy Wheeler's cousin, Nick Wheeler. Sorry. No, but how about But seriously, this could be a this could be an upset brewing. The Thunderbirds are coach Nick Wheeler 16 and 15 in his third year. I North Central came to Park Tutor and beat them 4419. North Central might be good, dude.
Okay. Are you calling an upset right now? Uh can't change the bracket, but are you calling an upset? You can't change the bracket. You can't change the bracket, but I'm circling this game. He's That's his only second circle, folks.
I'm circling this game. Getting serious. And I want to say I am I'm regretting I'm regretting my North Davies pick. I did not pick North Davies to win this region. I I have Riverton Park going all the way and they are a great team. They're having a great season, but I think they're going to I think it's not there's no easy road to Lucas Oil Stadium.
No. And I think that this one is a lot more this little quadrant. This regional section the sectionals and regional are very very interesting. Um, I also have Riverson Park in the semi-state. So, I mean, we're believing in you. Yeah, we clearly believe in you.
We believe in you, guys. We sound disappointed, but we're not. I'm worried. I'm not worried. I'm just uh No, I'm worried. Uh, but I think that's I'm not worried, but I'm worried.
I have them I I just They've been blowing teams out and I'm going back. I have I have strength of schedule bias now. Yeah, I have a strong bias because we've seen it come through time and time again where you'd rather lose close games to great teams than beat up on teams that are having down years. Something to think about. We shall see what happens. Something to think about.
The other one that I had wrong, uh, I had Park Heritage, I had springs, and I had Flora. Carol Flora. Okay, my man. How about that? We have two segments left in the day. Yes, we do.
First segment. Let's go. Player of the week. This is our player of the week powered by Ascend Football. Dom, who are our candidates for Indiana Player of the Week? I'm so happy you asked.
Let's go with our two honorable mentions here. I want to give some love to North Posey before we get into the players. Uh nine and one on the season. Their only losses to Heritage Hills. I got a Tik Tok DM about North Posie. We see you.
We hear you. A lot of people just looking at the clips. Listen to the pod. Your team will get love. Okay. Wait, what?
Where? Where is North Posie? They are 2A. They got Poli this week. Oh, dude. I'm now in on North Posie.
Tell City had a really close game against South Spencer. What do I have? Where are they? Uh bottom way south of 2A. Bottom right corner. I have North Posie winning.
Let's go. Do you have them winning against Poly? Yeah. Do you have them winning against Tel City? Yeah. Oh, do you have them losing to Brownstown Central?
Yeah. Oh, wait. I also Wait, I also have I have that, too. Wait, wait, I lied. All right, we're North Posie. We're North Posie back.
We're no we're no North Posie people. You talk about two guys. Uh, hey, what's that? You know that famous that famous album by Lil Wayne? Yeah. The Carter 2.
We've got two Carters in this game. Some say it's Carter squared here. Carter squared. They win 76 nothing over Perry Central and Commodore. Okay. Carter Schickle, senior QB, eight of eight, 211 yards, four touchdowns, four ties, slight work.
And then Carter, listen to Carter Hurdle, the freshman. Say again, the freshman, he carried the ball three times. He accumulated 150 yards and he scored three touchdowns. Every touch was a touchdown. 150 divided by three, 50 yards per carry. That's insane.
That's an insane stat. That's Randy Moss. Uh, you also have to say Carter went nine for nine. Completed every single pass. Oh, I had eight for eight. Uh, oh.
Per Posey County Radio. Nine for N. I trust Posie County Radio. So, those are some honorable mentions. One more honorable mention. Second honorable mention.
And he was he was this close to getting the dub for us, I would say. Yeah. For the player of the week, Malachi Goodman, senior running back for Bedford North Lawrence. The stars. And what a star performance from this guy. 18 carries, 258 yards, three TDs, which included an 81 yard rush.
