It's very Midwestern, a lot of welps and nopes. Oops, yeah. Was it Puff Daddy? How's he doing? Producer Chris might be the most interesting person you've never met.
I don't think I like being touched by strangers. Chris, look that up. Okay, I'll look it up. I'm on it. You got it.
You can look it up. Then I'll look it up. And here we go. We're professionals. Did they have batting cages at Birdies?
Um, not officially. Yeah, he had shingles. I don't know if that played into So, what do you do? You can't possibly do this for a living. Woo!
Hey everybody, you got to get into this shot, man. There you go. here. I was going to do a brand entrance. Hey, maybe Chris, maybe twist that camera just a smidge so we get a little There it is.
There it is. I like that. I'm going to scoot this way up a little bit like that. That sounds nice. Hey everybody, welcome in to your favorite podcast.
There's no question about it. All the statistics are pointing in that trajectory. We are I'll say it, skyrocketing up the podcast charts. Are we viral? That's awesome.
I have I'm coming down something. I I thought I heard it. I heard I heard you going viral before we get recorded. Yeah, I probably should have told you guys before you came in the room, but here we are. There's a cream for that.

By God, if you've been around Noblesville for any amount of time and you go to any sort of Noblesville gathering, whether that's a farmers market or any number of events downtown, you've probably seen this shiny head protruding above the crowd. Ladies and gentlemen, our friend Patrick Probst in studio. Patrick!
Wow. Wow. I'm glad I'm glad the audience is here. It's really good to have them here. You really packed the stands.
Thank you, yeah. We really pack them in. And again, I apologize everybody for the viral issue I'm having. Uh Patrick from Serve Well, now Serve Village. Correct?
It is now, yes. Okay. And that's fairly recent. Well, it's always been that way. When we started the nonprofit, we had that and then we did the DBA as Serve Noble Soul cuz that's what we were when we were just a collaboration pretending that we were doing something.
Which is kind of very similar to what you guys are doing, which is Yeah, I like it. It's fun. That's Serve Noble Soul. I'm wearing the shirt. the brand.
Looks good. Yeah, it's a nice shirt, too. People know You know what? I get frustrated though cuz maybe this is a good thing. Maybe it's a compliment.
We find them now in Goodwill. Which I should be offended, but at at the same time I'm like, I don't know. People have had it around long enough that they're like, "Eh, time to get rid of that one." Right. And we give them out with enough frequency they're like, "I got 20 of these fans." Yeah. I found one of my CDs in a Goodwill one time.
That would be so awesome. I was like, "I'm going to assume they burned this onto their computer or whatever at the time and you put it out there for the good of the public." They still have the MP3. Yeah. It's on a hard drive somewhere. Yeah, in the garage.
at a Goodwill in South Carolina or did it make it to Indiana? No, South Carolina. Okay. Great if it was outside the region. I'd be like, "Wow, I have arrived." Yeah.
I'm trash everywhere. Hey. For some people that's a treasure. Okay. Not trash.
Yes. Yeah. Thank you. Uh Patrick, we'll come back to you. Let's go around the horn here.
Talk about our weekends. What did you do this weekend, Tyler? I had a lot of gigs. I've had four gigs in the last five days. Wow.
hear it in my voice. I'm I'm getting too old for that many gigs. That's a lot. Yeah. Two private parties.
Um the fun little recording session at uh Center Stage Guitars. We'll talk about that probably later. Um and then Holiday Farms Clubhouse in Zionsville last night. Okay. Yeah.
All right. That's a lot of gigs. And and we had a mutual friend at one of the gigs. Uh Tom. Was he at the He was the one that referred me to the gig.
Yeah, I didn't know he was there or not. this podcast. Yeah. Yeah. so I know we're going viral now.
Right. Well, Tom um so Tom Baumgartner who plays in a like a duo called Revealed. Yeah. Um they played at Sid's a couple times on a First Friday or something like that too, but he uh went to I went to high school with him. He was 2 years ahead of me.
And he in some ways taught me to play guitar. Like But he didn't teach you how to tune it though. Oh yeah. I mean you skip a lesson, you know, jump into lesson 20, you know. Uh yeah, so anyways, that that's how I know Tom.
Well, and the party was for the other guy in his duo, Craig. Okay. So it was his uh surprise 50th birthday party. Oh, nice. Yeah.
All right. Other than that, my ceiling is leaking and my TV's broken. Yeah, I still can't figure it out, so if there's any plumbers out there I wish we had more trades going on in the community. If we had like a concert to promote that would support the trades, that would do a lot for our community. There's there's literally no plumbers anymore.
I know. Yeah. Can't find them. I watched a movie about uh plumbers. Mario Brothers?
Yeah. Wow. Super Mario Brothers movie. All right. Yes!
Chris got some new sounds. I had no idea the life of a plumber was so exciting. Now you're saving princesses Yeah. and you're fighting Donkey Kongs? Yeah.
Your mind goes places when you're stuck in that little space under the kitchen, like That's right. Yeah. All sorts of cracks to fall in outside of that space, too. That's right. Plumber's cracks.
Yes. Thank you there. All right, that was my weekend, so. Speaking of exposed cracks, I was at Gen Con. Yeah, They had plumbing issues at Gen Con.
Did you hear anything about this? did. Oh. So, for you guys that maybe not don't know about it. So, there was a I don't know what day it was.
I think I want to say Well, I heard about it on Sunday. So, it must have been Satur- Friday or Saturday. Um the roof at the convention center started leaking Yeah, we had some rain this weekend. rain, yeah. Oh, man.
And so, that was right over like where the um like game demos happen. So, Oh, no. have all their stuff out there and there's people trying to play games and I mean, it's just coming down. So, I haven't heard about the fallout, but it made me grateful that Chris is over there working on getting us some insurance for Trade Up Fest cuz you never know. You never So, so you guys both have stories of leaking ceilings.
That's right. That's You got one? I don't, but Noblesville Serve Village come fix my leak? Uh you know, we That's not We work with a lot of low-skilled volunteers. I'm not sure you want that.
Okay. It's it's There's probably a few in there that could maybe make that happen, but um uh you know. They could probably come tear your ceiling out. They could tear it out. Probably yeah.
