The Making of Umi Grill
In 2001, Terre Haute welcomed its first-ever Japanese restaurant. Umi Grill, formally known as Sushi Umi, is a dining experience that offers more than gourmet dishes. They provide customers with Japanese education while creating an authentic ambiance. After the owners realized their restaurant offered more than just raw fish and sushi, they replaced the word “sushi” with “grill,” creating Umi Grill. The word “umi,” meaning ocean, was kept to pay homage to the traditional roots of seafood in Japanese culture.
Umi Grill continues to expand its menu and clientele. Fresh sashimi and sushi, house-prepared soups and salads, and signature entrées are just a few of the many options you can find on their menu. It's one of the many reasons Terre Haute continues to grow as a destination for Hoosiers across the state.