I'm assuming a TD rush, one reception for 29 yards as well. But our player of the week, Spang, Mr. Allpurpose, this guy gets it done in every facet of the football game. And he plays for my pick to win the 1A state championship, the Blue Jays of North Judson. Aiden McGawan, 10 rushes for 108 yards, two touchdowns, four receptions for 135 yards, and a receiving touchdown, 243 allpurpose yards, five tackles, two tackles for loss, and an int. How about that?
Not only McGawan only over 100 rushing yards, two touchdowns, over 130 receiving yards, and a touchdown and a pick. And a pick and some tackles for loss. Oh, did I mention he plays cornerback tackles for loss? Dom, dude. Are we blitzing corners in North Judson? We blitz all night.
Great, great film. Great film. Hey, Aiden McGowan out. Congrats to the man. The Blue Jays. Aiden McGawan is our Ascend Football Player of the Week.
Yes, sir. The Blue Jays are going to have Winnac this Friday night. Can he keep the streak alive? We'll see. That's good stuff. That's a segment.
All right. Here's matchups we're looking forward to, Mr. Bangal Westfield Carmel. Don't need to say anything else. Westfield won this matchup 3834 in the regular season, but we know you throw records out the window. All four of Caramel's losses are to ranked teams.
Don't doubt Kevin Wright. Winner of this has as good a shot as anyone coming out of the north for 6A. Elsewhere in 6A, fifth ranked Crown Point unbeaten travels to Marville. This is a rematch of the regular season. 2314 Crown Point got it done. Marville's only loss is to Crown Point this season.
So, this is going to be really interesting. And I believe Marville is hosting this game. So, can the Pirates get it done? We shall see. In 5A, second ranked New Pal travels to Pendleton Heights. Another rematch.
Top five battle in Class 5A. New Pal won this game in the regular season 38-21. Pendleton Heights was up 14- nothing at the H or in this game at some point in this game. And Newal is Pendleton Heights only lost this season. Again, we've seen teams avenge losses throughout the state tournament. It's going to be a lot of fun.
This is the one. I think this is the game in the state of Indiana. 3A top ranked Evansville Memorial undefeated hosts thirdranked Gibson Southern. Gibson Southern just one loss on the year coached by our guy Nick Hart who's already won a state championship with Gibson Southern. Again, Gibson Southern's only loss, I believe, is to Floyd Central this season by seven and that was the first game of the year. So, they've rattled off nine straight.
Again, winner of this game has as good a shot as anybody in class 3A. So, really, really excited about that. Floyd Central travels to Castle. Top 10 battle in class 5A. Floyd Central very very solid. Dwanganger host Da talked about this matchup.
DA three losses this year combined eight points. Dwanganger defending 4A state champion. Going to be a lot of fun. 4A sixth ranked and unbeaten. Northridge fresh off a huge win over Mishawaka. Travels to Southbend St.
Joe. St. Joe's only losses to Penn. It's going to be a fun battle of the Northern Lakes Conference and the Northern Indiana Conference. Doesn't get much better. 4A eighth ranked Evansville writes travels to Heritage Hills.
sneaky sneaky game in class 4A that I think is going to have huge implications the rest of the way that would come out to like an East Central regional and I think the winner of this game gets to the regional against East Central. So I'm really excited about that. Gymtown big winners over Tippy Valley. They go to West Noble and 1A 7th ranked West Dell unbeaten travels to 10th ranked and 8-2 Nightstown the Fighting Robert Porters. Very excited about that. Those are games I'm really excited for.
It's going to be a great time. Don, before we wrap today, we do have to talk. There are state finals being played this weekend. We got to dive into what's going on in football with the soccer state finals matchups. Let's get into it. One thing about us, we celebrate all state champions here in the state of Indiana.
Winners drink milk. Winners drink milk. And one of the biggest things we have this weekend is the IHSAA boys and girls soccer state finals. And I'm really excited for all this has to offer. Uh, it's going to be this Friday, October 30th, Saturday, October 31st, and it's at Michael Carroll Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. All three matchup feature teams ranked in the top six of the final Indiana Soccer Coaches Association poll.
