It's very Midwestern. A lot of welps and hopes. Yeah. Was it Puff Daddy? How's he doing?
Producer Chris might be the most interesting person you've never met. I don't think I like being touched by strangers. Chris, look that up. You can I'll look it up. I'm on it. You got it. You can look it up. No, I'll look it up. Here we go. We're professionals. Do they have batting cages at birdies? Um, not officially. Yeah, he had shingles. I don't know if that played into it there or not. So, what do you do? You can't possibly do this for a living.

They've seen our work.
Special guest in studio, Roman Bl. Now, Roman, you are my intern.
I am. I am.
Um,
and Roman, why are you here today?
Well, uh, I wanted to I I was told that I was just supposed to see uh like how how it works, how the how the podcast,
how the sausage is made, right?
How the sausage is made. Exactly. And uh and then I was told that uh last minute that I could be a guest. So I was like, you know what, man? That sounds great. So
all right, Chris, can we turn his voice down? It's awful grading. I'd mute it.
It is.
I'm just kidding, Roman.
Uh speaking of producer Chris, he's over there behind Video Village. Producer Chris, say hello.
Good morning.
He is a faceless, disembodied voice. But remember, when we hit a thousand subscribers, we're almost to 100. Last I checked, it was 96.
Oh,
yeah. We're almost there.
Yeah.
We're going to show producer Chris's face and we're going to put uh a face to that voice. Uh but Video Village is where he currently resides. Uh they're used by Roman You'll appreciate this. They're used by such uh luminaries as Joe Walsh of the Eagles.
Mhm. Okay.
Um Joanamasa of Joe Bonamasa. Um and the Counting Crows use them.
Oh yeah.
Um who else? There was a Isn't there like a mandolin player that uh
Sierra Hull?
Is that who it is? Yeah. I was thinking it was Molly Tuttle, but I don't think that's
Oh, we've done stuff for her, too.
You've done stuff for Molly Tuttle, too? I knew that.
Why did that come up? My daughters, I think, were listening Oh, that's what it was. We're listening to um the Hunger Games sequel or like series of sequels
that came out. The soundtrack to the first one has like very rootsy um almost like Appalachia. Yeah.
Appalachia. Appalachia. Say it with your your voice.
Oh, Appalachia.
There it is. And Molly Tuttles on that. I was like, and the girls really liked the song. I was like, "Oh, I think uh Tyler made a guitar star or a mandolin strap for it or something."
Did the strap sound good?
Sound great on the recording.
Couldn't even hear it. That's how good it was.
Yeah. We make the quietest straps in the biz.
You heard it here, folks. Makers of the quietest straps in the industry. You can get yourself a quiet strap and save 25% at LN Products when you use code Hamco at checkout. All right, let's get to it. Weekends. Tyler, what'd you do this weekend?
Let's see. Uh, Saturday went to beer with my significant and played Sky Joe, which I believe you can probably get at Moonshot Games.
That's right. Moonshot Games.com.
Goombot Grooms.
Who won that match?
Uh, I don't think we were keeping score.
Yeah. And then
sounds like maybe you didn't win.
No.
Okay.
0 for five.
Oh yeah.
You played five rounds.
Yeah. Yeah. Uh what else did I found? A good deal on beef jerky at a gas station.
That right.
Yeah. Yeah. Uh
what's the deal? It
was $4 for a pound of beef jerky.
What gas station?
A Speedway on Connor.
Oh yeah.
Yeah. It might be expired, but tastes fine. Tastes fine.
Okay.
Uh what else did I do? Oh,
does jerky expire?
I don't know. Chris is shaking his head now. No.
Okay. Well, it's good.
Okay. Well, producer Chris says so. I believe him.
Did a lot of did a lot of research on the Pony Express for my doctoral thesis. Got a lot of work done on that.
That's good.
I've been dragging my feet on it for a while. Finally, my professor was like, "Stop horsing around and finish this thing up." Oh, that's just the kind of material you get to hear every week when you subscribe to the Hamco Go live hot ticket podcast. Uh, great puns like that.
Mhm.
That is that all you did? You didn't have any gigs?
Oh, I did. Yeah.
You played Somewhere Friday.
Yeah. Joe's Grill and Fischers.
Oh, that's right.
Yeah.
What's the deal over there, Joe's? How'd you get that? And cuz they don't post really.
They didn't announce that show.
Yeah. Well, I can understand.
Probably just me.
Um, no, my buddy Ike booked me there. It's a good spot. Younger crowd.
Okay.
Yeah. I was uh I was feeling a little older there.
Okay. You need to put us in touch with Ike so we can get them on the calendar.
Okay. Yeah.
Because we get Westfield on the calendar, but
not Fischers. Interesting.
Because I don't think Fischers does it. Maybe they only do it in the summer.
Oh,
maybe. I don't know.
I don't know.
Not sure. It's a good spot.
Yeah.
Nice stage.
Okay.
Cool. Yeah.
Okay. How was the gig? Good crowd.
Good crowd. It was more, you know, there were more people at the end than the beginning. It's one of those It's a later bar.
You didn't drive them away like usual.
No.
Nice. No.
Okay.
Brought them in. That's a nice change for you.
I I don't know if I brought them in.
I think the drinks kept them there.
Uh, break on any new songs? Nope. Standard fair. Yeah.
Good. Good.
Going with what doesn't work every gig.
Rowan, what is a high schooler in 2026
um
do on the weekends?
I'm doing a lot of working right now uh uh this weekend. Uh Harbor Trees Beach Club. Uh golf and beach club. Um
what do you do there?
