An Unforgettable Evening at the Greenwood Amphitheater
Last weekend, we headed down to Johnson County to check out the Greenwood Amphitheater, and it absolutely delivered on every level. Nestled in the heart of Greenwood, this venue is a true hidden gem, offering one of the best free events in Central Indiana. The Summer and Fall concert series is in full swing, and if you haven’t experienced it yet, you’re missing out.
Summer Concert Series: Music, Brews, and a Packed House
We were there for 90 Proof, a band that brought the house down—figuratively, of course, since the amphitheater is open-air. When they launched into a cover of Luke Bryan, the energy was electric, and the crowd was all in. It was one of those performances that remind you how powerful live music can be, especially in such an intimate, community-focused setting.
Adding to the experience, we enjoyed some local flavor with a couple of brews from Oaken Barrel Brewing Co., a beloved brewpub right in Greenwood. We also couldn’t resist a glass of Vito from Mallow Run Winery, another local favorite. The combination of great music, refreshing drinks, and the friendly crowd made for a perfect evening under the stars.
Tips for Your Visit: What to Bring and What to Expect
The Greenwood Amphitheater attracts a diverse crowd, and when we say it was a packed house, we mean lawn chairs as far as the eye could see. If you plan on attending, here’s a pro tip: make sure to bring a blanket or a lawn chair. It’s an essential for getting comfortable and enjoying the show.
One of the coolest aspects of this venue is that you can bring your own cooler (no alcoholic beverages allowed), so feel free to pack your own snacks and drinks. But if you’re like us and love trying local food, don’t miss out on the food trucks parked just outside the amphitheater. We hit up Chompz for a bite, and their burger was out of this world. Just a heads-up, though—their spicy aioli is not for the faint of heart!
Upcoming Shows and Fall Concert Series
If you’re looking to catch some great music before summer ends, you’re in luck. The Summer Concert Series has three shows left:
August 3: The Big 80s
August 9: Toy Factory
August 10: That 90s Band
All of these concerts are free and start at 7 PM, making it an easy and affordable way to enjoy live music.
And the fun doesn’t stop there. Starting September 21, the Greenwood Amphitheater kicks off its Fall Concert Serieswith Midwest Rhythm Exchange. This series runs for a month and even includes an Oktoberfest celebration, offering a perfect blend of live music, fall festivities, and community spirit.
The Verdict: A Hidden Gem Worth Exploring
The Greenwood Amphitheater is more than just a concert venue—it’s a community gathering spot that offers an incredible atmosphere, excellent local food and drink options, and, best of all, free live music. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is one hidden gem in Indiana that you absolutely need to check out.