This is the boys soccer state finals preview powered by our friends at Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, a proud sponsor of the IHSAA. And Dom, we have some electric matchups coming uh for the boys state finals in the class 1A. This is going to be on Friday, October 30th. This Friday at 6 p. m. we've got the Twisters of OA Oldenberg Academy.
They are 18 and three on the season and they're taking on number one ranked Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, the Braves, who are 18-0 with two ties. Okay. Draws. Oh, yeah. Draws. We call them draws.
Soccer. I don't know. You know, the pitch and footy and offsides, the whole thing. Uh, educate me. Where is Oldenberg Academy? This is down in southeastern Indiana, just a few miles up the road from Batesville.
Okay. Uh where they host Freudest. Okay. It is Oh, yes. I knew that. The Absolutely Electric German Fest.
Uh this is a very very small town, I believe, of just around or or just under a thousand people. The Twisters, they play at the Graveyard. That's their that's their soccer field's name. It's right by a graveyard uh right on the outskirts of Oldenberg. And it is phenomenal. So, they're having a great season.
18 and three. Again, this is the 1A state championship. Oldenberg Academy making its first trip to the IHSA boys soccer state finals and they have ridden one of the most prolific scores in the state to get there. Now, Don, you know what's interesting is Oldenberg Academy used to be an all girls school and they started allowing boys in I believe the year 2000. So, this really this is Oldenberg Academyy's first trip to the IHSAA state finals. Uh they only allowed boys as of 2000 I believe.
It used to be an all girls school and I'm really excited to dive into. So the crazy part is they've been on an absolute terror since the beginning of the season. They lost three of their first four games of the season losing to East Central Lawrenceburg and number three Shaw Memorial went to PK's. Since then, they've rattled off 17 straight wins. The last time they got beat was back on August 22nd. Holy cow.
Well, you mentioned that loss to Shaw Memorial and PK's. They avenged that loss in the postseason, winning 2-1 in the regional semi-final and then they blanked Cena. S I NA. And then a semi semi-state senior Connor Holder scored the only goal of the night. And what a stand from Ryan Hoffman, the goalie. 10 shutout of Forest Park.
Okay, so Holder, you I mentioned that off the top. They're riding one of the most prolific scores in the state to get here. Connor Holder. Okay, 46 goals this season. Tied for the most in the state in any class. 46 goals is absolute insane work.
Uh 46 goals in 21 games, dude. I mean, he's averaging over two a game. Quick math tells me that is 2. 19 goals a game. That's nuts. But the interesting piece is they're not the favorite in this four-way Blackhawk Christian is no stranger to this stage.
The Braves are the defending 1A champions. They blank Cena 3 0 in last year's state final. And just like the 2025 Braves, the 2026 Braves have not lost. Just two draws. Do the math on that. This year in the regular season, they went 130 and two.
We mentioned the two ties, the draws against sixth ranked in 3A Fort Wayne Carroll and 20th ranked in 3A Fort Wayne Southside. So they're playing up this 1A Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian. They're playing up 3A schools drawing, not losing any of the other games. This is going to be a tall task for Oldenberg. Dude, they haven't lost since my guess is 2024. They haven't lost since October of 2024, right?
They got put out uh by West View, then came back in the 2526 season, went 19-0 with four draws, won the state championship against Cena 3 nothing, and then this year have not been beaten. They're 18-0. 180 and two. Man, that's good stuff. And again, those draws against higher classification schools. Blackhawk Christian in this postseason has looked every bit like the state's number one team.
They beat Westview. Good Warriors. Love that. The Braves held off Argus. How about Westview and Argus being really good soccer programs by the way. And then routed 20th ranked Morgan Township 9 nothing I should say for the regional crown.