I am an expo. So I take foods to food to the tables. Um and I've been doing that for four years now. It's been a while. Um,
they just they won't move you up to waiter, huh?
No, not yet. Maybe. They've been they've been pushing me to get my license, so maybe. But, uh,
wait, you don't have your license?
My my liquor license.
Oh, liquor license.
Uh, no, not yet. Uh, but, you know, my manager's pushing me to get it. So,
yeah, it's really easy.
This could be this today. Could be.
It's an online thing, isn't it? It is. Just go online. Yeah.
I uh
What's the problem with our youth? They don't know how to use
get your liquor license.
So, you're basically your you're a food runner is what you're telling me.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right. So, you worked all weekend?
I did basically. So, Friday I worked, Saturday I worked all day and then Sunday I got out of work at 4 and then I was able to uh I wanted to try on my my prom suit to see how that fit. Oh boy. And uh fit pretty well.
All right. All right. Is there a
No. No lucky No lucky gal. But uh maybe after this show.
Yeah.
But um
ladies, if you're looking for a hot date to prom, look no further than intern Roman.
His tux is fitting pretty well.
That's what the rumor is. He's looking pretty sharp.
Still wearing cumber buns to prom.
Yeah. What's the cumber bun situation like?
I I don't know anything about that situation, but uh
what about suspenders? You a suspender guy? Uh,
you go bow tie, you go standard tie.
I'm a standard tie kind of person. I uh
What kind of knot you using? A Windsor? Using a Windsor knot?
Double.
Single Windsor.
Single or double?
Single. Single. Yeah.
Yeah, it's probably best.
When is prom?
Prom is uh this Saturday, so
Oh my goodness.
It's in Indianapolis. I forget what the It's some cathedral down there. So um
Scottish right.
Scottish right?
I think so. Yeah. Yeah.
Cool. Okay.
All right. Let's get this guy a date.
Come on.
That's all right. I'm going with my with my buddy, my uh my best friend. So,
okay.
Going stag.
All right. Yeah. You get a lady while you're there. He don't want to commit. I
leave your options open.
Yeah. Open-ended. Smart.
Um, so you worked all weekend. What are you doing with all this money? First of all, I have a question on that. Do you get tipped out at the end of the night? um tipped out not by waiters or waitresses, but uh we have to go and they get tips and that we split those 5050. So um
So you run the food for the weight staff, but they don't tip you out.
No, they don't. They also don't do that for busers either, which is kind of fun.
We're going to have to work on that situation.
Wow. Harbor Trees. Harbor Trees.
Harbor Trees.
Harbor Trees.
Do they tip the bartender out?
Mhm.
But they don't tip you guys out.
Well, no. Sorry. They don't tip the bart bartender gets their own tips. But um
Wow, that sounds archaic. I've not worked in a bar where they don't tip out in 20 years.
More than that.
Let's start a petition.
Yeah. Harpetric, if you're listening, would you consider sponsoring us
and tip this guy out, will you?
I mean, they do get quite a bit of um players over the summer, like Jay Baker and stuff like that, so
Okay. and hire us to play gigs while we're at it.
Yeah, we'll come play. Um, okay, that's good. How's your weekend? Christopher, what did you do?
Uh, I went down to the Harrison Center on Friday night and saw the Pickle Stompers play on the roof.
Oh my gosh.
Where's the Harrison Center?
16th in Delaware.
Oh, Indianapolis.
Yeah. But they had uh they had like acrobats in the in the front yard and these things your kids could run around and play on. Pickle stoppers on the roof.
Cool. competition. Here's the thing. I would reverse that. I'd put the kids and the acrobats on the roof.
Mhm.
Put the pickle stompers on the ground.
Oh, that's interesting.
That's what I would do.
Why? Seems dangerous.
I know. I'm worried about my pickle stompers.
Oh, well, they are a national treasure. They're
rowdy bunch. Yeah,
I wouldn't fall.
All that stomping on the roof.
Structural. That's a structural problem if you ask me.
It's waiting to happen.
Yeah. Okay. Uh, and then I I went down Saturday morning and helped out with uh, Music and Transit, which is like a uh, YouTube series where bands load up on Indiegogo buses. And
who do we have on this uh, edition of Music and Transit?
This was the uh, Trice edition uh, which is your local uh, hiphop festival here in Indianapolis. So, we have
help out with that every year.
Russy Redbacher and uh, Juicy Gut Bars and uh, PS Maldana and Gameover Collective. Okay. All of them were on there.
Yeah, they do three songs each.
That's a lot.
Yeah, we were there from 9 to noon to do the to go through those groups. H
Do any just regular uh lay people get on the buses to ride them while they're doing this or is it just kind of sectioned off just for the performance?
No, nobody gets on it. Doesn't it? It also doesn't move. Uh, I think maybe they used to do it with it moving, but now it just they park it somewhere and the bands kind of shuffle on and off.
The movement's implied, I feel like.
Mhm.
For those of you that aren't familiar with Music and Transit, it is a video series on YouTube and maybe other places, too, but it's local musicians in Indianapolis and they hop on a on a bus uh indie bus and they perform.
Mhm. Is
that about right?
Yeah.
Yeah. And who uh who puts that on? his sponsors that or whatever.
Um,
was that Indie Go? Was that like their thing?
Yeah, Indie Go. And then Music and Transit is its own organization, uh, ran by a guy named Jake Huber, um, who's a videographer who I think came up with the concept.
Yeah, it's good. Good series.
Interesting.
You ever played on any moving object?