Paint a mural over the They could paint a mural. leak spots. We can put some duct tape on it. See how it works. Uh I like that.
What did you do this week? Um if by gigs, we talk about things that we do that are special skill. Uh there's no skill involved in what I do. Then I'm really then I had gigs all weekend. One of those included a 3-hour nap in the rain.
It was fantastic. Not in the rain, it was in my bed, which is not in the rain. But yeah, I I crashed out and then did whatever he I would say midlife person man in their 40s or 50s loves to do on a weekend, which is clean their garage. So, yeah. feeling.
I recently cleaned my garage. Yeah, in fact, when I walked through it this morning, I was like, "Oh, this just feels good." I have like a clear path my door to I don't have to walk over things or trip over things or it's not leaves collected from the last 2 years sitting in corners and cobwebs. It's quite quite satisfying, yeah. I think we've got the basis for a nice really nice country song here. Leaking roofs Yeah.
clean garage clean garage My leaf maybe My my leaf my roof maybe leaking but at least my garage is clean. I love it. I love it. Man, what a chorus there. Christopher, what'd you do?
Uh I did I did sound for uh one of Fousheé's shows on Friday. Uh and then on Saturday I went to the Take Care Records anniversary party. Oh yeah, you invited us to that. I did, yeah. We both declined.
I couldn't make it. I love you. I had gigs. I had gigs. They were too busy.
gigs But it was great. Uh saw some live music and uh I don't know what's going on with that microphone. We may have to It's a little uh You know what? Try this. Get rid of the lav and just if you look at the top of the transmitter There's like a little screen.
Yeah, just kind of hold it up like you would a microphone. Yeah, let's just try that. You guys able to hear me now? It's still doing the thing. Still doing the Yeah.
I think it's just how he talks. It's like a speech impediment. It's like Optimus Prime. It's like a Something's going on. All right.
Well, we'll just use you sparingly. As as is our custom. Just be over here in the corner. Okay. All right.
Bye, Chris. So long, guys. Let me know if you need anything. Yeah, just keep those sound effects coming. Um my weekend I I was doing a lot I felt like an Uber driver this weekend because I was hauling strangers in your backseat around?
All right. Were they alive? That's fun. For the moment. No, I was hauling my teenagers.
I've got We got seven teenagers. Some people just call that parenting. But Don't they consider that as a short-term contract service? Yeah, it's it's like a Aren't they old enough to drive? Don't they Well, Dylan can drive.
So why isn't he driving them around? He works in Tipton. And I had to And Ginger had to do it on Saturday, too. So it was like this weird sort of time frame that he couldn't necessarily help. He did help on Sunday.
Is he a plumber? No, he is a mechanic, though. Okay, that's pretty much the same thing, right? It's a trades. Yeah, it's like a plumber for cars.
Mechanics, plumbers for cars. I like that. Uh yeah, so it was a lot of a lot of that. Well, I can't interrupt you. I bought I bought something really funny on Amazon related to being a chauffeur because I have to drive my kids around a lot, too.
Yeah, and and Henry's 13 and I really want to embarrass him when I drive he and his friends around. So I got a chauffeur's costume on Amazon. Like the driver's hat and the glasses and the white gloves. So now every time I drive him and his friends around I wear a chauffeur's costume. You got to put the child locks on the back door so they can't get out until you open it.
That way it's full legit. Where to, Miss Daisy? All right, back to your weekend. That was my weekend. I wish I had the chauffeur's hat.
You can borrow it. Yeah. I feel like I'm either a uh an Uber driver or Uber Eats cuz all I do is drive people or make food. But it's okay. Yeah.
Dad life, man. One of these days I'm going to miss that. Or not. Not. Maybe it'll be like that.
I'm glad I'm not doing that anymore. I'm glad that season's passed. Uh but that was my weekend. Yeah. And I watched Super Mario Brothers Galaxy.
Super Mario Galaxy brothers, whatever. Thank you. I'll be honest, it wasn't good. Didn't care for it. What?
Mhm. I heard it was a blockbuster. I mean that Hey. Hey man, those things isn't Oh, that's a good joke. That's a real good joke.
Do we have an award button? Um. That'll work. good enough. That's about as good as a joke as it gets.
My kids went to uh this summer they went to um Universal Studios where they have uh the new Mario world. Yeah. And I guess there's like blocks suspended in the air somehow that you can You punch, yeah. Yeah, that's fun. Isn't that neat?
Yeah. Is it that was like their favorite part was. And money comes pouring out that they can collect, no? No, not like Well, the money's pouring out of your wallet. Your pocket, yeah, that's different.
That's not the direction you wanted to go. no. Uh let's get into Patrick. Who is Patrick? Wow.
Pro. How long is this podcast? Well, you got a hard out at 10. That's I I I do, so I'm done. I'm just going through these curtains and disappearing.
Where'd he go? He's gone. Um yeah. What do you want to know? Patrick, how long have you been in Noblesville?
22 years. And 22 years, how long has uh Noblesville Serve Village been around? We've been around this our 15th year. Okay. Yeah.
And what's I don't even know what I mean, I kind of know what Serve Village does, but it is. I don't I don't even know what it is. So, let's just make it up. Here today is where we get to define what Serve Village is. when you incorporated as a non-profit, you probably had to have some sort of description of what you did.
Yeah, it was funny, you know, 15 years ago there were a bunch of youth pastors that we were hanging out together and doing things with our students and we we enjoyed that time, but then we also found that like in the summers we were all taking them trips outside the community to go provide services in other communities and we were like, "Hmm, that seems odd. Like, we should try to create something that's here to serve locally with our families as well." Mhm. Um and there was another nonprofit um that Merlin Gonzales had started called um Faith, Hope, and Love that was operating out of Indy and was trying to do kind of this uh inner uh center central Indiana kind of service opportunity. They wanted to have all these communities doing this week of service and so they had reached out to uh Fred Noll over at White River and uh Derek Lynas was there at the time and they were they had started that. Um I missed the first year of it and so they did three or four years of that.