And then at semi-state they ended second ranked Faith Christian's first ever semi-state run with a 5-0 shutout. So they're not just crushing their way through the state. Yeah, man. This is going to be a great 1A matchup to uh get things rolling. Friday 6:00. Friday at 6:00.
Then we go and look at the class 2A championship. This is going to be Saturday morning at 11:00. We've got number five Covenant Christian against number three Hammond Bishop Null. Now, Covenant Christian is 17-2. Bishop Null is 17-2 and two draws. Um we've got Warriors on Warriors in the 2A final.
Covenant Christian is back in the state finals after a one-year hiatus, but this is their first appearance at the 2A. They won the 1A title in 2024. They also took runner up in 12,7 and 18. So good. Bumped up the success. They're prolific when it comes to all things soccer.
Love that. The 2026 Warriors, they went 11-2 in the regular season. Their losses came to Park Tutor and Cardinal Ritter. They're a tough shell to crack, I say. They have only allowed five goals all season. Yes, sir.
And the postseason has been more of the same. They shut out Crystal House 3 nothing, 3-0. They shut out Washington 6, and number 11, Cardinal Ritter 3 in sectionals, avenging that earlier season loss by one. Uh then they blanked Connorville 3-0il, Danville 1 nil in double overtime and then beat Gibson Southern two to one at semiate thanks to a goal scored by sophomore Noah Blamberg. Nice Bloomberg. Blowberg.
I'm seeing Bloomberg. Blamberg. Sophomore Mason Stevens leads Covenant Christian with 16 goals. All right. Hammond Bishop Null. They arrive as a team that ended the defending champ season.
Garen Catholic, which won the 2A title last fall in a 1211 penalty kick marathon against Chitaard. Dude, I was there. That game was crazy. Were you really? That's funny. The was unbeaten through 20 games until the Warriors knocked off the Golden Eagles 10 at semiate.
Okay, they're chasing the second boys soccer state title in school history. The other one came back in 2018. They went 112 and two in the regular season with losses to number 12 Hanover Central and number two Mishawaka Marian. They had ties against two Chicago schools. Out of state, out of mind. Whoa.
But that's impressive though. You'd have to think the Chicago schools are solid. But they've been stingy in the tournament. Also, the Bishop Null avenged their loss to number 12 Handover Central in a wild 11 to10 PK shootout to settle a 2-2 tie in the opening round of sectionals and then blanked number nine Ilana Christian 3-0 in sectional semiis. After winning the sectional 6 at Boone Grove, the Warriors shut out number two Mishawaka Marian 1- nothing and number 18 West Noble 4- nothing in regionals before the 10 upset of the number one ranked Golden Eagles of Garen Catholic. Wow, how about that?
Five straight shutouts headed into Saturday and only 13 goals allowed this season. So, we got Covenant Christian Hammond Bishop Null Warriors on Warriors. That's 2A. Excited for that one. uh for the 3A. This is kicking off at 4 PM on Saturday.
We're gonna see the number one Castle Knights against the number six Carol of Fort Wayne Chargers. Now, the Knights are 192 and one. The Chargers are 173 and2. And Castle is back in the boys soccer state finals for the fifth time in program history. They won their lone state title in the single class format back in 2000 when they beat North Central 53 in PKs. Love that.
The 2026 Knights went 13-2 and1 in the regular season. They lost to 3A, second ranked Bloomington South, seventh ranked in 3A Evansville Memorial and tied against Trinity out of Kentucky. Dude, I'm loving these soccer programs. A playing up and B playing out of state. I'm a fan of that. They're getting to work, man.
And if you like close games, Castle is your team. They have won five of their six postseason matches by one goal or on penalty kicks. Wow. They beat number nine Jasper 10 in overtime. Number five Evansville North. Then they beat Floyd Central 10 in the regional semi-final.
