A Legacy of Speed
Opened in 1947, Salem Speedway has been a cornerstone of auto racing in Indiana for nearly 80 years. Its 0.555-mile paved oval and 33-degree banking make for a thrilling high-speed experience that attracts top drivers and racing fans from all over. Salem has seen it all, from exciting victories to tough challenges. The track’s first race in 1947 was marked by tragedy, as two drivers lost their lives on the first lap. But the Speedway’s resilience shined through when it reopened in 1987 after a massive storm damaged the grandstands and fences in 1981. Since then, it’s had multiple owners, with the latest being former driver Nick Bohanon, who purchased the track in December 2022