Um, have I ever played? That's a good question. I don't think so.
Boat.
No, I've never played on a boat. Boats. I did one of my worst gigs ever was on a a booze cruise on the Charleston Harbor.
Nice.
And I get real bad motion sickness. So, this was bad news from the start. And if I mean when it was a booze cruise, like it was as described like people were just wasted
and the the sea was angry that day, my friends. And so we're playing on like the deck of the boat and it is like going side to side. I'm like trying to hold on to the the mic stand. The drummer symbols are falling over. It was a disaster. That's all I remember about it.
Love it.
We get done and then my buddy that was on then just goes straight off the boat and throws up in a fountain. It was just awful.
Oh man, that's great. We did a It wasn't a boost. I mean, they had drinks or whatever, but it was a sunset cruise in Michigan this past summer. They had a musician on there. It was pretty good.
Yeah,
it's a great idea.
It I mean, it's a nice idea.
Angry, you know,
depends on the the body of water.
Um, uh, let's go over here to Roman. Roman, you uh you're you're a guitar player, is that correct?
I am. Yeah.
Have you uh you do any gigs?
I have. I've played gigs uh in the past. I haven't played any recently. Uh just because college and getting ready for college and stuff, but
where are we going to college?
Uh Old Miss.
No way.
Yes.
Getting out of town.
Yeah, man.
Um I'm going to do uh business there. Um
yeah, they didn't have any business schools here in Indiana.
They do. Um
that one Kelly School of Business.
They do. Um I uh I just really like the campus down there. Um
likes the Southern Girls, too.
Yeah. Um,
well, the way they talk, they knock me out when I'm down there.
Come on. That's good.
It is.
That's a nice pool.
It is top of
Um, yeah. So, I've I've played uh at Caramel Music Academy. We've had plenty of gigs there. Um, I've played at uh Rock and Roll Summer Camp up in Muny.
Cool.
And I've played in uh uh what's it called? Uh Sweetwater Rock Camp.
Yeah,
I've done there. I've done that. Um, and I've just done private, like not private, but uh, gigs on my own with my band so caramel and stuff. So, yeah.
That's awesome.
That's great, man.
More gigs than I played in high school.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, most of my gigs in high school were relement and it was just me and him.
Yeah. I did one at Manino's Pizza and Grinders. That's about it.
I think it was a 20 minute set.
60 minute setup.
60 minute setup. for 20 minutes. So, that sounds about right.
That's all the music they needed to hear.
Uh, let's see. My weekend, what did I do? Um, Friday I was supposed to work. Um, got called off because of the weather. So, I work at Beer. I'm also Well, I'm not really Beer's kind of strange in that everybody does everything. So, we're all food runners. We're all bartenders. So, same thing. I take stuff off the expo and take it out to people or whatever or I'm taking orders and pouring drinks or whatever. Uh but Saturday I did work and there was a band there at Beer Brewery in Noblesville, Midwest Originals. Were they did they play when you was already setting up? Okay.
Well, I talked to the guy so they're like asking where to set up and I was like I'll help you. Um kind of introduce myself. His name's Jordy. Hi Jordy. He watches the podcast.
No way. I was like, "Yeah,
what are the odds?"
He goes, "Hey, are you the guy in front of the podcast?" Like, "Yeah, that's
very cool. Shout out Jordy."
Nice, Jordy. They did a nice job. Uh, it was the duo. They have a full band, but Jordy and his wife whose name I can't remember, but um, they perform as duo, too. So,
you know what? I saw where they were setting up, though. That seems like the best spot
for
It was It's on the patio in the corner for like a duo. That seems like a great spot.
Duo. That's great. Well, even I mean if the weather were nicer, there's probably, you know, there going to be more people outside, so there's better places to set up outside. And they just put in I think it's going to be a stage. Um I don't Did you see it when you were there?
They were working on it. I guess that was Saturday when they were finishing it, but it's like a very reminiscent of um Grand Junction's stage. So raised platform and then it's got the roof on it and
cool
everything. I assume that's going to be a stage. I don't know. If not, it's like a
wedding
weird structure, I guess. I don't know. Uh but anyways, they did a good job. And then uh I didn't really do anything other than that. Kind of a chill weekend. It was kind of nice.
Good. We all need those.
Yeah.
Yeah. All right, that's the weekend. Let's get into the Hamco live top five.
Hamco live top five. Hamco live top five.
It's the Hamco Live Top Five this week brought to you by Moonshot Games. They are kind enough to let us use the studio up here. Moonshotamestore.com is where you can go to find any sort of games that you want to play. board games, card games, and other things of that ilk. Um, I get stuff from Moonshot Games all the time. You should see my board game collection. You've seen it.
It's impressive.
It's impressive.
Yeah. Anyways, I get most of them from moonshot gamestore.com. Actually, I just come down to Moonshot Games. They're right there on the square. And don't let all this construction scare you. Come on down to the square. There's lots of great stuff going on. Businesses are booming and they're open and they're waiting to serve you. So, Moonshot Games is no exception. Come down here, get your new board game, get you something to play on those rainy days. What's up with all the rainy weather, man?
My wearing me out.
Here's the thing. Today's category for the Hamco Live Top Five is summer jams. And my thought in picking that was like, we're close to summer and then it's been cold.
Yeah. Like ever since I sent that, hey, we're going to do summer jams on Wednesday.
We should have done like rainy day music.
I know.
Put that down there.
Yeah.
Uh anyways, uh so we're going to do summer jams today in hopes that by creating the playlist.
Yeah.
And coming up with the top five, the weather will cooperate.