And they survived number two Bloomington South in a 000 regional final winning the shootout 43. So avenging that earlier season loss. Yeah buddy. At semi-state, junior forward Lucas Dorado opened the scoring in the first half before Reed Ainskoff. Nice. Buried the rebound of Dorado shot off the post in overtime to beat defending champion Caramel 2-1.
All right, the Knights are led by Dorado. Second and 3A in both goals and assists, 29 and 19, respectively. Fort Wayne Carroll making its first ever trip to the boys soccer state finals. Now, the Chargers started the season off a little bit shaky. They were 33 and2 before they rattled off 14 straight wins to reach the 3A state final. They lost to 2A uh Mishawaka Marian 1- nothing, 3A Gan 1 and 2A number four Leo 3 nothing.
And then they tied Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian. You heard about them earlier. And also tied Cathedral um earlier in the season. Okay, wait. First of all, seeing all these stats makes the Oldenberg Academy kid really stand out with 46 goals. Yeah, that's actually insane.
Anyway, now the Chargers are led by senior striker Spyros Ratis and his 12 goals. So, and uh so the thing about Carol is their path to state was not easy. They ran through some absolute heavyweights. Yeah. After earning 9030 and 50 shutouts in sectional, the Chargers needed overtime to get past number 20 Fort Wayne Southside 2 to1 in the regional semi-final. Then they shut out Hamilton Southeastern.
Whoa. 20 for the regional title. And then at semi-state, they built a 20 halftime lead over Gan and made it stick and also avenged that loss. We're seeing a theme here with our boys soccer state champion representatives. M you got to beat the best to beat the best and if you're going to it's hard to beat a team twice. We've said this.
Yeah. So I guess the big story lines here, Dom, can Oldenberg Academy and its 46 goal scorer pull off the first title in program history or will Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian finish a perfect season with back-to-back 1A crowns? The battle of the Warriors. Will Covenant Christian's near impenetrable defense carry the day for a second title for the program? Or will Hammond Bishop No follow up its upset of the defending champs with its second state title in program history? That would be for 2A.
Yes, sir. And in the biggest class in them all, can Castle deliver its first state championship since 2000? Or will Fort Wayne Carroll crash the party in their debut? We'll see what happens. It's going to be a lot of fun at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
Beautiful stadium. My wife and I walk by it all the time. It's fun to usually just pop in there, take a couple laps, or watch the Indie 11 practice. But good stuff. That's the boys soccer state finals preview. Mr.
Spangle, this is the girls soccer state finals preview powered by our friends at Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, a proud partner of the IHSAA. Dom, what are we seeing for girls soccer matchups? Wow, I'm enjoying this. It looks like the ladies have the night caps um on both days. Am I seeing that right? We've got a Friday night game and then we've got Saturday at 1:30 and Saturday at 6:30.
Okay, good stuff right there. Let's start with class 1A Friday 8:30 Eastern. Man, 8:30. It's getting late out here. All right. Hey, fourth ranked Providence 13 and five taking on seventh ranked Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian.
Dude, they're back. Boys and girls in the state finals. That's That's a party. Fort Wayne and Indie 172 and three are the Braves. All right, so Providence no stranger to this stage of the IHSA girls state soccer tournament with this being the Pioneers fourth state finals appearance overall. They won the 1A title in 2011, all right, over Mishawaka Marian.
The following year, they lost 20 in regulation against that same Mishawaka Marian squad in the 1A final. Providence returned to the 1A championship game again in 2024, but came up short 2-1 against Faith Christian. So, they got the experience. Okay. 2026 Pioneers went 8-5 in the regular season with their losses coming to out of state assumption out of Louisville, four instate schools in bigger classes. They've navigated the postseason without conceding a goal in all five of their games, outscoring their opponents 23 nothing.
They blank Salem, Christian Academy, and 13- nothing over Salem. In the regional, the Pioneers used first half goal to defeat third ranked Forest Park one- nothing before blitzing 15th ranked White River Valley in the championship with three first half scores in a 4nil victory. In semi-state, the Pioneers pitched a one- nothing shutout against Switzerland County behind freshman goalkeeper Olivia Troutman's nine saves. Shout out nine saves. Good stuff. Now, Blackhawk Christian though both teams, boys and girls, are in the state finals.