Um but it was always a weird timing and so we're like, "Hey, can we move it to earlier in the summer?" Um and eventually Merlin was like, "Yeah, go do it, but do it don't take our name, do your own name thing." And we were like, "Oh, uh shoot. Uh what are we doing? We're serving Noblesville." And so we started we were collaboration is what we called it. Um it gave us an excuse to grab lunch once a month and plan how to do fun projects in the community for one week out of the summer. It took all year to do that.
It was very intense. Um after about five years of doing that, we started seeing some collaboration from the community of wanting to get involved with that. Uh different businesses wanting to come out and volunteer. And so it kind of started those conversations of, "Hey, is this is there more here?" Right. And we we had three years we talked about it cuz we were all kind of at capacity and there were some that were like, "I'm not interested in more.
Not interested in doing anything else. Like, this is just kind of fun." And there were others that were like, "I don't know, there seems like there's this knocking There's a need there. Hey, we want to we want to be a part of this." And so uh we did in 2018 created the created a the 501. Um and we set it up as Serve Village because we we were hoping to scale it to be able to move into other communities and share kind of what we were doing because it's kind of a unique approach. It's very asset-based as opposed to a needs-based nonprofit.
Um most people think we're a volunteer uh service organization and we're not. Uh we're we're a a connecting organization. And so we use service as one tool that we use to connect people. Uh but we also you use hospitality events. So we host Fun Fest, which is the cultural celebration for Noblesville, uh which has just been fantastic to see that kind of come alive in a very kind of organic way and not a vendor-based cultural fair, which is most of the time the way that they're organized.
And so uh when that Fun Fest operates, it's it's led by families in the community bringing uh their family resources and their stories and their food that matters to them uh and sharing that with the community. And so this last year uh we had a lot of arts that were shared there, music and dance uh from different groups. We had a henna artists that were there. We had probably 30, I think we had 36 booths, and we had over 600 people in attendance, and it just was very very casual, more like a family reunion as opposed to like a a festival event. Yeah.
Um and so that's that's kind of what we do as we we really kind of create this culture in this context that brings people into it based on their interest. And then then in that space is where the magic happens, where we connect people in ways that they wouldn't expect otherwise. And so there then we're building out a community fabric that then helps to do really some systemic things that we see happening in our community, reducing isolation, uh which we know is a growing problem across our country uh and culture, um improving mental health um by creating connection, but also putting a play people in a place where there's a purpose and a meaning to that. Um and in that then creating intergenerational opportunities both for older generations that are living more isolated, but younger generations that uh have lost kind of some of those social structures that help to create a sense of identity and place and belonging. Um and so it's it's that's kind of the big picture of it, the 30,000-ft view, but most people just see us as painting murals and and raking leaves and and putting duct tape on people's leaking ceilings and But I think like it's interesting to hear you say that because I've often felt I've said this a lot of times in emails.
I'll say it one more time and then no more. No, I'm going to keep saying Okay, keep saying it. Keep saying it. Um, I think like that's the great thing about live music is um, I use this example of sitting at Federal Hill for one of the free community concerts. I don't even remember which one it was, but um the band was playing some sort of song or some sort of song some song Some sort of song.
Some sort of song. Uh, but you look out at the crowd and everybody's singing along with it, right? And it's everybody's singing along with it regardless of their political beliefs, socioeconomic status, uh, sexuality, um, you know, religious beliefs. Everybody's singing the same song, right? And I think that's really powerful and I was thinking about this the other day like a lot of people are using AI to create songs and my friend and I were having this discussion of like will will that replace music like we think of it?
And it could. I mean, it's easy, right? But I don't think it can replace the live music experience. Like there's just something about collectively being in a place, all listening to the same song, all singing along with the same song um, that is kind of magical, but it creates that community that sense of community, that sense of belonging that you're talking about that you guys create and creates that social fabric. Yeah, music particularly too in our culture is um, it's such a great unifier too because there's nowhere in our society today where we have communal singing, which has been such an iconic component of cultures and groups throughout the history of the world.
and as a Western world we don't do that anymore. Um church was maybe the last frontier of doing that and most church music unless you're going into high high church, um most church music anymore is more performance based. Shut off all the lights, play the music so loud you can't hear yourself singing in that space and so it's a we're doing it up here and you're receiving it there. Um but there's a there's a value in communal singing and really live music concerts are I would say the last thing we have kind of in the Western frontier to provide us that. And the beauty of that is it's not just listening to music.
It's it is an experience, right? It is which is why AI won't replace it because it's it's a soul thing um that happens, right? That beyond is beyond just the elemental thing of oh I hear a thing and I like that and that makes me feel good, but it's the word and the language that transcends the way that I'm able to kind of talk about it literally that says no no no that's that's the language paired with the sounds and the the vibrations and whatever that take it to another level but then I get lost in it and it becomes this ethereal place where you you raise to another uh level and plane that you you you lose yourself but also find this connection with others. It's this really kind of beautiful thing that happens of getting lost in it but also finding connection. Yeah.
Well put. Yeah yeah. That's great. I grew up in a I'm going to go ahead and I'll thank you guys. Yes.
It's not taking up time. Yeah you're you're contracted to be here. I grew up in a Church of Christ uh which was all a cappella singing. Yeah which is fantastic, yeah. Well it's fantastic when it's good.
It's not so fantastic when it's not. But yeah, when There's a great skill that kind of gets learned in that space just because of tradition. Like it's not taught. It's not like there was a class that you went to that they're like here's how we sing in a cappella and here's what harmony is. You just kind of learn it by being in the space and you're like oh that's that's how the guys with high voices sing.
This is how the guys with low voices sing, right? And everybody kind of finds I remember the first time I went to one I was like, "Oh, wow, what is happening? Like, this is wild." So, yeah. it's good that those harmonies in the human voice, I mean, it's irreplaceable. Um that sort of feeling that it that it gives.
Um but yeah, it is interesting that it's not there was never like, "Hey, here's everybody's part. You sing this." You know, we never did that. It was just Junior high boys Put you in the first tenor class. You got 3 years to really hit it here. But, I will say and like, I love singing harmony and it's a very natural and easy for me to sing harmony and I think it's probably because of growing up just hearing it all the time.
So. Anyways, yeah. So, let's talk about events. So, I did some video work for you guys for Serve Week. Um talk about that.
