A new kind of Main Street hangout has landed in Speedway, and it runs on espresso and craft beer. Speedway City Garage, the much-anticipated collaboration between Founders Grounds Coffee Company and Pax Verum Brewing Company, is opening inside the old Rosner Pharmacy building at 1552 N Main Street. The concept is simple and very Hoosier: coffee in the morning, cocktails and Indiana craft beer at night, all under one roof a few blocks from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The timing is no accident. Speedway City Garage is rolling out its full opening in April, right as the town starts buzzing for the Indy 500 Month of May. If you've been looking for a new reason to spend a Saturday on Main Street before race weekend, you just got one.
A Speedway landmark gets a second act
The Rosner Building at 1552 Main Street has been a part of Speedway's history for more than a century. The building was constructed in 1915 by Joseph Rosner, and for decades it housed Rosner's Pharmacy, one of the oldest commercial storefronts on the stretch of Main Street between 15th and 16th. Now that the pharmacy is long gone, the space is coming back to life as the heart of a new kind of neighborhood gathering spot.
Founders Grounds has been pouring coffee in Speedway since 2021, when it opened a 1,100 square foot shop at 1414 Main Street. Speedway City Garage is a short walk north of that original location, and the combined operation will cover roughly 4,000 square feet. That's enough room for a cafe, a full taproom, and the kind of shared seating that makes this type of dual-concept work.

Racing heritage, built into the bones
The team behind Speedway City Garage has been clear from day one that this is a love letter to the town's racing history. In the announcement shared on social media, the owners said the space "honors the rich racing heritage of our community while offering a welcoming space to gather, relax, and enjoy the best of both worlds."
That matches what Speedway has been doing with its Main Street revitalization over the last decade. Local shops, restaurants, and breweries have leaned into the identity of the town, and Speedway City Garage fits right into that story. If you've followed the evolution from the highway to the Speedway, you already know how much the area has changed for residents and visitors alike.
