Beautiful morning here in the 317. Unbelievable week of football. High school football. Can't wait to get to it for week four. Spangle. You were at a high school football game.
Oh, well, I was at a high school football game and we're going to dive into it. It was a heck of a rivalry. Regardless of what any radio personality's mother has to say, it was a heck of Bowen not happy. It is still a heck of a rivalry. It was a great game all the way down to the end. What stuck out to you, Spang?
Why don't you go into some headlines for us? Let's start with the widest margin. We've been starting every episode with that. This week's widest margin, or as uh us not so fancy people call it, the biggest blowout this week. Yes. goes to our friends at North Decar.
That's the North Decar Chargers take down the Brown County Eagles. 80 to nothing. Brown County, great place to be, though. Yeah. So, you have that going for you. Great place to be.
I don't even know how many touchdowns do you have to score to get to 80. Well, 11 is 77. So, then maybe a field goal. Maybe attack on a field goal at the end. Or maybe you went for two around 80. go for two a couple times.
Like maybe I might want to see or go for two all 10 times you score. Oh, then you only need eight touchdowns versus 11. I mean, maybe they have some some analytics. 10 touchdowns times eight points. Oh, wait. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Wait, 10 touchdowns instead of 11. Sorry, we don't do public math. The other interesting 80 nothing.
We still have 47 unbeaten teams in the state of Indiana. Wow. Hanging on there. Teams without a loss that are sitting at 4-0 leading into week five here. I feel like when you're 4 and 0, I'm taking notice of you. 2 and 0, 3 and 0, it's like, okay, early you don't know what your schedule's like.
But 4 and0, I feel like 4 and 0 and then maybe two more. If you get to 6 and 0, you might be a contender. You were for sure a contender almost halfway through. Exactly. But five and one, you know, you could just be frontloaded, have an easy time. I want you to be undefeated at the six game mark and and you will all catch my attention.
Yeah. I mean both Chitaard and Cathedral tough first four games I would say very tough schedules. Yeah. Uh I mean we want to go right in there talk about the biggest games that we saw. Yeah, that game was wild. It was it was all Cathedral in the first half.
Like just was kind of shooting himself. You were there. I'm I'm interested in your perspective. I uh showed up at halftime. Okay. So I showed up and things turned around.
So second ranked in class 5A Cathedral beats number one ranked in class 4A Chitaard 16 to4 and there was a field goal controversy of sorts. Dude, I'm not a I'm not a I'm not a blame the rules, blame the ref guy. It's 13- nothing coming out of halftime. Cathedral all Cathedral 13 nothing. Chitaard gets out there and oh man they put together an incredible second half. They have like a deep interception return.
Their offense is firing. Like they're they're looking good. They score pretty early. Bill Peebles, Cathedral head coach, one win away from 150 in his career, his 22-year coaching career. Started his career at Southport, went to Lawrence Central, and has been at Cathedral since two state titles in that time. Cathedral has one instate opponent remaining.
Okay. Yes, this is what it was. So, they set the tone coming out of the second half. Jax Gidry takes another kickoff to the house. Are you serious? Yeah.
The Dude, that guy's a stud. That's two. That's two, which is insane. that I've seen that made it 13 to7. Then a huge interception that gets returned I mean past the 50 I believe somewhere in there. They just drove down the field.
It was like a 13yd pass from Harrison ODM. Brooks Haynes takes the first lead of the game. So now we're up 1413. Cathedral drives. It's a real Dude, they were just like really long drives. They get a field goal 1614.
Shitar gets the ball. Driving driving driving. Feeling good. Like cost it up. fumbles on the 20 or 30 somewhere in there. So then it's like we have 4 minutes left roughly.
Again, all approximate. So then that's rough. Yeah. Unofficial. Yeah. Then that's rough.
You're like, "Oh shoot." So then Cathedral turns around back the other way and it's uh driving a little bit and gets to a fourth down and fourth and maybe two and tries to hard count it and people on all sides were were jumping on the ball there. Gets called a false start. No, no, no. False start. backs him up five.