We'll put it into existence.
That's right.
We're manifesting summer.
Manifesting summer. You're welcome. By the way, Indiana, uh,
the National Weather Service wants to sponsor this podcast.
Oh, there was a torn when when was the tornado warning? Was that this past weekend?
I think it was the week before.
It was the weekend before.
Oh, Friday.
Like a week late.
Friday afternoon.
All right. Well, there goes our sponsorship from the National Weather Alliance.
Oh, well. Oh, well.
Um, okay. So, if you go to Spotify and look up Hamco Summer Jams, you'll find the playlist. We put a bunch of songs on there. I just started going down a rabbit hole like, "Oh, that's a great summer jam, too." Um, but we put a bunch on there and you can check out the uh playlist. Uh, it's pretty good. It's long. It's maybe our longest one yet, Chris was saying. But we're going to take our songs from that, our choices from that, and come up with the top five, definitive top five summer jams of all time.
Because we're experts, and you can trust us.
We're authorities.
We're authorities. Because we say so.
That startled me. So, this is the Hamp live top five summer jams. Tyler, you're going to kick it off as
Yeah. So, I always like to say what what my methodology is.
Oh, good. Because I was going to talk about this, too.
Okay.
I bet it's very similar to the road trip,
maybe.
Okay. Go.
So, man, I was thinking about these and I was like, well, I can think of warm weather songs and warm weather songs, right?
And then I'm like, how do how am I sure these are summer songs? Okay. So, I said, what's the opposite of summer? Christmas.
Okay. So, us all being number guys, I'd look at the the predictive derivative qualities of reciprocal numbers as it relates to um you know what it can illuminate in terms of highlighting the most summer song. So, you got the equation.
Yeah.
Okay. So, okay.
So, I'm like what song would I never listen to at Christmas? Okay.
That was
that was how I was like, okay, so if it I would never listen to it here, it's a summer song. Okay.
Okay. So, let me Would you ever listen to Monster Mash during Christmas?
No. But
is that then a summer song?
No, but it's closer in my analysis.
Go ahead.
Bombastic by Shaggy, right? That's a summertime jam.
Okay. Boomastic. But
Mr. Loa Loba.
Um, is that is he the guy that did the thong song? No,
that'sisco.
That's Cisco.
Uh, Shaggi is the naked.
Wasn't me. It wasn't me.
Yeah.
Yeah. But we're not talking about it wasn't me. We're talking about Boomastic.
Specifically Bombastic.
That's a different song.
Yeah.
Okay. Um, fun story about I think it's the thong song. There were one of the other Shaggy or a Shaggy song. I can't remember which, but Ginger
Oh boy,
my beautiful fiance Ginger
got a ticket and had to go to Kids Court.
You know about Kids Court? I thought it was a uh show on Nickelodeon, but no, this is something they do in Ohio. Oh, I thought she got like a like a infraction, like a legal infraction.
She did.
Okay.
And had to go to kids court.
This is when she was This was high school.
Oh, okay. I was thinking recent.
I'm pretty sure it was high school. Um, and so it was like a whole like a whole thing. I mean, in my mind, I can't separate it from like a Nickelodeon, you know, people's court type thing with Linda Ellerby.
Whoa. Where did I pull that name from? I don't know,
man. That was good. Um, but she had to get up and sing either the thong song or some shaggy song.
I'm I don't remember why
this is a court of law.
I'm so confused.
So, yes, they just
I found it very confusing.
Embarrass the kids
kind of. Yeah, I guess.
Instead of like scared straight, it's embarrassed straight.
We're going to humiliate you to show you the straight path of life.
I think it depends. is you either go to a tour of the prison and all the inmates bark at you
or you have to sing, you know, whatever hit of the day is.
That's odd.
It was It's odd. Yeah,
I did scared straight.
You did scared straight?
Yeah, we'll save that for another
Did you save some lives?
Huh?
Did you save some lives?
They saved mine.
Oh, I thought you were saying like you were trying to convince kids not to be a musician.
You start off with the booze crew story. Do you want to be chasing symbols down the side of a boat? No. Stay in school, kid. Don't capsize your life.
Okay. We got Boom Basting by Shaggy.
Uh Roman, I told you to have two. You got one?
Yeah, I got one.
I'm interested on the youth's perspective here. You're by far the youngest person we've ever had on the show.
I'm glad to be. Uh I'll do uh Venture Highway. uh by America.
I love that song.
Gosh darn it.
That's so disappointing.
I thought it was going to be a song I don't even know.
I know.
I think he's pandering to our age.
You are too.
No, that's that's probably one of my top two. Yeah.
Good sir, man. Highway.
I didn't even think about I thought you'd come in with something.
You could also say that that's a road trip song, but you could sure. Um.
All right. Well, all right. Ventura Highway by America. That's a good one. They did Horse with No Name.
Yeah, that's I'd say that's Horse with No Name is more of a road trip song than Ventura Highway.
Yeah. Been through the desert. That's kind of, you know,
that'd be a great Southwest.
I like to do a mashup and just been through Ventura Highway on a horse with my name.
That's how I do it.
Yeah.
Christopher, what do you got?
Um, I'm going Sunshine by Atmosphere. It was the first song on the playlist. Yeah,
I listened to that song and I got to tell you, I really liked it.
Oh, oh, boy. What's happening over there? Stop.
That was the the Zack Brown man. Sorry about that.
Uh, that atmosphere song was great.
Yeah.
And it actually references one of mine.
Summertime.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
Well, I guess I'll go.
