The Indianapolis 500 is the world's oldest major automobile race and the cornerstone of the NTT IndyCar Series. Held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1911, it draws more than 300,000 fans every Memorial Day weekend and is the unofficial start of summer for Hoosiers.

The field is 33 cars in 11 rows of three, running 200 laps at better than 230 mph for the Borg-Warner Trophy. Ray Harroun won the first one in 1911 in the Marmon Wasp. Race week runs on its own traditions: Carb Day and the Pit Stop Challenge, the Snake Pit concert in the infield, the Bricks at the finish line, and the bottle of milk in Victory Lane.
