How It All Began

The story of Mallow Run begins with Bill Richardson. After graduating from Purdue with a degree in agriculture, Bill returned to his family’s farm and met his wife, Laura Emerson. They quickly bonded over a shared love of music, wine, and the farm.

Today, Mallow Run spans nearly seven acres of grapes, including cold-hardy American and hybrid varieties like Corot Noir, Brianna, and Catawba, which thrive in Indiana’s climate. These unique grapes contribute to the winery’s diverse selection, from dry reds to sweet whites and seasonal favorites.

The Heart of Mallow Run Winery

The tasting room is the heart of Mallow Run Winery. It’s located in the old hayloft barn, built around 1870 by George Mallow, John Richardson’s great-great grandfather. While a fire left most of the barn in disrepair, many of the larger beams were recycled and used to build the “new” barn.

As you walk into the tasting room, you’ll be greeted with four complimentary samples of wine, poured by knowledgeable and friendly staff who are eager to share the stories behind each bottle. The tasting staff provides a perfect blend of education and experience. Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or a curious first-timer, expect to learn something new and fall in love with their huge wine selection.

Mallow Run Hours

Mallow Run is open daily from noon to 6 p.m. During warmer months, the winery hosts its Picnic Concert Series, held on most Saturdays from late May through mid-September. Guests can sip wine outdoors and enjoy live music with friends and family.

Mallow Run FAQs

Is Marrow Run 21+ only?

Mallow Run is a family-friendly winery; however, they do ask that special supervision be considered in the tasting room. Children and guests under 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and must be supervised at all times while at the winery.

Do I need a reservation for the wine tasting?

Reservations are not required nor accepted. All wine tastings are first come, first served at the bar in the tasting room, and they are absolutely free! All you need is a valid, non-expired ID.

Is there food available to purchase?

While Mallow Run does not have a restaurant, they do have assorted cheeses, cheese plates, and charcuterie boxes, among other snacks for sale in the tasting room. They also allow you to bring your own snacks, food, and non-alcoholic beverages.

From its blend of history, heart, and Hoosier hospitality, Mallow Run Winery is a central Indiana destination worth discovering.