That's That was tremendous. So, I was driving around. I kind of had the luxury of being behind the camera and I got to see all of it. So, I went to, I don't know, four or five stops every day um and got to see all the various projects. So.
Various, yeah. That's That's kind of the big thing that I think most people that are volunteering with us through the week kind of miss, which is we try to highlight those stories, but you can only capture so much. Um but, yeah, it's so it's it's Serve Week. That's what we've been doing for 15 years. Uh it's kind of our capstone project is Hamilton County's largest single service event where we mobilize what we always say, roughly 1,000 volunteers on 100 projects throughout Hamilton County.
Um and those projects vary from across the board and the partnerships carry. So, sometimes it's working directly with neighbors. Um I I think the key component there is it's it's always about the partnership uh and the engagement that we've created with a level of trust and credibility for 15 years. And so, like, usually working with neighbors, we're working with those that are 55 and older. We partner with Shepherd Center in Hamilton County, which serves that community.
They help identify those neighbors that need help cleaning out there, you know, their weeds or their bushes or whatever. But also, like the thing that we stress with our our volunteers of this is more than that. This is a connection. You're you have a chance to to talk with a family who may not have much opportunity otherwise. So, spend time having the conversation with them.
It's not just about getting the leaves out. the task. It's It's the connection. I think that's one thing that we learned slowly over the years. I think the first part it was all about let's go see how much we can accomplish as quickly as possible and just kind of be like this wave of good willing locusts plaguing the plaguing it, right?
Um and it was really like, no, let's slow down. Like the projects are nice, but really we find that the power of the story comes when the connection happens and people get to hear the story of that. And so, from helping neighbors to working with Hamilton County Parks doing some invasive removal projects, working with Noblesville Creates, both cleaning up kind of their personal campus, but also putting together street murals where there are crosswalks, which is fun. Like Yeah. crosswalks are boring and lame, but I think we've got some we're community that's got really great crosswalks that look nice and are decorative.
And that becomes of that partnership where they create the design, they use their asset and their skill, and we bring it bring the asset of volunteers who are willing and wanting to do that. So, it's fun to see that. To see the diversity of the projects is always fun when we get when we get sponsors, partners, donors that want to engage and are curious about it. I always try to take somebody and say, "Hey, drive around with me for a day. You'll see 10 to 12 different projects and kind of see how broad the scope of of our work is, which is exciting." interesting.
Uh so, I'll for the viewers and listeners, I'll give you a kind of a broad view of what I saw that few days. There were people packing like meals or or kind of emergency Nutritional meals, yeah. Nutritional for uh developing or or stricken communities by disaster or war or whatever the case. Like rice and beans type things. And that's right here in our community, which is wild.
Like IDES Yeah. a great community secret. They don't want to be a secret, but most people don't know about them and and so we love that partnership where we get to introduce people to IDES, which is kind of like a Red Cross, but very much serving with different ministries across the world. Disaster relief both globally and locally. What's the name of that organization?
IDES, International Disaster Emergency Services. I D E S Yep. Yep. Uh so that like the fire department was out there, the city was out there. Um but then there was also the Be Free folks um cleaning up.
They bought the old putt-putt place and the old driving range out off of 30. Was that 32? 32, yeah. So they yeah, that's a development that they'll eventually build their facility. They have they have a facility there and uh Be Free, they they create a wonderful like granola products that is out there and it's free of additives and natural stuff, so it's good for people who have super serious dietary restrictions, but then they also do a great job of providing job training for young and olds with different mental disabilities and and limitations.
And so they provide training that then puts them out in the workforce for a place of finding a sense of joy and satisfaction. And so they'd inherited this property, this putt-putt golf course uh that was tired and run down. They knew some construction was happening, but it wasn't going to happen a while and they wanted the campus to look a little bit better. And so we were able to put some volunteers out there again with partnership with Hamilton County Leadership Academy. That was a project they took on.
And so we we took some of the county leaders and said, "Great, here's your project." And then they put in the grunt work of removing blocks and putt-putt golf windmills and you know whatever you know whatever is in a putt-putt golf course, right? And throwing that in the dumpster, which then was also in partnership with Bolden's Restoration who provided the the dump trailers for us to load that into and gave us that and then went and dumped it without charging us a fee. So, it's it's what I love about Serve Week that we're trying to all that, right? Here's all that goes into a project and the community partners that are involved with that, which is what makes it fantastic. That's great.
Yeah. Um what else we Sorry, I kind of keep taking over your story. Keep going. Uh the Well, you mentioned the invasive uh plants up at uh Potter's Potter's Bridge Park. Potter's Bridge, second year doing that, yeah.
had the Hamilton Heights girls soccer team Coming out for 12 years. They've been 12 years. Coach Travis Kaufman's been bringing his girls out as a key component of like soccer is more than sports. Like this leads to other things. I loved about Yeah, and the football team, the boys football team from Noblesville came out the next day, um but it was team building.
It's it's showing them that there's more to life like those skills you learn in sports are transferable to real life and it's important to serve your community like Yeah, and the power of what happens in that in that negative space time, that unorganized time of like you're doing a project, but all the things that happen there that create stories and experience and memories, right? Where where, you know, Josh farts accidentally, right? And that becomes now an inside joke because of something that that was caught on the mic. I'm sorry, guys. Right, there's just those little things that happen when you're serving and volunteering.
Somebody trips, whatever the case is. Somebody gets hurt, you know, we don't want that. We signed a waiver, so we're good, cleared. Um but you know, all those all those logistics, the small things that happen in the randomness of life that you're like, "Oh, you remember when?" You get a roll. Like that's we've lost that in our community and our culture and that's what we're trying to build back into it, uh which is, you know, future events.
We've got a lip sync night on October 27th, right? It's going to be Halloween theme and like the fantastic fun of this, we do this out of Outlaws Steaks Burgers and Brews. They're fantastic partners with us. Anytime we need anything, they're like, "Yeah, well, you got it. So, they give us space uh and then we're like, lip sync.
Like it's even a lower bar than karaoke. Like you don't even have to know and I'm so bad with lyrics. Like I'm always watermelon lyrics. My grandfather always said, somebody invented the lyrics the first time, I'm going to invent them the second time, right? So, I'm I'm kind of that that branch and and so it's just throwing that out there.