I'm gonna go with Summertime by The Fresh Prince and DJ. Yep.
Jizzy Jeff. Uh, that's classic. I mean, it's hard to put that on and not feel like you're at a barbecue.
Yeah.
Yeah. It's a great song. Remember when uh Will Smith got up and slapped Chris Rock across the face?
Yeah, I heard about it.
Yeah. Uh, I remember my uh brother telling me about one of his friends who called uh Will Smith's form of rap bubblegum rap.
Chris, you heard about this this bubblegum rap?
I can I can I can imagine what that's describing.
Yeah. Well, I think it's describing Will Smith's general.
I feel like the slap on Chris Rock was his attempt to
street cred. He was trying to get some street cred. Yeah. What is he doing now?
You know
what is Will Smith up to these days?
He did a great documentary.
Is that right?
Yeah. I I just watched it was on Disney. He did a documentary where he goes to the like furthest most extreme places on Earth. And um the whole thing it's wonderful. He goes to Antarctica and like down in these deep creasses and Patagonia and things like that. U but a lot of it is his like reselfdiscovery after that event
and like how he was so embarrassed and so ashamed and trying to trying to like just get his life back in focus.
Good for him.
Yeah. So that's what he's doing.
I've heard about that.
Yeah, it's really good.
I hear slaps
as the youth say.
Uh all right. So we've got Boom Bastic Ventura Highway. What was yours called? atmosphine.
Sunshine.
Sunshine. That's a great one.
And then I said summertime. All right. How I want to talk about my methodology because I thought this is where you were going. There's basically when I think of like a summer jam, I think of either a song that um talks about summertime. Like so summertime is in the
okay
the title, right? So it's about summertime. It's about things you're doing in the summertime. So, you know, water, you're playing on the water
or you're on the beach, whatever. Or the other other songs that aren't necessarily about summer, about summer activities, but they have like a vibe, a certain vibe I like.
Yeah.
That's like good for summer. So, those were my two
No, that makes sense.
criteria.
That makes sense.
So, summertime for me was obviously about summertime. What do you got? I think my next one is a mix of both of those.
Okay.
Under the Boardwalk by the Drifters.
I put that one on there, too, and then I was like, "Oh, Tyler already beat me to it." Yeah,
that's a great one.
I mean, it has, you know,
Under the Boardwalk.
It's obviously, you know, kind of the beach and
summertime stuff.
So, I went with that one.
That's great.
I love that. All right, Roman, are we back to you?
Yes. Uh, I'll do uh It's kind It's a I don't know if you guys know it's called
Cut you off right here. If you come back with some classic rock nonsense.
It's yak rock. Um, yach rock.
Oh man.
Okay.
Um, sharing the night together by Dr. Hook.
What?
It's a
Did you pump him with this answer, Chris?
I'm not I'm not familiar with that particular summer jam.
Uh, that would be mine.
Okay. What is it? Spending the night together.
Spending the night together by Dr. Hook. I got that song from a uh from an episode or not an episode, sorry. Uh the uh there's like a a sequel for Breaking Bad
and you better call Saul.
Uh it's it's actually a movie called El Camino and they played that song when they were driving down the road, which is kind of funny because you could say it's a road trip song, too. But I don't know, it reminds me of summer just the the the instruments and stuff. ending the night to get. We got to get that on the uh the list.
It's a good song.
I know a Dr. Hook song. What's their big one?
You know what I'm talking about.
When you're in love with uh
That's not what I'm thinking.
Oh, no. Sharing the night together. Not spending the night together.
Sharing the night.
Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sharing.
Okay. Uh no. What's Oh, on the Rolling Stone cover. I think that's Dr. Hook.
Cover of the Rolling Stone.
Cover the Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone. I think that's Dr. Hook. Yes, it is.
Yeah,
that's one I was thinking of. All right, sharing the night together again. I mean, not even
not even 90s.
I can go.
You didn't even come.
Song came out in 78.
78.
I was just born.
Oh man, this is I'm This is going to reflect poorly in your intern evaluations. Okay,
I'm sorry. I don't say it. All right, Chris, give me yours.
Uh, I'm going with In the Summertime by Jerry.
It's a great one. That's the first one I thought of, but I was like, I don't know. Is that too on the nose?
No, I love that song. I think it's great.
It's so interesting. That was the first one I added to the list because it's the first one I thought of.
Yeah.
Um, but it's got like such a I feel like so many of the noises in there are being made with just his voice, his mouth.
Yeah. ch.
Maybe that's definitely I think so.
If you listen to it with headphones on, it's like that has to be him going.
And then there's all these other little weird
Yeah.
things going on there. But so it's interesting.
It has that jangly almost ragtime piano. Yep.
Yeah. That's the part I like the most.
Yeah. It sounds like honestly it sounds like even his name sounds like a muppet. Sounds like something Muppets would come up with. Jerry
in the summer time. All right. Yeah, I think it's a great one. All right, my next one. Chris played a little bit of it. Hope we don't get in trouble. Um, we're not going to get in trouble, don't worry.
Um, Jump Right In by the Zack Brown Band.
Okay.
Parents love that song.
Who does?
Parent. My parents, they love Zack Brown.
Demerit,
man. Keep digging that hole a little bit deeper, don't you? U Yeah. Well, I love it. And here's why I love it. It's got uh great summer energy, great summertime imagery, and it's musically interesting. Lots of percussion going on. And then the vocal harmonies, which is uh what I love about it is solid. Jump right in. All right. There's a lot of great songs on the list. These are ones we're surface. Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
And what are your summertime favorites? Put them in the comments out there in the listening world. We came up with our list of eight. Boomastic by Shaggy. Ventura Highway by America. Sunshine by Atmosphere. Summertime. Summer summertime by your boy DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Under the Boardwalk by the
Drifters.
