Teeing off on Oct. 3 and going through Oct. 6 at the beautiful French Lick Golf Course, the Korn Ferry Tour Championship will be taking place. In a field consisting of 75 of the best non-PGA Tour golfers in the world, three of the golfers have ties connecting back to the Hoosier state.
Davis Chatfield
Born in Attleboro, MA., Chatfield came to Indiana to golf at the collegiate level for Notre Dame University. During his time in South Bend, Chatfield recorded the second-lowest career stroke average in program history with a 71.49.
In his 2021 senior campaign, he helped take Notre Dame to the school's first team NCAA Regional appearance since 2012. In the same season, he finished with an aggregate score of two-under-par throughout 21 rounds — the best mark on the team.
Since his time at Notre Dame, the 25-year-old has golfed in 48 Korn Ferry events — making the cut in 38. Additionally, Chatfield boasts three top-10 finishes, one top-five and a top-three finish in his young career.
Rick Lamb
Born in South Bend, IN., the 34-year-old Lamb is in his tenth year as a pro following prep and collegiate careers at IMG Academy (FL), Santa Clara University and Tennessee University.
After transferring in from Santa Clara, Lamb finished his career with the third-lowest scoring average with a 73.03. In his senior season, Lamb would finish his impressive collegiate career with a second-place tie at the 2013 NCAA Championships.
As a pro, Lamb has made the cut in 61 of his 124 Korn Ferry events, winning the 2016 LECOM Health Championship. In 2021, Lamb finished tied for 46 at the US Open, his best finish at a major championship.
Rick has a twin brother, Jake — who also played collegiate golf at Santa Clara. Their uncle, Mark McCormack was the founder of the revolutionary International Management Group, signing all-time great golfers Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus as their first clients.
Joe Weiler
Born and raised in Bloomington, IN., Weiler is a Bloomington South alum but took his talents to Purdue University rather than the local Indiana University.
While at Bloomington South, Weiler was a three-time recipient of The Herald-Times Golf Player of The Year. During his tenure at Purdue, he received both first-team All-Big Ten and PING All-Midwest honors.
Holding a career average of 71.73 — fifth best in school history — Weiler scored par-or-better in seven consecutive rounds during his senior campaign, the third-longest streak in Boilermaker history.
As a pro, Weiler made the cut in 23 of his 45 Korn Ferry events while boasting four top-10 and runner-up finishes.
During the championship this week, Weiler and Chatfield will be in the same grouping together — along with Canadien Myles Creighton, teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
Davis Shore and Tanner Gore will join Lamb for a 9:36 a.m. start.