They get to pick the song and we did one in July and it was fantastic to watch because we had two teams of junior high and early high school girls that came out for that and you would think junior high girls shy, timid, I'm not getting in front of a group of people, especially strangers that I don't know and they totally were like rocking it, right? They're taking whatever they can use as a microphone, a salt shaker or whatever up on the screen. So, it's that of creating that memory. We had a family that came in who came in to celebrate his wife's 50th birthday. So, they come in dressed in like 80s garb, full 80s garb, decked out.
He's like, I told her to dress up, didn't tell her where we were going. Like he came in and sang a song for her, like lip sync the song for her and it's great cuz you you pick a banger and everybody's singing with you. Like nobody's singing alone. So, so it's those are fantastic and those are we we say those are free, but if you pay for the $15 ticket, you're going to get a free appetizer and then that money is going to go towards helping to support our surf scholarship that we give out to a student. So, it's you can come for free, come enjoy the memory, the experience, the fun, but also if you buy a ticket, you're going to get a free appetizer.
Buy a great dinner Tuesday night, steak night, they do a great steak, but then also have fun with with the memories that we're going to have and create there. So, that's one of the future events. That's October 27th. So, you have cool events coming up. We do.
August next one, August 23rd. It's a Sunday. Happy birthday. We're going to celebrate you there. I hope you can make it.
I can't. You're Uber driving that day, I'm probably, no doubt. I'll be at the Outlaw Willie Nelson's Outlaw Country Music Festival is that night also. Um but anyway, we it's um the Noblesville Schools Community Center on Field Drive. Mhm.
It's our Serve Celebration, which used to be a winter event. Um and we moved it to this this in the fall. That's a free event as well. Um and it's really where we give out we give out seven community awards for individuals and groups that epitomize and embody the Serve values and characteristics. So, it's that's always a beautiful moment.
Yeah. Because it's we get we have a Mr. Rogers award for a volunteer that just shows up and just embodies Fred and his qualities and character of like, man, this is we need more of this in our world. Right? And you give them a special cardigan?
Uh well, no. You beat me to it. It's it's just a carved out piece of wood with painted. Yeah, it's it's Um So, yeah, we'll give that out. We we have Pickle Men's is sponsoring the lunch.
Uh so, it's yeah, some fantastic awards and that's that's always a good celebration. It'll be fun to see how that works moving it into the fall. Um that's August 23rd. August 23rd, and you can register for that. You can find that on the website servevillage.org.
servevillage.org Yep, it's easy. that up there. We need easy things. I need easy things. And then we have single serve days.
This is something a newer program that we started 2 years ago. And we've been working on what each of those are. So, we do a MLK single service day in January. We do one around Earth Day, which has been in partnership with the PNE Festival and Keep Noblesville Beautiful and Noblesville Preservation Alliance. Um that's in April.
The one in September is going to be in partnership this year with the White River Alliance and cleanup. Uh so, you can come out on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. White River Canoes offers the canoes. They got it three different locations in Hamilton County. We're going to float the river and clean it up and keep it as a fantastic resource.
I don't know if you guys have seen this. So, we are a part of the Get In Podcast Network. Of course, we work with Nick Spangle and his team for all the great work they do. But, he recently did a video where he put in at Muncie Yes. and went all the way down to downtown Noblesville or downtown Indianapolis.
Yeah, I think Did he get out in downtown Indy? Mhm, I think he went down to the canal. Yeah. Yeah, I know he went at least that far, but I was thinking did he even go further than that, but they talked about how um back in the when was it? 1970s?
Well, there was the 70s There's something in the 70s that happened. Yeah, in Anderson, um but then uh something happened in Noblesville like in the 1800s like an old mill or something. thing? That's kind of it. That's That's what was the 70s.
The 70s did that. Yeah, there weren't any regulation and a lot of the corporations and Hey, don't throw shade on Anderson, okay? I don't want I'm not going to stand I'm not going to sit here and take it. Visit lnproducts.com in Anderson, Indiana. Uh but yeah, anyways, that's cool.
The White River. Yeah, that and then the other big key event this fall, October 2nd and 3rd, new event for us. We're doing what we call the Great Village Camp Out. this. Tell me.
Yeah, so this is a 24-hour camp out. October What was the date? October 2nd and 3rd. It's a Friday to Saturday. 24 hours, 4:00 p.m.
to 4:00 p.m. That's 24 hours. You can go count it up and fact-check me there. You can check that, Chris. Look that up.
Checks out. At Teter Retreat Organic Farm. And so, they're giving us space where we come out and folks can buy We want teams to sign up and teams of 10 to again create those experience, share those stories. We're going to kind of do a microcosm of what Serve Village does. So, we'll have some service opportunities.
We're going to do either a karaoke or lip sync night around the campfire. We're going to light up some lanterns and send them off into the sky. We're just going to create this experience. We'll have some field games. The old old school like three-legged race and egg carry and and really kind of just create something where we just kind of step out of the world.
And so, if you're, you know, if you're if your kids got sports events and whatever, and you can't stay there 24 hours, it's close enough that you can kind of dip in and dip out and do your thing. Um but, for 24 hours, you're going to have some fun. We're going to kick off a We have a mascot, Sammy, Sammy the Squirrel. Uh and Sammy's going to have a 5K. So, you're going to run a little race through the woods if you want, or walk through the woods if you want.
Um so, yeah, all sorts of fun, different different kind of events. Tickets will go live for that probably another week or two. Have you to reserve your spot, but come out and build some memories and experiences. for that? Cuz I know there's like cabin-type things.
Yeah, we're not going to access the cabins. You can sleep under the stars if you'd like. Um but, I'd probably recommend the tents. It's uh you do it however you want, you know. Perfect.
I love that. Okay. And that can be all that everything that you're talking about, Serve Village. On Serve Village dot org, yep. Uh dot com will take you there, too.
But, yes. Perfect. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah.
Come see Come come see it. Come introduce yourself. Even if you've introduced yourself before, introduce yourself again cuz I forget names and faces and Same. I'm really really good at it. It's why we do uh duct tape name tags in all of our Serve events to Love that.
help me so I can do a little I sneak you know you Hey. All right. So, go check out servevillage.org for all these opportunities. They're really a great organization. Um I had a lot of fun putting that video together and just seeing all the work that they're doing.
