A new kind of Main Street hangout has landed in Speedway, and it runs on espresso and craft beer. Speedway City Garage, the much-anticipated collaboration between Founders Grounds Coffee Company and Pax Verum Brewing Company, is opening inside the old Rosner Pharmacy building at 1552 N Main Street. The concept is simple and very Hoosier: coffee in the morning, cocktails and Indiana craft beer at night, all under one roof a few blocks from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The timing is no accident. Speedway City Garage is rolling out its full opening in April, right as the town starts buzzing for the Indy 500 Month of May. If you've been looking for a new reason to spend a Saturday on Main Street before race weekend, you just got one.
A Speedway landmark gets a second act
The Rosner Building at 1552 Main Street has been a part of Speedway's history for more than a century. The building was constructed in 1915 by Joseph Rosner, and for decades it housed Rosner's Pharmacy, one of the oldest commercial storefronts on the stretch of Main Street between 15th and 16th. Now that the pharmacy is long gone, the space is coming back to life as the heart of a new kind of neighborhood gathering spot.
Founders Grounds has been pouring coffee in Speedway since 2021, when it opened a 1,100 square foot shop at 1414 Main Street. Speedway City Garage is a short walk north of that original location, and the combined operation will cover roughly 4,000 square feet. That's enough room for a cafe, a full taproom, and the kind of shared seating that makes this type of dual-concept work.

Racing heritage, built into the bones
The team behind Speedway City Garage has been clear from day one that this is a love letter to the town's racing history. In the announcement shared on social media, the owners said the space "honors the rich racing heritage of our community while offering a welcoming space to gather, relax, and enjoy the best of both worlds."
That matches what Speedway has been doing with its Main Street revitalization over the last decade. Local shops, restaurants, and breweries have leaned into the identity of the town, and Speedway City Garage fits right into that story. If you've followed the evolution from the highway to the Speedway, you already know how much the area has changed for residents and visitors alike.
Two Indiana beverage brands, one roof
What makes Speedway City Garage worth the drive is the pairing itself. You get two established Indiana operations under one roof, each doing what they're already known for.
Founders Grounds brings its neighborhood-favorite espresso program, pastries, and the kind of quick service that earned it a loyal following in just a few years on Main Street. Pax Verum, based in Lapel, Indiana, has been brewing since early 2018 and is best known for its Speedway City IPA, a beer literally inspired by the Indianapolis 500. The Lapel taproom will stay open, so Pax Verum regulars aren't losing anything. They're just gaining a second home closer to the track.

Owners have described Speedway City Garage to the Indianapolis Business Journal as a "coffee-to-cocktails destination." In practice, that means you can swing by for a latte and a breakfast pastry in the morning, then come back after a day at the Speedway for a Speedway City IPA or a cocktail without switching neighborhoods.
When Speedway City Garage opens
Speedway City Garage held a soft opening in late March 2026, welcoming longtime Founders Grounds customers and Pax Verum fans into the new space. The full grand opening is targeted for April, which puts it right in stride with the buildup to the Indianapolis 500.
For Hoosiers planning around Month of May in Indy, that's a meaningful addition to the Main Street lineup. Speedway is already a walkable stretch of local spots, and adding a combined cafe and taproom to the mix means one more reason to show up early, stay late, and explore the area between race events.
How to visit
Speedway City Garage is located at 1552 N Main Street, Speedway, IN 46224. The space is a few blocks north of the original Founders Grounds location at 1414 Main Street, and only a short walk from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's Gate 1. Parking is available along Main Street and in nearby public lots, and the whole area is designed to be explored on foot once you're there.
If you're heading out for the Indy 500 or one of Speedway's other spring events, it's worth building Speedway City Garage into your plan along with local mainstays. Check the ongoing Speedway Main Street calendar and the full Month of May lineup in Indy before you go, especially if you're visiting during race weekend when the whole town is packed.
