South of Bloomington, Indiana, Bakers Junction Haunted Train is unlike most haunted attractions in the state. Located on South Fairfax Road, Bakers Junction combines old railroad cars, unusual collections, Halloween decorations, and plenty of spooky surprises to create a truly unique experience.

From Railroad Museum to Haunted Train

The story of Bakers Junction goes back to 1976, when John Baker began collecting railroad cars and pieces of railroad history. The property grew into the Bakers Junction Railroad Museum, built around historic railroad equipment, including cars connected to the former Monon Railroad.

When the railroad museum eventually closed, Baker found a new way to share the property with visitors. In 1993, he opened the Haunted Train, turning the collection into an annual Halloween attraction.

What Will You Discover?

The Haunted Train isn't your typical haunted house. Visitors make their way through old railroad cars filled with creepy displays, skeletons, dolls, oddities, and other unusual objects collected over decades. Some areas are packed with Halloween decorations, while others rely on darkness, sounds, live actors, and unexpected scares.

One of the most interesting parts is simply exploring the historic train cars themselves. The combination of authentic railroad equipment and homemade Halloween decorations gives Bakers Junction a strange, old-fashioned atmosphere that is difficult to duplicate at a modern haunted house.

Something for Younger Visitors

Families don't have to jump straight into the scariest parts. Bakers Junction also offers a Kids Train area with games and things to see without the frightening scares. Once they're ready, brave visitors can continue on to the Haunted Train.

A Bloomington Halloween Tradition

For more than 30 years, Bakers Junction Haunted Train has been part of the Bloomington area's Halloween season. Much of the attraction is a family affair, with relatives and longtime friends helping create the experience and scare visitors each fall.

If you're searching for a haunted house in Bloomington that offers something completely different, Bakers Junction Haunted Train is worth adding to your Halloween bucket list. Where else can you walk through historic railroad cars while surrounded by skeletons, strange curiosities, and Halloween scares?

Seasonal hours and admission prices can change from year to year, so check the attraction's current information before planning your visit. In 2026, they will be open every Friday and Saturday in October through Halloween.
