In 2023 USA Today named the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival the "Fall Festival of the Year."
History & About- West Side Nut Club
In 1921 a small group of businessmen decided to come together to throw fall festivals to initiate, promote, and support any and all movements which are for the betterment of the West Side of Evansville. In its first year, the festival consisted of a one night Halloween Carnival and masquerade ball. The event drew 25,000 people!
This was considered a huge success and the club continued the annual festival with one-night or two-night events until after World War II. 1940 was a first for the festival, as they brought in three rides: a ferris wheel, merry-go-round, and mini autos. They also brought in circus acts, concessions, and caged animals, all in an attempt to continue to grow this festival to better the West Side. The festival was seen outwardly as a success, but the club did not actually make a profit on the event until 1947 on its Silver Anniversary.
What started as a small promotional event has now grown to a week-long festival with free entertainment, 137 non-profit food vendors, a talent competition, and a parade on the last day. This festival brings 200,000 to the West Side of Evansville and in 2023 was named Fall Festival of the Year by USA Today!