Drifters. Sharing the Night Together by Dr. hook in the summertime by Jerry. Is it or I think I initially searched when I was trying to find it. Uh, and then Jump Right In by Zack Gran. All right, let's whittle this down to a top five.
Uh, Captain Hook's got to go.
It's got to go. I don't even know it.
That's the only reason. I'm sorry, Roman. I just don't know. I I I I I should have picked one that was more uh mainstream, I guess,
or contemporary. Gosh, I brought you in today because I wanted the the youth's perspective, and you're over here giving me Ventura Highway.
I mean,
and Dr. Hook, Dr. Hook hasn't been relevant since 1982,
20 years before you were born.
Wait, more than that,
I say it's got to be a little more than that.
Yeah.
Oh, man. All right. All right. We're sharing the night together. It's out. Dr. Hook, get out of here.
It's all right.
All right. Um, I don't know about this. Boomastic by Shaggy. I really I feel like I need to hear that to make a
Well, I put it on the the playlist. You could have
It was so long. I barely I couldn't get through it.
All right, let let's look at it. The ones that we know need, let's do that.
Like Jerry and got to be on there.
Yes, agreed.
I'm going to say the Zack Brown's got to stay, too. That's That's a great song. I love the violin in that one.
I do too.
I don't know if it's
coming up. He's He's starting to get some points back.
I know. I don't know if it's a first round, you know, obvious one. Summertime DJ Jesse Jeff probably can stay on there.
I think so. Yeah,
that's too
I feel like Jump Right In is not a firstrounder. It's more like a It's more like the Robert Ary of this list, you know?
Yeah.
Good sixth man.
Yeah, I'd say that. Okay.
Um, Under the Boardwalk, I feel like pretty solid.
That's a great top three right there.
Yeah.
Okay, we need two more. I I mean, I like that Sunshine song a lot. I was surprised by how much I liked it. I don't know if it stays because it's such a deep cut, but I don't want to get rid of it just yet. Ventura Highway, if I'm honest, I I don't know it all that well.
It's a good tune. A good tune. I know I've probably heard it, but I I can't hear it in my head right now.
What's it up against?
We've got left. We've got Boomastic, Ventura Highway, Sunshine, and Jump Right In.
Sunshine, the deep cut does have 79 million streams on. Wow. Spotify.
Good for him. Good for atmosphere.
Mhm.
Guys, I think we've
What's jump right in have?
Stand by. got 79 million streams for Sunshine by Atmosphere. Comparatively speaking, Zack Brown with Jump Right In. Look, it's got a little whistle in it. That's just fun. Like a lifeguard.
Oh, yeah.
Guys, we miss I think if we made this list again, it'd be entirely different.
Oh, I think so, too.
Like,
there were so Give me some of your uh
Margaritaville.
I say I was going to say a Jimmy Buffett song, too.
Yeah, you got like Beach Boys. Anything?
Oh my gosh. Cooko.
Forgot about the Beach Boys.
Um,
I put Good Vibrations on there and God only knows.
Jump right in. Is
any Bob Marley?
Oh, Three Little Birds. Oh my gosh. For some reason
was on my list. Um,
I put um Center Field by John Fogerty in there because Summertime and Baseball like just goes together.
Yep.
Uh, do you guys know Slightly Slightly Stupid?
Sure.
One of their songs would be a good one.
I was trying to think of like Sublime. Use that one. Uh for I think you probably use that for the road trip song.
Santaia.
No. Uh
summertime.
Is that what it's called?
Yeah. Do Well, there there's is called Doing Time.
Doing Time. Yeah.
Yeah, that's a
What do we got on streams for,
you know,
Jump Right In?
Jump Right In is not in the top 10 of the Zack Brown band, so I'm not seeing their streams.
Okay.
On Spotify.
All right, fair enough.
Saturday in the Park, Chicago.
Oh, sick.
I think it was the 4th of July. Okay,
I know it's so hard. Yeah,
there's so many good songs out there.
I usually feel like we have a pretty representative list. I don't think our list this time is
I think our top three are great.
Yeah,
I think that's in anybody's
Yeah, I think the rest could be replaced by 25 other songs.
This is a tough It's a tough one
because there's so many so many genres that it could pull from so many decades.
Mhm.
Um like I actually put a a hip-hop song on here, too.
What' you put on there?
California love.
Love it.
Just sounds summertime to me.
I can see clearly now. The rain is gone.
Mhm.
There's so many.
Yeah.
Should have added uh Blue Skies by Willie Nelson. Yeah, that one.
I'm gonna add it right now.
Okay, while you're at it, add Blue Sky by Almond Brothers Band. I'm gonna put that on there.
I feel bad we have to
I know we got to cut something here.
Could we make it the Hamco live top 10?
I would Well, we got the playlist, but I mean, if the goal is to narrow this down to five, I don't know. I'm I think Jump Right In's gonna go on this list.
Okay.
I think if you put some other songs on there, Jump Right In's not in.
Yep.
But as we have it, I got to put Jump Right In there.
Yeah.
That leaves Sunshine, Ventura Highway, or Bombastic.
Got to vote against Bombastic.
Okay.
So, Ventura or Sunshine?
Sunshine. It's probably Sunshine just because it's more on the nose than
Yeah.
Okay.
Ventura Highway.
Okay. I'm with Roman.