They have to punt it and then you have whatever I mean I don't know it was like two minutes or whatever it was chitard ball they get it down the field get to this is where it gets interesting they run a quarterback power get the ball in the right hash I don't know it was seconds left okay so they're lined up they're ready to go Cathedral burns a timeout it's probably like I think the ball was on the 20 so do the math I don't know whatever kind of field goal that was 35ish yard right in there Cathedral takes time out so you trot this high schooler out in the fourth quarter to win rivalry week down to like it's all on his foot. So, he's thinking about it. They get lined up and then they kick it, but there's a penalty. So, he makes it. He nails it from 35. From what I'm understanding, Cathedral had a pre-nap penalty.
Forced it to be a dead ball. Therefore, Chitaard could not decline the penalty. They move up 5 yards. They kick it again. They have to kick it again. There's only 6 seconds left.
He missed it. And then he misses it. Well, no. Actually, let me go this. So, it's timeout. He kicks it.
Penalty. Then they burn another timeout. So this kid has sat there and thought about this kick for for seven minutes or something. He did make the one. He made the first. There was a penalty on Cathedral.
Yes. And then he pushes it right unfortunately. Like I got to time expired. He literally has time. No way. It was Iron Chitard was jumping, man.
That place was It was a sick environment. I mean, again, it's like you got to be good. I think there's like this is the classic thing. It's like comes down to that final play, but like Chitaard had got stuffed on the one yard line. Yes, I heard that. Um after they had scored, but there was another uh a penalty there that had negated that touchdown.
So, I mean, you know, a lot of mistakes to clean up, but I am I'm excited to see how the season goes out for them. Also, Danny Adams didn't play. I just feel like that needs to be said. Danny Adams is an absolute stud and now we're hearing maybe not back until postseason time. So, that's a little upsetting because he's a stud. He is a stud and if he could play he would he will play.
So yeah I mean he's a he's a former wrestler under this guy so we know that he's tough over here. That's probably going to be one of the tougher four game stretches you're going to see that Chitaard's had this season. Okay. Lafayette Jeff Leo Ronali Cathedral. You got BBuff Garen Columbus Eastot South and Cincinnati Elder to end Chitard's season. So I don't see a lot of losses in their future honestly.
and Cathedral. Hey, clap it up for Cathedral. Seriously, because first two games I was concerned back-to-back really impressive wins out of you. And again, one more win that would be Bill Peeles's 150th in his career. Uh, we have to talk about a broken streak. Oh, please.
Yes. Can we talk about a broken streak? Shout out to our friends at Sullivan High School. They took down This is four for four talking about they took down Linton. Now, Sullivan single known Linton hater. No, not me.
Uh Sullivan had lost 10 straight to the Linton Miners. Sullivan gets the 46-7 victory. If you had told me this result 10 years ago or or I guess seven or eight years ago, that was the last time they beat them. I uh would not have believed you because that would have been a crazy result when I was covering football in West Central Indiana. Sullivan 46, Linton 7. Linton 0 and4.
I mean, people got to be pissed. Can you pull the Sullivan mascot? Um, yes I can. And it's the Golden Arrows. Yes, sir. The Golden Arrows.
Let's go. The Golden Arrows take down the miners. Uh, okay. Hey, can I talk to you about something that stuck out to me? Yeah. I need to talk about the Brownsburg Bulldogs.
I have to. Yes. People are going to be like, "Oh, 6A number one. Why are we talking about them?" Well, why aren't we talking about them? I got a chance to watch them full length this Friday.
All I needed to see Wait, your your guy didn't leave early. Uh, no. You didn't leave early. Okay. Just making sure. Well, I had to leave.
I did have to leave, but the game was at hand. Okay. They they went up 21 nothing in a matter of minutes in the first half, in the first quarter. Okay. Avon had remember we talked about Avon had only given up eight points per game. They were 3-0.
Some really impressive wins. Biggest test of the season against Brownsburg. They played him 5547 last year in the regular season. So, you think it might be close. How about 497? 420 a half from Brownsburg.
Oscar Fry and Brandon Sharp, the connection is arguably the best duo in the state. In my opinion, Brandon Sharp leader in the clubhouse for Mr. Football. I don't think it's close. I honestly don't think it's close. You can talk about Zmore from Lawrence North.