Um I will tell you this one quick story. I went to the library team, so the team from one of the Hamiltonian Public Library, yep. was doing just I guess yard work for various people, and they were doing yard work for an elderly lady, um kind of up by the up by the library. And she could just came out, and she was just so thankful and grateful. She said, "I used to you know, I used to do all this myself, and I just I just can't do it anymore.
Mhm. Her husband died however many years ago and she's just there by herself and she was just blown away by you know, anybody that would care to come move some plants around and plant some flowers and it was really cool. It was. Yeah, we hear we love hearing those stories um of just the impact that that has, which is also why we really stress with those volunteer teams of like don't just bury your head in leaves and whatever. Like go talk to them because That's probably the highlight of her day or month is It's what we because there is a little bit of shame and embarrassment with anybody who used to be able to do that and can't anymore of like I want you know, I want to be a good neighbor and and do these things and so we always let them know like your asset is the story of you lived here.
Like you've done that in your time here. We're going to we're going to help you out. Like go listen to their story. Go hear what they love about this community or what they used to do and their family and it really gives them a sense of pride and purpose with that and it's you know, it I'll just say like the fun stories that we've heard and not only those and the impact there, but we had I remember last year I had a parent that came to me during serve week and was like uh hey, serve is really creating some problems uh for our family. And I'm like, oh, what's going on there?
And they're like, well, my kids are signed up for these travel sports things and they're now wanting to not go to practice and stuff so they can come to serve week and volunteer. And I'm like I'm glad I'm giving your family that. Like and it was all And it was all tongue and cheek where she's like, you know, she's like I she's like thank you for that, right? They're they're learning there's something beyond just the sports field to give them a sense of identity and the pride that they can feel by showing up and being seen and connecting with them. Like that's what we're creating.
That's what we're doing. That's awesome. Because you're not going to be an athlete most likely. And that can't be your identity forever. if it is, like look at what professional athletes do.
Like they're very big into philanthropic efforts. So if you're doing it without heart just like music, you're missing the point. Yeah, I think that's great especially for teens to be involved in something like that. At that age, everybody's looking for an identity, and where you look in your teen years, you don't always find the best identity. It's a good way to Yeah, I didn't.
And and having something like that that's positive that they can say, "Yeah, I do this." You know, that's a that's a wonderful thing for for kids that age. And learning to serve the community where you live. Yeah, that's very important. That's correct. Uh so, also, I just want to say, if you're in downtown Noblesville, take a walk down, I guess, what is that?
Maple Maple and Cherry, the alley between Maple and Cherry. Yeah, the alley between Maple and Cherry, there's tons of great murals that served as, I guess you do one every year? We try to we try to do more. Our goal is, you know, we want eventually to have about a 3 and 1/2 mile mural walkway in downtown. So, our we're building out a project car called Art and Soul uh that we're going to start doing, which is going to be uh Friday to Saturday, Friday evening, and then a Saturday event that's going to be fully so uh solely focused on uh painting murals and uh cleaning up the alleyways, putting in pollinator parks, uh lending lending libraries around interests and hobbies and such.
Um so, we're yeah, we're excited to build that up and get that going, but we've got 14 murals that we have done and been in partnership with an organization. I think there's about 20 in the alleyways in historic downtown. And so, Cherry and Maple between there, but then also uh just east of 10th Street, uh that alleyway has about four or five as well. So, from Seminary Park down to uh Plum or Christian. Okay.
There's a a new mural behind Debbie's Daughters. Is that Is that somebody poaching on your territory? You want me to go You want me to go shut her down? We do not own the rights to murals. People come to us and like, "Hey, can I put a mural on my" You can do whatever you want on your garage.
Like, we don't own the rights or permission for murals. You can do that whenever you want. Yeah. Yeah, that's why I made a mural of the Serve Village logo on my garage. Bold.
Bold. Uh so, go check out servevillage.org to learn more about what they're doing and get involved in this serve celebration or one of the carry not karaoke, lip sync nights. right. Or maybe the camp out on October. Hey, we got to get to the Hamco live top five, Christopher.
You moved all my stuff. so well. That should be top right. It's the Hamco live top five brought to you by Moonshot Games in downtown Noblesville and at moonshotgamestore.com. This is where we record the podcast.
They're nice enough to let us use the podcast studio. If you need a new game, go to moonshotgames or moonshotgamestore.com and get yourself a nice new board game. Is that me? That is your phone, people. ads manager.
Got some ads running for this trade up fest trying to get some tickets sold. Yeah. Uh, moonshotgamestore.com. Okay, today's top five category. I kind of liked it.
I was sort of meh on it. Yeah. And then I was like, oh, no, I do like this a lot. Top five duets. Duets.
That's Italian for two. Two. I I need a clarification on this. Okay. Uh, I'll come to the experts.
What's the difference between a duet Mhm. and a feature artist? Yeah, I think we could talk we could debate this. To me a duet both singers have nearly equal Okay. Yeah, they have to sing at the same time, I think, or or at least equal time.
Yeah. Yeah, I don't think somebody rapping on a verse makes it a duet. Well, that eliminates one of mine. Really? You should have read the rules before you got here.
You're saying that My third pick, which is what I have to interrupt because the other one wasn't on Spotify, is Rihanna and Eminem's Love the Way You Lie. You're saying that's not a duet? even know that song. Yeah, I don't either. That's okay.
Well, I mean, that's kind of the reverse. Like, that's a rap song where Rihanna sings. Mhm. Starts with Rihanna. Oh, that's okay.
Well, check that banger out. I mean, Okay. Well, here's the list. Uh and this might be along those same lines. Uh the Alicia Keys Jay-Z Empire Yeah.
song. Is that a duet? I don't know. Chris? I think they both have to have a verse.
I don't think you can have someone who just sing the chorus and that count as a duet. Okay. Yeah, I agree. Okay. Yeah, I like that as a definition.
We got some research to do. I Well, You're going to need you guys to create a handbook for your guests for the future so I'm not putting this place Uh but we do have the our Spotify playlist that we have created that's uh what's that called? Hamcode does duets. Hamcode does duets. Sounds like the name of an adult film.