Good point, intern.
Again, just speak when spoken to.
I'm only going to say that one more time.
Okay.

Trivia brought to you by Rudy's Recycle Shop off of State Road 19 in Cicero, Indiana. Go see your boy Joe Rudy if you need a new bike or if your bike needs some repairs.
Go to Rudy's Recycle Shop in Cicero, Indiana. Check them out at rudy's reccycleop. com. Christopher, let's play some trivia. Trivia. We're playing trivia.
Trivia. Trivia. Trivia. Trivia. All right. Again, this week's trivia brought to you by Rudy's Recycle Shop.
Check it out at rudy's reccyclehop. com. All right. Our genre or sorry the trivia question category category is yacht rock.
Okay.
Yacht rock. So Roman, how this works is you're going to place a bet. You've got between one and 30 points, you're actually missing some points because I once you use once the guest uses 30, they can't use 30 again.
Okay. So, you get to place a bet based on your knowledge of the category yacht rock, which oddly seems like you're very familiar with for reasons I don't understand.
My father. That's
good parenting.
That's good. Yeah. Good for him. All right. So, write down a uh a uh here you go. Give you a piece of paper. You can write down your bet on that. I'm I don't know a lot about yacht rock. Actually, I don't know because I don't know what yacht rock is.
It's a I feel like it's a very not divisive, but uh broad genre. You could you could classify different bands as yacht rock. Well, that's what I mean. Classic rocks.
I also think it's divisive, too. Like my dad was like that was his era.
And when I told him the term yacht rock, he found it offensive,
right?
Because he's like, "It's just good music. We didn't listen to it on yachts,
right?" Yeah. Like, where did that term come from? Yeah,
but I feel like it has gotten broader. I feel like when the term started out, it was
a small subset of a larger genre or a larger
Yeah, it was it was like soft pop rock of the mid70s to early 80s or something like that.
But now I feel like like the Doobie brothers probably get lumped in with yacht rock and I would not say that they're yacht rock.
I know.
Or Chicago might get Yep.
lumped in there. That's not really That's not what I think of when I think of yacht rock. I think of like uh
Kenny Kenny Loggins. Uh maybe Seals and Croft.
Yeah, Seals and Coft. Ambrosia.
Yeah, that's that's probably good.
Yeah.
Bread.
Bread.
Who sung like Baby Come Back? Like uh
Baby Come Back.
That's That's very
Yep.
Yeah. I don't know who s that.
I hope that's not the trivia question.
It is either.
All right. Anyways, let's get to it. Everybody got their points locked in? Yep.
Here's the question. Comedian Chvy Chase played drums in a band called Leather Canary. Upon leaving this band, the other two remaining members formed this band in Los Angeles in 1971. Let me read that again. Comedian Chvy Chase played drums in a band called Leather Canary. Upon leaving this band, the other two remaining members formed this band in Los Angeles in 1971. Let's go ahead and write down your answer. I think I know this one because I heard it somewhere at some point in my life. One of those random things that No,
can I use?
Thank you. Thank you.
Chris, how do you feel about this?
Uh, weak to to very weak.
Weak to very weak. Chris's knowledge of yacht rock is not great. His knowledge of drum line music is off the charts.
Yeah.
All right, let's go around the horn here. Well, Christopher, I know you're not confident, but uh what do you got?
I've got a guess.
How many points did you bet first of all?
Four.
Four. So, you from the get-go, you're like, I don't know much about yacht rock.
That's correct.
All right. What was your guess?
Fog hat.
Fog hat. I don't know that they were yacht rock. I don't know either.
Yeah, it's like fog horn would have been good. Yacht rock.
Did you make that noise with your mouth?
I did. That was incredible. I thought he pressed the button.
I was about to press
Can we sample that?
I was about to press the crickets button, but he beat me to it.
Man, I came in there pretty strong with the vog horn.
Mhm. Mhm.
My trumpet's pretty on point, too.
Let's hear it.
It's No way. You got to wait till somebody gets one right and then do a Oh, that was good. That's basically my trumpet. You really took the wind out of my sales on that one. Speaking of wind out of the sales, yacht rock, what do you got?
Hollowotes.
Hollaotes. How many points did you bet?
10.
10. When did Holl I feel like they're an 80s band, but maybe they started back in the 70s. I have no idea.
That's what I was thinking.
Yeah, I don't know. 10. Okay. Rowan, what do you got?
I uh I put 10. I uh I put 10. I thought I could get it, but um I This is basically a throwaway vote or throwaway. Um, I said Masayoshi Takanaka. He is a Japanese yacht rock artist and he's also from the 80s and 90s. So, you know, it's
So, you feel like Chvy Chase played drums with Masayyoki Takanaka?
No,
Takawa.
No, I do not. But, um, he was he's probably my favorite out of all the yacht rocks, so I just put his name. I I'll I'll lose 10 points over it. It's fine. It's fine.
I think you just wanted to say his name. Well, I feel pretty good about this. Uh, mostly because I know Chvy Chase more than this band, but I bet 15. Went right down the middle. I said Steely Dan and I'm pretty sure he played
really.
Yeah.
Let's see.
Scroll down for the answer. Well, well, troops, I'll go ahead and take 15 points off your hands. Steely Dan,
do your trumpet. I didn't know Chvy was such an accomplished drummer.
I didn't either. I mean, he must be very good because Steely Dan is like world class
musicians. That's what Steve Lucther, he and Steely Dan. No, he was Toto.
Yeah.
Who am I thinking of? Anyways,
have you guys seen the uh the Chvy Chase documentary? I'm Chvy Chase and you're not?