You can talk about Oscar Fry on Sharp's team and maybe some other guys that I'm missing that are having really, really nice seasons, but Brandon Sharp is electric. I think he's the best receiver in the state of Indiana. Brownsburg is averaging 44 points per game. They're absolutely mowing everybody down. I'm so intrigued by Brownsburg Westfield, a state championship rematch in two weeks. So, that's going to be really interesting.
But outside of that, they're not losing anytime soon. They are absolutely the most efficient high school football team I've ever seen. Spang, you have to go to a Brownsburg game because the crowd is electric. The entrance is They had a helicopter flyover for 9/11. Oh, that's pretty sick. It was really, really cool.
And, you know, John Hart is just an an amazing high school football coach. Brownsburg is going through a three or four year stretch that I don't know if we've really seen in high school football in a long time. You can talk about like Warren Central and Ben Davis there in the '9s and 2000s maybe or 80s. Um I know Brownsburg won backto-back state championships in ' 84 and 85. Ben Davis was a national champion in 1991 I believe. So how do you get a become a national champion in I have no idea how that works.
I think it was a way bigger deal like in the n7s8s 90s 2000s and I don't know how they like did that but hey I got to I mean Brownsburg you are incredible to watch and all of you should go to a Brownsburg home game it's a great experience the football is a plus the way they run the ball the way they throw the ball sharp I'm walking Brownsburg is a place where there's no track so you can't go behind the field and out of the sideline so you have to kind of go through the sideline to get side to side cuz you know you're going side to side as a sports anchor there, Spang. Yeah, the ball's got to be coming towards you, you see, and the camera. And I hear a Mr. Miranda. Mr. Miranda.
I'm like, who's calling me Mr. Miranda? It's Brandon Sharp on the sideline just saying what's up. During the game, very next play, he goes out one-handed 21 yard touchdown catch to become Brownsburg's all-time leading receiver. Dude's unreal. Going to IU next year.
I think Brandon Sharp's in too, huh? Brandon Sharp is. Yeah, he's going to IU. I'm telling you, he's the I think he's the best player in the state. I just That's my That's my opinion. He is.
I mean, when you're talking to IU receivers, right, we got to talk about Machin. Yeah. Like, is he injured? Like, do we have a situation? I don't know what the situation is there. I think we would we need to crowdsource information of like why I am interested to know what is going on because I haven't heard much and even the games we have gone to that Lawrence North is involved in, he's like he didn't he didn't him and Zore did not play uh this past Friday.
I don't know if it was a rest type situation or like they were dealing with some injuries or what. beat North Central, but um I just I haven't heard much from No, since that first game, I haven't seen anything. So, maybe he's nursing into getting Not only did is Sharp the all-time leading receiver at Brownsburg, but John Hart win number 100 as head coach at Brownsburg. Congratulations. He is 119 in 11 years at Brownsburg. He is 367 and 100 in 42 years of coaching overall.
That's like an over 75% winning percentage if my math is correct. Dude, wait, what schools has he been at? So, he went to Illinois for a bit um in between Warren Central and Brownsburg where he was at Evansville Wrights where he won a state championship in 2007. He was at Warren Central where he won a state championship in 2009. And now he's been at Brownsburg since 2016 and he's won backto-back state championships. So, he has four state championships in the state of Indiana.
Between 2011 and 2016, I believe he went to Illinois. Don't quote me on that. I'm pretty sure that's what happened. Just a legend. John, we got to get John Hart on the program, frankly. Like, We should bring him and Sharp on together.
Let's bring on. I think that would be great. Let's get Let's talk to this guy. Well, we we'll get him on. Yeah. Um, Mr.
Miranda. Anyway, sorry. Yeah. How about the Mr. Miranda? Come on.
You love the respect level. Can I do my South Putham? Remember we talked about how they won class 1A state championship. They get bumped up to 2A. Yes. So, everybody's like very, very excited over there.
They have one of the best defensive players in Indiana high school football. They're ranked fifth right now in class 2A. They are 4-0 and have been absolutely mowing people down. And I want to read this to you. Danny emailed us. Danny and he wants South Putham to get some shine.
So, I'd like to read this to you. I have a question for anyone covering Indiana High School football. How is South Putham not one of the biggest stories in the state right now? Wait, hold on. He he put this in an email. I have a question for anyone covering high school football, but he said it directly.
