After undergoing a major transformation, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) Museum officially reopened its doors on April 2, 2025, following a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony. Closed since November 2023 for renovations, the museum now provides visitors with a refreshed and expanded experience that honors the rich history of racing at IMS.

The museum’s transformation brings a whopping 40,000 square feet of new exhibit space, plus access to areas that were previously off-limits. This expanded space now features an even bigger collection of non-vehicular artifacts, some of which have never been seen before! Plus, visitors can dive into immersive experiences like the "Qualifying Zone," where you can test your racing skills and get a taste of what qualifying looks like for Indy 500 hopefuls.
In addition to the permanent displays, the IMS Museum also features rotating exhibitions that offer a deeper look at the history of racing. Currently, visitors can explore the following:
Best of the Best: The Four-Time Winners

Only four drivers have achieved the prestigious feat of being a four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500: A.J. Foyt, Al Unser, Rick Mears and Helio Castroneves. This exhibition highlights these racing legends, showcasing their winning cars, racing suits, helmets and other relevant artifacts.NASCAR at the Speedway

This exhibition features eight iconic Brickyard 400-winning cars, including Jeff Gordon’s 1994 winner, Dale Earnhardt’s 1995 winner and Jimmie Johnson’s 2006 winner. It’s a must-see for NASCAR fans and anyone interested in the history of racing at IMS.