This is the girls first trip to the state finals. The Braves haven't lost to a 1A school this season. They went 112 and three in the regular season losing to Leo Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran while earning ties against Northrep Lewis and Elcart Christian Academy. In their six postseason games, Blackhawk Christian has outscored opponents 21 to five. In sectionals, the Braves ran past Central Noble 6 nothing and also Fort Wayne Canterbury 4 to1 before winning a 32 thriller over number two West View in the championship. Then they beat Argus 2 to1 Trinity Academy 3 nothing in regionals and erased number five Oak Hill 3 to1 at semi-ate.
Good stuff. How about the boys Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian been there, done that. The girls first time. What if they practice against each other? That has to be electric, dude. Soccer dynasty.
Soccer dynasty up in Fort Wayne. The Braves are led by junior Shalom Obliger, who has scored in all six playoff games, including two goals a piece in four of those contests. She leads the team with 29 goals, tied for 10th in class 1A and goals. So, we'll see who gets it done. Providence or Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian. Yes, sir.
Okay, moving on to the 2A. This is Saturday 1:30. We've got the number one Evansville Memorial Tigers. They're 19-2 with a one draw on the season versus the number 10 Golden Eagles of Garen Catholic who's 97 and two, but have caught fire in the postseason. So Garen Catholics only played 18 games as compared to Evansville Memorial's 23. Something something to look at.
That's kind of interesting. I wonder if that's like tournament play or I don't know what, but something's going on there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Now these two teams met in the regular season at Karen Catholic Memorial walked away with a three nothing win behind two goals by the senior Brena Alpers.
Yeah. The mountain to climb for Golden Eagles is a tall one. Not only because the Tigers beat them on their home field in the regular season, which we just said, but if there was ever a program taking up real estate annually at the IHSA Girls Soccer State Championships, it is Evansville Memorial, which I am learning is clearly an athletic powerhouse. They are a powerhouse. Goodness gracious. The Tigers are making their ninth appearance in girls soccer state finals, second most in state history behind Caramel.
Yes, it's true. Their record of 16. Evansville Memorial won it all in single class format in 96. How about that? That's awesome. And 2008 and claimed 2A titles in 2012, 2017, 2021, 2022.
Can someone say dynasty? The Tigers were single class runner-ups in 95 and 98. Now the 26 Tigers went 132 and one in the regular season. They lost to 2A number five modern day 2 to1. 3A number six Zansville 2 nothing. And since that loss to Zansville, they won seven straight.
They tied 3A Bloomington South and then rattled off another eight consecutive wins. Most impressively, they have outscored opponents 113-4 this season. Wow. Their postseason runs includes a sectional championship win over Modern Day, avenging that loss, regional wins against Heritage Hills, Batesville in a semi-state victory over Tri West. Junior midfielder Avery Slade is a points machine. She leads class 2A with 21 assists and has also found the back of the net 36 times, tied for more than fourth most in class 2A.
All right, Garen Catholic, on the other hand, making its fourth trip to the girls state soccer final, seeking its second title. The Golden Eagles were the 3A runner up in 2017 and 2020 and captured the 2A crown in 2023, beating Leo 1 nil. Dude, they played a gauntlet of a regular season. They started out 0 and4 out of the gate going 2-6 and one against ranked opponents and 47-2 overall. They lost their first four games of the season to Westfield Zensville Chitaardbuff. They ended the skid with a 2-1 win over Fort Wayne Bishop Dwinger.
Then they tied Heritage Christian, lost to Evansville Memorial, shut out number 13 Cathedral and lost to number one Hamilton Southeastern 8 nothing. Okay, but stack the schedule. Clearly it paid off because now you're in state. Those regular season battles prepared the Golden Eagles for postseason play. The Golden Eagles avenged their previous loss to Burbuff, winning 2-1 in sectionals. Love that.