Subject subject line. South Putnham needs some love. Okay, continue. South Putham isn't simply three and 0, four-0 now. They aren't simply the defending class 1A state champs. And they aren't simply a small school program that got bumped into class 2A because of the IHSAA tournament success factor.
What South Punham has done through three games, now four, is much more ridiculous than the final scores make it look. Here's the number people need to understand. All caps. South Putham's starting varsity has essentially played six quarters of football this season. Six. Six.
Now, at this point, eight. Yeah, probably. Assuming they got pulled at halftime. Yeah. Wait, let's update this. It was 4913 over the Alyses.
There have been 12 quarters available through three football games. And after halftime of each one, South Platinum has pulled starters and turned the second half over to the JV. What experience for the JV guys by the way. Hell of a time to be a JV football player in South P. The halftime scores through three games. 49-0 470 420 138 to zero at half.
South Putnham's varsity has outscored three opposing varsity teams 138 to zero. He he's repeating a lot for emphasis. Yes, you see it's a very dramatic reading. Average halftime score 460. South Putham isn't dominating because has one great player, one great senior class. There is depth behind them.
There are younger kids getting meaningful Friday night varsity snaps because the starters keep putting games out of reach before halftime. That's six straight quarters of JV football being played in the second halves of varsity games. Meanwhile, South Penham starting varsity defense has yet to allow a point zero through the first six quarters. The starting varsity has played, opponents haven't scored. That changes the way you have to look at every statistic on this team. South Putinham is 3 and0 has outscored opponents 158 to 20, but all 20 of those points have come.
Say it with me now. After the varsity has left the game, the starters are only getting half a football to produce them. All caps. I mean, I I are we asking why are we pulling the starters? I don't know. Okay.
Then there's this Mauy Shields kid, Keenan Mauy Shields. Remember Greg Rickshaw talked to us about him. Okay. He's listed at 63. Oh, excuse me. Wait, before him.
Ty Benton is one of the premier running backs in Indiana small school football. He rushed for more than 2500 yards last season and he's producing again this year despite spending half those games watching the JV. Then there's Keenan Mauy Shields. He's listed at 6'3 235 lbs. He entered the season with Hold up on Huddle. on huddle he's 63 250 250 let it be known on the huddle that's 50 more or 15 more pounds there he entered the season with 598 career tackles after only three varsity seasons last year he recorded 251 tackles one of the highest totals in the entire nation and was named Indiana defensive player of the year dude this guy looks like he would eat my lunch is he going somewhere uh let me keep looking so he is a four these are all from his huddle he is runs a 47, bench press is 44 455 lbs on the bench press, 675 on the squat rack.
Excuse me. Excuse me. Then consider what kind of a athlete we're talking about for this Keenan Mauy Shields. Football, wrestling, track and field, state level competition, state runner up in the shot put. A 63, 235 or 250 pound linebacker with nearly 600 career tackles before his senior season even began. And he's surrounded by a football team with legitimate size up front.
This isn't some undersized 1A roster trying to survive against bigger schools. Oh no. South Putham's recent rosters have featured linemen in the 240, 250, 270, and even 300 pound range. And the program has developed enough depth that its younger players are already playing. Say it with me. Entire second halves on Friday nights.
Wait, is he saying say it with me or are you saying say it with 14 times? He has said it. Oh, that's what makes this bigger than two standout players. This is a program. South Putnham won the 2025 class 1A state championship. The IHSA moved them to class 2A.
Instead of taking a step backward against bigger competition, South Putham opened 2026 by going 3 and 0. 158 to 20 points scored. 138 to zero with varsity on the field. An average halftime lead of 46 to zero. And only six quarters of football played by the entire starting varsity through 32. I think we got to watch this Keenan Murray Shields play.
Last season, did he have one of the best individual athletic performances? They said 251 tackles. 251 tackles, fifth place at Wrestling State, and second in shot put. Like three sports. State runner up and shot put. Yes.
So state runner up, fifth place, and state champion with 251 tackles. Wow. As a junior, is he? Wait. Okay. He said, "I'm blessed to announce commitment to Lynenwood."