This is my friend duet. And I promise you it's a Spotify playlist. And this guy's just going to rap in the background so he doesn't count. Okay. Uh Tyler, why don't you kick us off?
Per usual. Oh, man. Uh I'm going I think this is a definitely a duet. Under Pressure, David Bowie and Freddie Mercury. It's kind of one of the key, like the first ones you think about in duet.
Like that was one of the first ones I came to. That never crossed my mind. Really? I guess I I'm thinking this is the music much? Wow.
I I typically think like male-female. Yeah. Vocal. I know. I All the ones I picked I think were almost stereotypes here.
I mean, yeah. I love it. Under Pressure. Yeah. And you probably know it was heavily influenced by uh Ice Ice Baby.
All right. Robbie Van Winkle. Yeah. Yeah, he was a big influence on that song. I love that.
Okay. Doom doom doom de de de de doom. Christopher, what do you got? Uh I put in Why is that doing that? I don't know.
Maybe poor connection. the robot dial down on your mic? I contributed to Sleep Dirt, which is uh Frank Zappa and who else was on this? It was a duet with Frank Zappa. That's probably enough info.
And uh California Love. Wait, you have one at a time, man. Yeah, why are you giving us both? Oh, my fault. He's He's dipping out.
He's got an appointment at 9:30. He's gone. build the tension. I retract my Okay, Sleep Dirt. previous statement.
Sleep Dirt. Sleep Dirt by Frank Zappa. And Now, were the Mothers of Invention involved in that or was it just Zapp? Just credited to Frank Zappa. Okay.
He's got a kid named Dweezil. Zappa. Sure. Yeah. Heck of a guitar player.
Yeah. Yeah. And um Stardust or something like that is another one of his kids. I don't know. It doesn't matter.
Uh I'm going to go Matters to them. You know, that's true. Yeah. Yeah. I apologize.
I think to formally apologize to Dweezil and Stardust. Or Moon Beam. I don't know what your name is, Zappa. I'm sorry. I I'll just apologize to the estate of Frank Zappa.
That's good. Um I'm going to choose Oh, gosh. Now I'm blanking on it. You forgot. I did.
I I think it's one of the best duets of all time. And now I'm blanking on the name. Islands in the Stream. You can say it. You can say it.
Listen, I I threw it on there. It's not my choice, but I think it's a great With the Maya version with the Is it on the list? I put it on there. Did Yo, Poison and Wine by The Civil Wars. You guys know this song?
Everything by The Civil Wars. That's a good one. Yeah. Gosh, it's so good. but if you're going to Such a great example of um I don't know what you call it, just a a constant crescendo.
Mhm. Yeah. Where it they keep adding a new layer. Okay. I always said there's Like did you did you see them in person?
I haven't. Man, it was like palpable the sexual tension with them on stage. And they're not they weren't a couple, but like watching them on And I always I always said, "Uh, is this a family podcast?" Uh, I always said their their songs were like a big Os. Like Yeah. that's what they feel like every time.
It just build build build. And it's over. What what what is the What does that represent? That's Let's explain that offline. If you watch Hemko does duets, you'll find out.
And after 3 minutes it's over. I mean, it's perfect. It's yeah. But yeah, I think the interplay between their voices I think is just especially on the chorus. tight harmonies.
Oh my gosh. birthed like they birthed They were the forerunners to launching Lumineers and of Head and Heart and Monsters and Men. Like they they kind of set the stage for them all to kind of come in in the vacuum I I can see that. ending because they they were doing they were they all did the same thing, but they kind of paved the way. I say the O Brother, Where Art Thou?
soundtrack started that whole thing, but I think they were probably like the male duo like male female duet that kind of made that Sure. you know, interesting again. Well, Joy Williams is much easier to look at than some of the others of O Brother, Where Art Thou? I mean, George is okay, but then the supporting cast really isn't. I thought you were going to say Barton Hollow.
Oh, no. I just think there's something about that Poison & Wine song that uh I always loved. Um I think I was listening to it at a very dark period. Yeah. Um so What's the guy's name?
John Paul Peter? John John Michael Paul? John Paul John Mark McMillan? of the disciples. So, yeah, it's He's got a heavy on disciples.
Uh okay, so your Poison Give us one of yours. Uh Sweet Symphony. Um I'm going to get the name wrong. Joy Oladokun and Chris Stapleton. Ooh, yeah, I was listening to that on the way in.
That is outstanding. It's good, yeah. Oh man, that's good. I like her. I've never heard of this Chris guy.
He's He's kind of new. He's just kind of running up the runs or the the ranks there, you know. Uh Sweet Sweet Symphony? Yeah. Okay.
All right, Tyler, back to you. Okay. This is a little different, but Unforgettable by Natalie and her dad Nat King Cole. Interesting. This is interesting because that song was from like 1951, and then she went and they took her dad's vocals and she did a duet with it, and it was, let's see, record and song of the year in '92.
Okay. Have I heard this song? Unforgettable It's like uh If I have, I've totally forgotten It's the one of the top five songs in the American songbook. But not this version, just the the original. I've forgotten about it.
Yeah. It's Unforgettable, Josh. No, I've definitely heard of it cuz I remember the music video. Yeah, black and white. Yeah, a movie of him behind her playing and singing.
Yeah, okay. All right, Chris, what do you got? Uh California Love by Tupac and Dr. Dre. Mhm.
All right. Yeah, man, I guess that's a that fulfills all the duet criteria. Yeah. Yeah, I can't I can't argue that. I don't necessarily like the song, but I can't argue it.
I like that uh he threw the he threw Elliot Ness in there. Yeah, that's a good historical reference. Good for him. Yeah. Yeah, he's a learned person.
He knows. Yeah, he gets it. All right, I'm going to go with I was torn because there were two that popped out to me. Uh I'm going to save the one for honorable mention. I'm going to go with Falling Slowly since we just lost Glen Hansard.
good one. And Marketa Nevertina Nevertina Irglova. Yep, her. Yep. Yep.