No, but I'd like
It's really good. Uh, I think it's on I can't remember what it's on. Hulu, maybe. Uh, it's really good. Um, me and my dad are big Chvy Chase fans. We like the like the very quick uh I guess witty kind of responses to things.
I think he's hilarious.
He's hilarious.
Again, I I want to say speak when spoken to.
Okay.
Sorry. Sorry.
Speaking of quick witty responses. Uh, no, I'm kidding. That's good. Uh, your dad's done a good job. introduce you to some good music, good comedy. Good for him. Well done.
By the way, uh Baby Comeback
Baby Come Back was by the Players.
Baby Come Back.
And Hollow Note started in 72.
I was close.
Yeah.
Their abandoned lunchonet album I love. I think that was like 74 or something. So, I know they go back far, but
I put one of their songs on the playlist. Uh
forget which one. Anyways, all right. That's all for trivia. Thank you again to Joe Rudy for supplying the trivia. Let's go to what are you listening to? All right. What are you listening to?
Oh boy. So, this is an interesting week for me. I was You ever have those weeks where like none of the music you turn on lands, right?
Mhm.
Like you just you have all the options in the world. You can select from the entire catalog of music history and you just can't find anything. So, I was like, "All right, I'm I'm getting off music this year or this week." and I started listening to an audio book and it was a book that I've read a number of times years and years ago. Uh it's Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck. It's the sequel to Canary Row.
Okay.
Um I was going to listen to Canary Row, but they were going to make me pay for it, so I was like,
"No, thank you."
Yeah. So, Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck, and I forgot how much I loved his writing. I've never listened to one of his books. I've I've read him. Uh, so it was interesting to hear the the person reading the story and how they voiced the different characters.
Uh, so that's what I've been listening to.
Interesting.
Yeah.
So Steinbeck doesn't read it.
No. No.
How's he doing?
Uh, that's good. Of Mice and Men, I say is my favorite book of all time. Yeah.
Interesting.
Yeah. You read Of Mice and Men? You used to read that as sophomores.
Yeah. It's a high school
Yeah.
kind of thing.
Yeah. Yeah, I didn't I didn't I my sophomore book was uh Great Gatsby. So
yeah, I remember doing that one too.
Yeah, I did I taught in student teaching I taught of Men and then when I had sophomores I taught them uh what was that? We did Glass Castle and then junior year I taught The Crucible. So anyways,
I think we did The Crucible as well. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah,
that's sort of standard fair.
Okay. What are you listening to, Roman?
Um, as in by generally?
Yeah. What are you listening to? What's fresh on your playlist?
Let me let me go. Let's see.
We'll come back to you.
All right.
Chris, what are you listening to?
I was listening to this very interesting album that I got recently called Drum Corpse.
Drum Corpse.
Drum corpse. It's not
Drumcrum Corpor, but Drum Corpse Corporations of Drums. No, as in dead like the body.
Zombie corpse. A zombie drum line.
Corpse.
Zombie drum line sounds awesome.
That used to be their name. Zombie drum line.
Did it?
Yep.
I'm not familiar with their work.
No. Okay. What kind of music is Zombie Corpse? No, I mean, what is it called? Drum Corps.
Drum Corpse. Drum Corps is drumcore music over uh recorded sounds from live protests. It's better than it sounds. I promise.
I think it would have to be. I think it'd be unlistable if it's not.
It's not. It's really really easy to listen to.
Okay. I find it
you. So people are protesting. You're like, "Oh, that's easy to listen to."
That's good.
That hits the spot.
Yeah. Give it a shot.
Who needs Yas flute when I have the sounds of protest
and drummers in the drum line.
I love Chris's picks.
All right. What do you got? Um, do you guys know the Crystals?
The who? Billy Crystal Crystals. Uh,
Crystals.
Uh, I think they're like a, you know, we'll
No. Is that like a doo-op kind of
There's a song that they play. It's one of their songs they play in in Good Fellas. Uh, it's one of the scene, it's the scene where he's takes his uh like date through the uh through the restaurant so he can
the long shot.
Yeah, the long shot. One of like the coolest shots in the movie. So, it's it's that they play that song over that shot. And uh I was like that's a really cool song. So um I want to use that one.
Um
so you went back 50 years again for your selection.
You went back another 50 years from Ventura Highway.
I got another one. Um
nope. You only get one.
Okay. All right.
The Crystals.
The Crystals. Huh.
Okay.
All right. I bet they were contemporaries of the coasters
and the drifters.
And the drifters.
The coasters is somebody though. Se not not coasters but coasters. Yeah, you're coasting.
Yeah,
you get it. All right.
Uh, what am I listening to? I've been listening to the Coasters a lot.
Uh, no, actually in as I was kind of like preparing for this, I remember um I don't know. I missed I guess I was in high school. I don't know when this came out to be honest, but I remember listening to this a lot and I felt like I was listening to it in the summer, but uh it was White Clef Jean's Carnival Yeah.
album.
So I went back and I started listening to that again. um that has Gunpowder on it.
Loved that song.
It's got Gone Till November.
Gone Till November.
What else does it have on there?
Uh Bubbly, what's that called? Bubbly Bubbly Goose. Bubbly Goose is on there. Um it's got the one where they sample Staying Alive.
That's right. That was the big hit off that.
Um there was Yeah, that was the big hit. Well, I think maybe Gone Till November.
Yeah, that was a that was a really big one. Well, that's the show for this week. Thanks for hanging out. Hamcolive.com.