So that's FCS. Congrats. That's in Missouri. That was on July 8th. All right. Hey, Keenan Mau Shields.
Congratulations, buddy. appreciate you. You look massive, man. I would not want to get I would not want to see him in the A gap. Nope. Nope.

Um, appreciate you, Spang. I want to talk about some scores that stuck out to me. Okay, let's do it. All right. In 6A, Battle of Fort Wayne here, Fort Wayne Carroll defeats Fort Wayne Dwinger 4929. Go Chargers.
Okay, so there you go. Uh, I didn't know if you had some commentary. I don't have any commentary on that one. Bloomington South's 4-0. Remember, they're knocking on the door. Yeah, they knocking on the door.
Number one, 5A 4521 over 4 a 13th ranked Muny Central. Obviously, Cathedral 16, Chitaard 14. Really, really good game. Lived up to the billing. Hey, how about East Noble? Kendallville 4-0, fourth ranked in class 4A.
They beat Dalb 16th ranked in class 4A. Close one, 14-10. Hey, there you go. That's a good test. East Noble 4-0. All right.
Evansville Wrights defeats Evansville North 33-29. Evansville Wrights is 4-0. This was one of our games of the week down in Evansville 3A number one verse 3A number four. Evansville Memorial demolishes modern day 5221. Memorial is 4-0. Warsaw puts the beat down on Mishawaka 43 to7.
Is that Bark? That's Bart Curtis. That's our boy Bart Curtis. That's a little uh lopsided. Well, but is it that that's like his revenge game? Yeah.
Isn't he from Didn't he go to He coached at Mishwalker for a while most recently. Let me remind you, he is the original Black Crunch at Northwood High School. Don't forget per Angie Miranda. So, thank you. Don't forget uh 4-0 Warsaw 4-0 making some noise. Last thing I have to say to you, 4-0 East Side in class 2A, ranked fourth, putting the beat down on 1A, number 12, Fremont 42-13.
So, just some scores that stuck out to me. really interesting stuff out of Evansville in particular. I would like to say uh battle of Fort Wayne goes to Fort Wayne Carroll there. I got to tell you, Spangle, I think the regional and semi-state rounds in 3A, 4A, and 5A in particular across the state are going to be really interesting this year. Oh man. And so anyway, that's all I got for games that stuck out to me.
Uh we can go ahead and start with class 1A if you'd like. Yeah, let's uh let's dive into the 1A and start working our way back north. Working our way back north. Yes, sir. All right, Dominic, we're going into the one. Wait, wait.
Do you want to do you want to talk about any upsets? Uh, did any upsets interest you? I was just like diving in and and uh and looking through first off. Uh, well, we have to give love close game between uh what a 3A school and are they both 3A? Who? Western and West Lafayette.
So 3A. So a 3A matchup uh which is one that I've not heard a lot. Uh they're I mean Western was 0 and3 headed into the game. Lafayette was West Lafayette was 0 and3 headed into the game. 29-28 Western comes out on top. Love to see that.
Okay. For the Panthers of Western. Happy. Then we keep rolling down there. Uh close one was Triton Central of 2A took down Beach Grove 4A uh 14 to7. That's an impressive win.
That's a good win for Triton Central. That's a very impressive win. Uh, keep rolling from the south side. Greenwood 50, Speedway 21. Then we roll. Oh, we had a little battle up in the region here.
Dude, they're scoring lots of points. Greenwood Speedway rivalry, by the way, I'm told. Oh, that's that's a rivalry. That's what I'm told. Um, LOL. The Red Devils of LOL moved to 2-2 with a 4531 victory over Handover Central.
Nice. I mean, yeah, that's that's good. Oh. Oh. Oh. The Trojans get their first win of the season.
37-6 over South Central Union though. Congratulations. Um, another good one. Okay. Anytime I see a 1A over a 4A, I'm interested. Bowman Academy, they take down East Chicago Central 42 to6.
Can we get a right report? How are the rights looking? I I know uh Caramel got it done over Pike, but I want to know how Bud Right. Larry Bud, right? Let's check a Let's take a peek. Let's take a peek.
What's the right report? Right. Report still half wrong. Oh no. Has he won? This is a little crossount battle.