Yeah, so serves it up there. Glen plays the guitar, she plays the tennis racket. That's right. Yeah, that's Uh yeah, if you haven't heard Falling Slowly Yeah, that's or seen the movie Once. Or seen the movie Once.
this Everybody should see that movie. Every musician at least once. Uh Falling Slowly is a great example of a harmony. I was saying harmony, so yeah. If you listen to the piano and even the guitar part, it mimics or I don't know which came first.
Chicken. The chicken. This the heart or the melody the vocal melody follows that. Don don don don don It's just beautiful. Really really beautiful song.
Yeah. And it's another one of those kind of like Iron & Wine that sort of Christian does, too. So, I'm going to throw that out there. My second is the same one but with Eddie Vedder, Falling Slowly with Glen and Eddie doing it live, which you can't find on Spotify, which is why I couldn't add it. Okay.
I haven't heard that one. We can So, I've been I've been following uh kind of some of Eddie's solo tour stuff and some of the collaborations and concerts and tours that he's shown up to and inviting people into and uh just really enjoying his stuff. So, but it is what it is. Pearl Jam was here, I guess 2 years ago now, uh Swell Season, which is Glen's band, opened up. Yeah.
Yeah. And I wish I could have changed mine. You love to do that. You know what? You know what?
I'm going to do this. Since you had Falling Slowly, I'm going to go to the one that I was going to use for honorable mention, which is Don't Mind If I Do, which is a newer one by Riley Green and Elle King. Which is very clever cleverly written lyrics but a nice combination of voices and the sort of kind of conversational between the two of them. Okay. So, we're going to go with that.
All right, so let's run through it. We've got um Can I give an honorable mention? Yeah, let's give some honorable mentions. I just thought about this when you said Eddie Vedder. Could Would Hunger Strike qualify as a duet?
I think so. Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder both singing like almost the whole time and some do verses. I think we do. Yeah, that's a good one. That's a great one.
Temple of the Dog. Okay. All right, so our top eight Oh, another honorable mention I want to give was um Pink and Nate Ruess Ruess. Nate Ruess. from Fun.
Give me your What is that? Give me a Give me a reason. Just Give Me a Reason. Yeah. I I had that on there.
That was like fourth or fifth. Like That's a good one. Yeah. That's another one of those that feels like a conversation. It's It's so great cuz it's it I mean anybody who's been in a relationship is like, "Uh here's my perspective." And like, "Hmm." I always tell my I always I always tell my wife of that song like that's the that's his entire voice in that song is "Get on your meds, hon." Like It's not a problem.
That's not a stigma or anything. It's just like she's coming out with this whole like dark attitude and like, "You're You're created this narrative, right?" I'm like, "Don't have Don't have an argument with me if I'm not there to be my own voice." Like if you create an argument with me in your head, Mhm. that's not fair to me. So, like and we do it all the time, right? So, but that's exactly what she does, right?
She has this scenario that she's created in his head and then he kind of comes in and is like, uh yeah, no, that I was I was just I was just sleeping over here. Yeah. Yeah. Uh okay, so our top eight, we got to get down to five. We've got Someone help me out.
Under Pressure. Under Pressure, Sleep Dirt, Sweet Symphony, Sweet Symphony, What did I say? Iron Poison and Wine. Poison and Wine. Poison and Wine.
Then we've got uh Unforgettable, California Love, Don't Mind If I Do, and Falling Slowly. So, we've got to Let's start with the ones that are obvious keepers. Um for me, Sweet Symphony is an obvious keeper. I mean, you have to put the guest both of the guest songs in the right That's rude, right? It's No, okay.
The only thing for sure is we don't pick Chris's. That's the only thing we know going into this. Just eliminate mine right at the beginning. Sleep Dirt, I can tell you is gone. Yeah, gone.
Sleep Dirt. At the risk of once again offending Moondust and Dweezil, I'm going to get rid of Sleep We need is more litigation from the Zappas. Maybe you can send him a guitar strap and really appease him. I say Under Pressure's got to be on there. Yeah.
Yeah. I don't know. Yes? Yeah. A thousand percent.
of the first ones you think of when you think of duets. I At least the what I mean It never crossed my mind. Well, you know, do better do better be better. I'm willing to let Unforgettable go, but not Under Pressure. Okay.
I I I I like Unforgettable. I'd like to circle back to it. We've got two keepers. Um I think Falling Slowly is timely. It's a nice time to honor that song.
Yeah, let's get it in there. Yeah. Falling Slowly. Either version. Either, yeah.
Just a beautiful song. If you can't find the Eddie Vedder Eddie Vedder version on Spotify, but go look it up. It's on the YouTubes. Yeah. Okay, we got two more.
I don't know I don't know this Don't Mind If I Do. So, I can't say. I mind if you do. Okay, that's fair. I I think California Love.
Yeah. Yeah. We'll share some love to Yeah, it represents a different genre. Yeah. And type of duet.
I mean yeah. Okay. Um 1 2 3 4 3 I need one more. Unforgettable. What was your second one?
Just Give Me a Reason. My My two were Sweet Symphony and the Falling Slowly. You gave me the Falling Slowly. I I had Love the Way You Lie, but we weren't sure if So, right now we have Under Pressure, Mhm. Sweet Symphony, Yes.
California Love, Falling Slowly. Yeah. Well, I I mean, to me it's either Unforgettable or Don't Mind If I Do. And I don't mind if you do Unforgettable. Cuz nobody's going to remember this top five anyway.
And I don't mind Unforgettable and then honorable mention. Honorable mention is uh All right. Don't mind Unforgettable. There it is. Ladies and gentlemen, let's go over your top five Ham Co Live does duets.
We've got Sweet Symphony by Joy William No, Joy Oak Oakaduken. Oakland Oak. Oakwaduken and Chris Stapleton. We've got Under Pressure featuring David Bowie and Freddie Mercury. We've got Falling Slowly, which is Glen Hansard, the late Glen Hansard and either our Marketa something or other or Eddie Vedder depending on which one you listen to.

Yeah. Hey, so let the insurance people know that. going to say the insurance people would be really excited about that. They were a little nervous when they saw uh welding on the Is there a career in that? Virtual welding?
I'm virtually welding here. Uh this isn't fixed. Well, I virtually welded it. Virtually fixed. Virtually fixed.
Uh but there's a flight simulator that they're going to bring out, too. So, yeah, there's some really, really cool things.
