BioBond Adhesives: Indiana’s Plant-Based Innovation
We just got back from a trip to Lafayette and it did not disappoint. Not only did we get to eat at the Clubhouse at the Ackerman-Allen Course, we also got to meet the crew from BioBond Adhesives.
BioBond Adhesives is an Indiana-based startup redefining the adhesives and coatings industry with plant-based, biopolymer solutions. Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Lafayette, BioBond is tackling the challenge of replacing petroleum-based products with greener alternatives. The company operates both its headquarters and R&D laboratories in Lafayette, positioning itself at the center of Indiana’s innovation ecosystem.
Funding and Partnerships
BioBond benefits from strong backing and industry partnerships. It is a portfolio company of the Generation Food Rural Partners (GFRP) Fund, managed by Big Idea Ventures (BIV), a global investment firm focused on agri-tech and bioeconomy startups. Beyond investment, BioBond collaborates with organizations such as the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, AgriNovus Indiana, Greater Lafayette Commerce, and the USDA Rural Development program. A key element of its innovation pipeline comes from a licensing partnership with Purdue University’s Office of Technology Commercialization, which provides access to groundbreaking biomaterial research.
Products and Market Applications
BioBond has rolled out several product lines targeting diverse industries:
BioAdhere™
Launched in February 2025, the BioAdhere™ line serves cabinetry, furniture, wallpaper, and engineered wood sectors. These adhesives are USDA BioPreferred-certified, odor-free, microplastic-free, and competitively priced with traditional solvent-based products.
Protective Coatings
In early 2025, BioBond introduced biobased protective coatings for the food processing and distribution industry. These products provide microbial protection against mold and fungi while offering a safer, odor-free, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional coatings.
BioMelt™
In July 2025, BioBond entered the $9.5 billion hot melt adhesive packaging market with its BioMelt™ series. These plant-based adhesives are designed for large-scale packaging applications and will be commercially available by late 2025.