Again, a theme here in the state finals for both boys and girls. And then they followed it up with a scoreless tie, winning in penalty kicks, 4-2 against Park Tutor. Shout out Park Tutor. Temperance Warren, her mom's Christine. Worked with her at WTHR. She kicked a field goal when we were there at Operation Football Sunrise Kickoff.
She missed. She She made it in her practice kick and then missed. Unbelievable. Tempe. But anyway, she's a soccer player 4-2. Park Tutor had a great season.
They took down 18th ranked Delta. That is Garen Catholic did three nothing. And unranked Culveries and Regionals. Then they knocked off second ranked Southbend St. Joseph 1 nil in semi-state on a second half goal scored by freshman Laney Yohi. Yes, freshman.
Wow. She's a freshman. Bump bump bump bump. That's gonna be a heck of a two-way matchup. You've got Garen, you've got Memorial. Hey, 13 of Golden Eagles 18 games have come against ranked opponents.
That's why they're here. Absolutely. Yeah. To be the best, you got to beat the best. And the final girls state finals matchup. You've got Center Grove against HSSE, the undefeated Royals of Hamilton Southeastern.
Uh Center Grove 172 and two. Now Center Grove is back in the girls soccer state finals for a third time. They're seeking the program's first championship. The Trojans were runner up in the single class format back in 97 and the 3A finalist in 2024 where they lost 3-1 to Noblesville. The Trojans went 112 and2 in the regular season tying Kentucky Power Central Harden. How about that?
They are currently 220 and3. So that's pretty impressive tie there. And 3A 7th ranked Noblesville while losing to 3A second ranked Homestead and 3A6th ranked Lawrenburg. Again, that's Center Grove. In the postseason, they won their sectional final over East Central and regional final over 10th ranked Evansville North. Center Grove then cruised past Brownsburg 8-1 in semi-state.
How about that? The offense runs through senior Mia Marlin whose 27 goals are tied for fifth most in 3A. But Spangle, we got to talk about HSSE. They have not lost since October 12th of 2024 when Noblesville ended the Royals perfect season with a 10 triumph in their sectional final. Since then, the program's first ever state championship in 2025. 44 wins and one tie in their last 45 games played.
It's a no wonder, Dom, they're ranked number one nationally in fall girls soccer. This is the Royals of HSSE. Number one nationally and they just won their first state championship a year ago and have what 44 wins and one tie. They are 22 and0 this season. Dude, they have bludgeoned their opponents with only two games decided by a one-goal margin and three more decided by two. In sectionals, they raced past number nine Mount Vernon 4 nothing.
Survived number two Homestead 4 to3 in the regional final and sent number 14 Crown Point Packin with a 5-0 win at semiate. Junior forward City May and Skyler Mueller get it done for the Royals up front, scoring 27 and 22 goals, respectively. about almost 50 goals between the pair. That's incredible. That's only four goals more than the Oldenberg Academy kid. So, that's pretty impressive.
That That's an unreal stat. All right, Spang. So, let's run this down here. Can Providence win its second girls state soccer title, or will Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian claim the 1A crown in its debut? Will Evansville Memorial hold serve as the number one team in class 2A with a championship and its seventh overall? Or will Garen Catholic continue its improbable postseason run going from 0 and4 at the start of the season to a second title?
And in the biggest class of them all, can Center Grove get in the win column on the biggest stage? Or will HSC finish another perfect season with a second consecutive 3A title? We're going to find out this Halloween weekend. Halloween weekend. We're going to find out this hall weekend. We will indeed find out on hall weekend.
Mr. Spangle, that is a girls soccer state rundown and boys soccer state rundown. Awesome teams. We're excited for it. Downtown Indianapolis, Friday the 30th, Saturday the 31st. Thank you so much for listening.