No, they have not won. Southwood moves to 0 and4. Uh they lose to the cross county battle to Northfield. So if you want to know uh how kind of Wabash is laid out there. There's Northfield which is north of town. It's a county school.
Um and then you have Wabash city schools. And then you have Southwood South of town. Got it. What if Northwood and Southwood played? Wow. Who would be would win, baby?
What about Westwood and Eastwood? Is there an Eastwood? So, Northfield takes down Southwood. Budr Wright moves to 0 and4. Shout out to the Norse. The Norsemen.
That is what Northfield's Northfield. Norseman. Norman. Norman. Nor like Nordic. Oh, yeah.
Yeah. Like the Northern Kentucky Norse. Yeah. Very similar. Okay. If we keep rolling through uh upsets, uh, one, we got to talk a double here.
So Park Tutor Park Tutor takes down Short Ridge. Hey, nice. Big fan of Park Tutor. 26 25. Why are we big fans of Park Tutor? Well, I they were phenomenal hosts last year for Operation Football Sunrise Kickoff.
I had a They were probably runner up in the Spirit Award trophy. I I really enjoyed being there. They were cool. That's what I put the pads on. Do you remember? Yes, I remember.
Uh, also Park Tutor, that was a park tutor alum that nailed the field goal on Pat Mc from from Zansville went to ParkTutor. Some something like that. Something like it. Uh, drilled it. Drilled it for $1. 2 million.

Well, I mean, what was the score? Hey, wait. You forgot to mention this. Destin Hanam won career game number 100 as Southmont beat Frankfurt 42 to6. Who's that? Den Hanam.
That's the Southmont coach. That looks like it. Congrats to the Southmont coach. All right. Then we had you had Scottsburg beating Cordan Central 9 to8. All right.
Yeah, you're what? You're you're the 1A Zar, dude. Let's talk 1A, Dominic. Um, so we talked about Bowman Academy over East Chicago Central. Great win. Uh, more pigs and people.
Carol, number eight, Carol out in Florida take down Deli 24 nothing. Then, uh, hey, Cherabuskco picks up their first win of the of the season over Prairie Heights in a in a close one, 2621. Cloverdale heads uh I I wonder if they I don't know where that came last but uh Cloverdale 49 North Central down in Farmersburg not the North Central Panthers. Uh they get the job done 4927. I'm like looking at teams who picked up their first win of the season. Fountain Central, the Mustangs get it done over Coington.

So, we have on decent authority that there might be a new player in the mix for on the south side. Uh, potentially coming from the east side going to the south side and potentially at first they thought to play quarterback. Now, it's wondering if if said player is going to play quarterback or if that player is going to play linebacker. Either way, there's a there is a utility player in waiting that's not getting time currently. Correct. Correct.

I. e. Westfield and Center Grove. So, that's going to be a real tested game for Lawrence North. No question about it. How about ninth ranked in 6A, Fort Wayne Carroll playing 12th ranked in 5A, Fort Wayne Snder.
It's no weeks off in Fort Wayne. No, it's a meat grinder. And then Ben Davis goes to Warren Central. This could be upset alert. I I like Ben Davis in this game on the road. Oh, Warren Central's just kind of been like Lucy.
They are four and four down. I'm just saying Ben Davis. Ben Davis is two and two. I know, but Warren Central's undefeated. I know, but it's been a it's been a wonky end. Okay, I'm saying.
All right, I could be on upset alert. Then this is my personal game of the week. 5A second ranked New Pal at third ranked Pendleton Heights. Then how about this up north? Northridge 11th ranked in class 4A hosting seventh ranked in class 5A Concord battle in the Northern Lakes Conference. Second ranked Andrean in class 3A going to 4-0, seventh ranked in class 4A Hobbert.
You got to talk about that in the region. So the Brickies are going to host the Fighting 59ers. Love that. Okay, so Andrean's 3-1. They are 3A number three. Yep.
Hbert is number five and 4A and they are undefeated. Yeah, this will be that'll be a solid match up there. Another one in southeastern Indiana. I mean, you didn't talk about it. The Batesville Bulldogs are undefeated and they're on the road. The B Yeah, Batesville's undefeated.
